THE WIMBLEDON EXPERIENCE The Championships at Wimbledon has been known as the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world since its inception in 1877. The sport’s biggest names have all had career defining moments on the lush grass of the All-England Club. By Joey Hanf Part of the lore that Wimbledon has created is built upon the tradition and exclusivity the private club has created. Of course, players wear all-white. “A single trim of colour around the neckline and around the cuff of the sleeves is acceptable but must be no wider than one centimetre (10mm),” the policy reads. In 2013, 8 time champion Roger Federer wore shoes that contained a bit too much orange coloring on the out-sole, and he was forced to change them for his next match. The rules at Wimbledon truly apply to everyone. Fans that aim to cross Wimbledon off their bucket list face arguably a larger challenge. Non-UK citizens can enter their name into a ticket ballot, but have a slim chance of actually securing tickets to the days and courts that they hope for. Option two involves the infamous Queue. Thousands of spectators camp out in line just for the chance of securing access to the grounds, with most leaving it up to good fortune. However, Cliff Drysdale Tennis was pleased to offer in 2019 an exclusive opportunity to purchase tickets,
luxury accommodations and hospitality for it’s VIP guests. A number of CDT and Troon clients took advantage of the special offer, and were blown away by the sheer excellence that is Wimbledon. “Wimbledon was on our bucket list,” said Lori Vaudry, who attended the first week of the Championships. “We had dreamed about getting there. I had never been to London. The entire experience was out of this world. The architecture, the gardens, the food, the people and the culture; it’s all so wonderful. And when you get to Wimbledon itself - it just exudes British hospitality and tradition.” There are not many places you can visit each year that hold sports history quite like Wimbledon. Many compare the exceptional atmosphere of Augusta National and the Masters to be one of the only equivalents. Watching a match from center court, you can’t help but see visions of McEnroe, Borg, Navratilona, Williams, Federer and the other countless legends that
