Escape-ism
F Dandy insolent et contestataire, figure de la scène punk rock de Washington depuis trois décennies, Ian Svenonius a toujours imposé sa critique des groupes de rock n’ roll traditionnels et ses pensées de l’anti-autoritarisme dans ses projets (The Make-Up, Chain and the Gang, Nation of Ulysses…) avec un charme scintillant et profond. Escape-ism est son dernier projet en date, débuté en solo et désormais poursuivi en duo avec la réalisatrice et musicienne Alexandra Cabral. Escape-ism est l’incantateur d’un postpunk minimaliste, fortement évocateur des spectres de Suicide ou d’un indolent Jonathan Richman.

E A cheeky, anti-establishment dandy who has been a figure of the Washington punk rock scene for three decades, Ian Svenonius has imposed his critique of traditional rock n’ roll bands and his anti-authoritarianism in various projects (The Make-Up, Chain and the Gang, Nation of Ulysses...) with deep and scintillating charm. Started as a solo project and now pursued as a duo with film director and musician Alexandra Cabral, Escape-ism is his latest endeavour. It casts the spell of minimalist postpunk, strongly evoking spectres of Suicide or an indolent Jonathan Richman. Ian Svenonius and Alexandra Cabral will also present their film The Lost Record, selected in the feature film competition (p. 22)
