Coronation of King Charles is a big thing. Or is it?

The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles 111 and Queen Camila will take place on Saturday 6th May, 2023 at Westminster Abbey, London and already

The Official guest list will see some 2300 people .inside Westminster Abbey to witness the event. The former Prince Charles became heir apparent, next in line to the throne at the age of three years old in 1952 and has been preparing for this moment ever since. He undertook his first official Royal duty in June 1965, attending a student garden party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

To ensure that they get the best view of the passing procession, people have been camping out for days in cool and damp weather.

The Coronation will be followed

by a Coronation Procession involving other members of the royal family back to Buckingham Palace where the party will begin. With all the pomp, people may forget that the Coronation is a deeply religious service. It will be presided over by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, and it emphasises the spiritual role that both the King and Queen play. Organisers believe that this will be the biggest procession since the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth in1953.

It has been estimated that the the Monarch’s Coronation could cost as much as $187 million Aussie, paid for out of the public purse. This amount is expected to be offset by the amount of money injected directly by increased tourism brought about by the King and

Coronation.

Heart Health Awareness Week is here!

Heart Week is Australia's national heart health awareness week held in the first week of May each year. It provides an opportunity for the Australian public to reassess their heart health.

High blood pressure is a leading risk factor for heart disease. The only way to find out if you have high blood pressure is to have it checked regularly, even if you’re feeling well and healthy. Everyone aged 18 and over should have their blood pressure measured at least once every two years

the Heart Foundation is encouraging Australians to do three simple things to look after their heart – check their blood pressure, use the Heart Age Calculator to understand their risk of heart disease, and book a Heart Health Check with their GP. To find out more simply visit:

https://campaign.heartfoundation.org.au/heart-week

Even in Maleny there are links to Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of the UK’s sovereigns since 1837 and today is the administrative headquarters of the Monarch.

Around 1940 home furniture had a distinct style that was popular at the time.

It might be only a small bit of trivia, but it could help out at a trivia night quiz at some time, but it might be more than half way around the world from Maleny Queensland, but there are Maleny residents who have links with the palace.

Of recent times it has been revealed that one of the Queen’s Grooms for over 25 years now lives in Maleny whilst another other resident was on the palaces security staff whilst another resident met the now King Charles 111 and Princess Diana at The Big Pineapple in Nambour in 1983.

Who said that nothing important comes out of Maleny?.

Once this coronation thing has passed so has the importance of the above bit of trivia.

Maleny Maple Street upgrade delayed

The upgrade to the Maple Street, Maleny design project has been delayed and now is being pushed back to mid 2024.

The Maple Street enhancement project had been planned to commence this year, but is now expected to commence in July or August 2024. A number of reasons including continually rising costs have contributed to the Maleny streetscape project being pushed back to mid next year.

With not set to commence for at least another 12 months, Division 5 Councillor Winston Johnston. Cr. Johnston said although the original budgeted amount of $2.75 million had been increased to $3.5 million, the project would most likely require more additional funds

POLITICAL COMMENT MADE BY Police Minister Mark Ryan

“The government‘s youth justice laws were “considered and measured”

(Afer Moreton Bay mother

Emma Lovell was murdered by 2 teens.)

He continued to say; “In my opinion, with construction costs rising, to achieve what the community wants, I’d say we’ll need between $6-7.5 million.”

The additional time required to have the project started and completed gave an opportunity for Council to secure extra funding to match the projected job.

A coat of paint can change the look of a room!

Re-painting a room is a good quick way to give it a freshen up and even change the look and atmosphere without it costing the earth. It will even add value to your home, especially if you are selling. A good paint job is not difficult or messy to get if you follow a few basic rules and don’t try to cut corners.

Preparation is the key to a good paint job, so make sure the walls are clean, flaky paint is removed and trim is sanded before you even get out the paintbrushes and rollers.

It is important to prepare the walls and protect surfaces to minimise mess and get a perfect finish.

Some Handy Hints

The best way to clean walls ready for painting is to use sugar soap. Brush walls to remove surface dirt.

Dissolve half a cup of sugar soap in 5L of water and apply with a sponge or cloth, then rinse off using a clean damp sponge.

Decorative detailing, such as trim and mouldings, needs to be carefully sanded to get the best result.

The most effective way is to use a sanding sponge. Sponges conform to the shape of the timber work and can get into crevices that sandpaper can’t. They also apply even pressure and make it easy to cut down rough spots.

Before applying new paint, flaky paint needs to be removed or the new coat won’t adhere and will eventually flake off as well.

Protect floors with cardboard or plastic drop sheets which are inexpensive, or both.

Hold the brush handle between your thumb and forefinger, resting your fingertips on the top. Dip half the bristles in the paint, then wipe on the side

of the tin to remove the excess. Apply in short strokes.

Do the ceiling first, as rollers can create splatter that could ruin a freshly painted wall.

Finish the room by painting the walls, cutting in with a brush and covering the rest with a roller.

The best way to get an even finish is by keeping a wet edge as you work across the wall.

Cut in with a brush, then start painting at the top corner using a roller.

Work in 1sq m sections, painting a large M, then rolling across the area, finishing in one direction.

Immediately start painting the next section of wall, using light pressure to overlap the strokes with the wet edge. Don’t paint if it’s very hot, cold or humid, as it can affect the finish.

Disposable gloves not only keep your hands clean when painting, but they can also be used to prevent your brush from drying out when taking breaks. It minimises clean-up, too. Use a twist tie around the handle to keep air out.

Licenced Roadworthy Inspector on the premises

Queensland Government considering new speeding rules

The state government is exploring the introduction of immediate licence suspensions for drivers caught travelling more than 40km/h over the limit, which is considered high-range.

More than 3600 fines were given to drivers last year who were recklessly speeding more than 40km/h over the limit and this included 18 who were caught by speed checks in school zones. State government figures show that 299 people died on Queensland roads last year – the most number of fatalities since 2009.

According to the data from Transport and Main Roads Department, the most number of times an individual driver was caught speeding in 2021 was 51 times.

Maleny -Witta - Conondale Flexilink Service

Conondale, Maleny and Witta residents are being asked for their thoughts on how Sunshine Coast Council can improve the Conondale to Maleny Flexilink service, that was introduced in 2010.

Flexilink services are prebooked scheduled transport services that operate in areas with limited public transport..

Council is considering one additional Monday to Friday service between Conondale and Maleny and is also seeking feedback on the Saturday timetable. The Flexilink community engagement will provide insight into how Council can improve the current service operation. Ultimately we are trying to ascertain what times residents actually want to arrive in Maleny and leave Maleny. Surveys can be completed until 5pm Sunday, May 21, 2023via:

It was on 25 April 1915 that the armies of Australia and New Zealand entered into their premier battle of the First World War, at Gallipoli, Turkey. the Anzacs faced off with one of the fiercest armies history has ever known. The events of 25 April, 1915, and the subsequent campaign have been cemented in the identity of Australia and New Zealand. Each year on April 25th the people of Australia honour and remember the fallen.

In Maleny a parade marched and drove down Maple Street to The Cenotaph at the Maleny RSL Hall where a Remembrance Ceremony was held with hundreds of people remembering the fallen.

Today, the anniversary of the landing is also a chance to commemorate all other Australians who died, not only in that horrible war, but the others that followed.

An Old Codger’s Thoughts & Opinions

Australia is currently debating whether to establish an Indigenous Voice to Parliament, a proposal that has been put forth to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the decision-making processes of the country. Establishing an Indigenous Voice to Parliament in Australia has both its pros and cons. On one hand, establishing an Indigenous Voice to Parliament would bolster the representation of First Peoples in the Australian political system and on the other hand it has the ability to divide the peoples of Australia. All Australians, irrespective of their past or gender should be equally represented by Australia’s Governments and equally treated and be equally recognised by the Constitution of Australia.

Creating an Indigenous Voice to Parliament would also facilitate indigenous-led policymaking and eliminate potential mistrust that may arise as a consequence of ineffective education policies and other initiatives.

The Voice has the potential to simply add another unnecessary layer of bureaucracy and expenses to an already complicated political system. What is the intention in respect to keeping or closing the many other government bodies or semi-government bodies that already exist to speak on behalf of the First Nations People? Why is The Voice needed if the already existing bodies that are financially supported by the various levels of government were doing their jobs efficiently and effectively. Perhaps if the voice goes ahead then the many other bodies allegedly already speaking on behalf of First Nations people. Surely, those bodies already partner with Indigenous communities across the country, to make better policies about those communities and transmit those ideas .

Many people who oppose the proposal worry that indigenous advocacy may clash with the interests of all Australians and undermine national unity.

Everyone should have equal rights and recognition and life expectations.

Truthful

says

Truthful said that when he lived in Italy before coming to Australia he lived next to an elderly Italian man named Romaro and Romaro told Truthful this story.

One day he went to the local catholic church for confession.

When the priest slid open the panel in the confessional, Romaro said, “Father, during World War! II, a beautiful woman knocked on my door and asked me to hide her from the enemy. So I hid her in my attic.”

The priest replied, “That was a wonderful thing you did, my son! And you have no need to confess that.”

“It’s worse than that, Father. She started to repay me with sexual favours.”

The priest said, “By doing that, you were both in great danger. However, two people under those circumstances can be very tempted to act that way. But if you are truly sorry for your actions, you are indeed forgiven.”

“Thank you, Father. That’s a great load off my mind. But I do have one more question.”

“And what is that?” asked the priest.

“Should I tell her the war is over?”

Morale: It is always important to listen to the whole story before you make up your mind about what you may think the situation really is. It is difficult to make decisions based on only half of the story.

The Maleny Wood Expo was established in 1996 by Barung Landcare and after a couple of years off as a result of the covid virus the Expo returned to the Maleny Show-grounds bringing large crowds with it.

The Maleny Wood Expo is regarded as one of the finest Wood Expos in Australia.

The Maleny Wood Expo in 2023 had an epic lineup of speakers covering a range of topics from rainforest conservation and cultural perspectives, to soil health, and creating native backyard habitat for wildlife which included the morning guided platypus spotting walks.

The activities for the kids, included workshops making cheese boards, planter boxes, puzzles and more, perfect presents for mum on mother’s day were very popular. Classes were conducted by the Blackall Range Woodies. The daily program included talks by members of the local Live entertainment and street performances added to the main main aim of viewing beautiful craft, art and fine furniture.

Aboriginal community about their traditional use of timbers and plants in their traditional lifestyles. All wood craftspeople are required to work in sustainable harvested native timbers or recycled timbers.

This was the place to fall in LOVE with wood and with making and start the journey to find a new art and learn to CREATE your own projects in wood.

Members of the Wooden Boat Association of Queensland also had a large display of wooden boats on display. This organisation is an association of enthusiasts with a shared passion for wooden boats, many self built with passion. Not only that there was still some time to grab a fast feed between activities.

Selling or buying a property!

Assignment of Lease - Key Issues Part 2

With Trove Easton of Easton Lawyers, Maleny

Often when a business is sold the business owner does not own the property from which the business operates, in these circumstances an assignment of lease is required.

This refers to the transfer of a lease agreement from the current tenant (the assignor) to the new tenant (the assignee). This allows the assignee to take over the remaining lease term and to assume all of the rights and obligations of the original tenant under the lease.

We now follow on from our previous article covering the basic steps involved in this complex process.

3. Execute assignment

The assignor and assignee will need to sign the deed of assignment in the presence of appropriate witnesses, and the landlord may also need to sign the assignment to indicate their consent.

4. Register assignment

Once the assignment has been signed, it will need to be registered with the Titles Queensland. This registration provides notice to any third parties, such as mortgagees or

other creditors, that the lease has been assigned.

It is important to note that there may be additional legal requirements or considerations depending on the specific circumstances of the assignment. For example, if the lease is for retail premises, the Retail Shop Leases Act 1994 may impose additional obligations on the parties. It is recommended that parties seek legal advice to ensure that all legal requirements are met, and that the assignment is completed properly.

Australian-made On-grid and off-grid energy storage systems

Solar power has several benefits. First and foremost, solar energy is a renewable energy source that is capable of producing heat, generating electricity, and causing chemical reactions. Below are some additional benefits of switching to solar electricity:

• Cost savings: Financial returns and lower monthly utility bills are major incentives for going solar. The exact savings you will see with solar depends on the following factors: electricity consumption, solar energy system size, whether you purchase or lease your system.

• Energy savings: Solar energy can provide homeowners with significant energy savings. By using energy generated from solar, homeowners can reduce their dependence on the grid and lower their energy bills.

• Environmental benefits: Solar energy is a clean and renewable source of energy that produces no greenhouse gas emissions, air

pollution, or water pollution. By going solar, homeowners can reduce their carbon footprint and help to protect the environment.

• Increased home value: Installing solar panels on a home can increase its value. According to research, homes with solar panels installed have higher resale values than homes without solar panels.

• Long performance warranties: Solar panels typically come with long performance warranties, ensuring that homeowners can enjoy the benefits of solar energy for many years to come.

At this time, it is estimated that residential customers on standard retail plans could face price increases from July 1st, 2023 of around 19.5% to 23.7% depending on their region and whether they have controlled load. Small business customers could face price increases of around 14.7% to 25.4% depending on their region.

This makes installing a solar system financially a more beneficial decision.

Investing in solar panels and energy storage systems can present a significant upfront cost, so it’s prudent to establish a long-term view on how your system can work for you in years to come.

More donations for the R.F.D.S

God I love small country towns they’re always friendly and welcoming and are so thankful for the Mantle of Safety that’s always there for them “aka The Royal Flying Doctor Service”

Back in my happy place in Slims Cab, in the last 3hrs I’ve had $320 in donations from servos and people pulling me over to make a donation. Was heading down from a mates beach camp down south of Dongara to Badgingarra, I was taking the Indian Ocean road which I have to say had it’s fair share of lunatics on wheels but as I approached my turn off towards “Badgy” I saw another turn off, just before it ,to a township called Green Head. It may have been a bit of a detour, but I was due and oil check and I always love dropping into theses small country towns. Also, I remembered that from a few months back someone wanted me to call into Badgingarra so I made the turn off and went to check it out.

The main road into the township had these rows of beautiful trees that would have to be over 75 years old for the full 3 or so kilometres on either side heading into town creating an arch of branches well overhead.

I pulled into the general store which was also a servo and was greeted by some happy locals, including a lovely bird called Bev. It was she who had messaged me previously and asked to stop in their small town on my travels and so here I was.

Be a real “Mate”

Make sure that you look after your mates - Treat them all well!.

There are no places for bullies or abusers in this life.

I was invited into the general store and offered a cuppa before one of the ladies asked if she could mention on her Facebook community page that I was shaking my tins at the general store. I said no worries and within a few minutes it seemed like half the town was there making donations, there were stories about what the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia had done for their community over the years.

All in all they probably donated around $200 in notes and coins including Bev who Chipped in a $100 note. She also gave me a big hug.

It’s always nice to be reminded of these small country towns that often have the biggest community spirit out there.

They’re getting harder to find as the older generation passes and the younger generations leave to find work around the cities, but a few still hang in there, the general store owner in this case (who also chipped in a decent donation) was also baking bread for the “village” as he called it. Remember that Dolly would have now turned 20 as her birthday was just a couple of days ago. If you or anyone you know needs help, please call our support line which is free and available 24/7 on 0488 881 033.
