RELAX, GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO BE YOU! LOVE WHO YOU WANT TO LOVE, LIVE HOW YOU WANT TO LIVE TO FIND YOUR HAPPINESS Mumpreneur Movement Magazine: Who is Lindie Gunston? Lindie: I am a psychic, medium and teacher, born and raised in South Africa but now living in Australia. I’ve lived on four different continents and have just turned 45. Now more than ever I feel truly connected, inspired and at ease with myself and my place in the world. Growing up in South Africa was a very 14

conservative experience, especially as my father was a minister, and we lived by the word of God. I grew up very fearful as I also experienced physical and emotional abuse at the hands of my father, and I was also sexually abused by two trusted family friends. At the age of 16 I moved out of home and gained my independence, I had enough of that shit! I finished school, and

then left South Africa to travel the world. Looking back I realised I have always been attracted to women, however due to the conditioning of society, I went down the route of having a husband and kids. It wasn’t until I realised how desperately unhappy I was, that I began to feel into the truth of who I really was. I have always been open minded and accepting of others, however perhaps not so open minded with myself! My coming out was gentle and gradual. I never made a massive announcement, it was what it was! I realise that I have been very fortunate in not experiencing a huge amount of discrimination because of my sexual orientation. I find that if I am open about who I am, it gives others permission to do the same. I love to walk in my truth and be as authentically me as I possibly can, I know that this inspires other to do the same, and why wouldn’t I want to inspire people to be the best versions of themselves? For too long society has pushed their expectations onto us, and the older I get, the more I realise is that we need to break through these expectations, because the only purpose these expectations have, is to keep us in a box! I don’t want to live in a box! Mumpreneur Movement Magazine: What has your journey been like as a Lesbian Mum in business? Lindie: I have had a very positive experience as a lesbian mum in business. I’m pretty open with my clients about who I am, if it comes up. I speak openly about my journey, and I definitely do attract LGBTQI clientele because of my openness. I’m also well connected to the LGBTQI network here in Geelong and within Victoria, so word of mouth travels this way. LGBTQI people want to know that they feel safe when having a reading, so it helps for them to come to me through referral. Mumpreneur Movement Magazine: What have been some of your challenges when it comes to society’s expectations and rules? Lindie: The challenges have actually been more internal than societies expectations and rules, although that certainly does play
