Principles For Business
By Danielle Gardner WE CAN LEARN A LOT ABOUT CREATING A BUSINESS THAT NOURISHES OUR HEART AND SOUL BY STUDYING PERMACULTURE.
I
f you’ve not come across the term permaculture, it’s essentially about looking at what already exists in your ecosystem, strengthening what’s working, avoiding waste, doing no harm and caring for people and the planet. There are 12 Permaculture Principles, and what I’d like to focus on in this article is the first one, ‘Observe and Interact’. When we take the time to properly observe our environment we are able to notice what’s already there and working. We get to see what we’ve been overlooking.

For example, I love using my Squarespace Analytics App to see an overview of what activity is happening on my website. When I first started using this App a few years ago I noticed that one particular blog, one that I’d written months ago, was receiving a steady increase of views.
I continued monitoring this on a weekly basis for a few months while I simultaneously pondered what I could do to interact with these people who were finding me organically. Then a simple idea landed! I would create a class based around the theme of the blog which was called Building your business as a Human Design Generator. I’d written that blog to share my experience on following my Human Design strategy, and how that had turned the tide in my business. Next, I organised my knowledge on this topic and offered the class to my existing networks. After the class, I added to the blog a link where visitors could purchase the recording. Within a month or so people started purchasing that training with no promotion from me and no ads campaigns. It was all happening as a result of organic Google traffic. I’ve since upgraded that training to a short concise course and it generates on average $1300 per month—again without me doing much at all. When I first wrote this blog about 90% of my clients were coming as a result of my activity in Facebook Groups and on LinkedIn. Now 80% of my clients discover me through that blog, and the other 20% by word of mouth.
