AHS PRINCIPAL UPDATE

MR. JOHN KING The 2021-2022 school year will come to a

close in just a few short days.

It seems like just yesterday we were having freshman orientation and beginning the fall semester. Now, we are at the end of another school year and looking forward to a welcomed summer break. I know that everyone on our campus was elated that this year was much more of a “normal” year than the past two. For my last posting for this school year, I want to take a moment and personally thank several groups of people for helping make the 20212022 school year a great one. First of all, I want to thank the teachers and staff of Argyle High School. Every year, you go above and beyond to provide our students with the best learning experience possible, and this year was no different. I cannot begin to express my full gratitude for your diligent work and continuous support of our students. I know I speak for the entire community of Argyle when I say thank you for being so amazing.

Next, I would like to thank the Senior Class of 2022. This year continued to have its challenges, but you accepted every obstacle brought your way and continued to excel in the classroom, on the playing fields/courts, and in all of your fine arts endeavors. You not only continued the tradition of excellence that we have come to expect in Argyle, but you did it with character and class. I am so proud of each of you, and I know that you will take the experiences you have had this year and use them to conquer your future hopes and dreams. Finally, I would like to thank the parents of our high school students. Your constant support of our teachers and school administration has helped us reach the finish line of the 2021-2022 school year. We appreciate you letting us work with your child this year, and we look forward to the opportunity of working with next year’s returning students and incoming freshmen. I certainly hope that everyone has a very

Argyle West Counselors Receive Distinguished Honor Two Argyle West Elementary counselors have earned prestigious state recognition. Marjorie Edge and Heather Kennedy were recently honored by the Texas School Counselor Associations as West Elementary received the CREST award for 2021-2022. The award is given to an elite group of schools from across the state for excellence in counseling.

CREST winners were recognized at a dinner during the TSCA’s Professional School Counselor Conference in Round Rock in February. Edge and Kennedy received a banner to display this honor. The Argyle ISD School Board also honored the West counselors at the regular meeting in February. Edge and Kennedy worked on this project for

Argyle West

Elementary Principal

This year has flown by!

I think I jinxed us at the end of last year when I stated that we were hoping that the third year’s the charm to having a normal year at AWE. COVID reared its ugly head once again and made school a bit challenging. One constant that has remained the same is the unwavering dedication and passion of our teachers and staff members. They have shown grace and resiliency through some difficult times. We have risen above as Argyle Eagles and come together as a community for the sake of our students. Parents, staff, and students have exhibited positive attitudes and appreciation for each other. Our students have learned to adapt to adversity and develop a growth mindset to overcome any challenge that is presented to them. The following quote by Michael Josephson summed up our year, “ Take pride in how far you’ve come. Have faith in how far you can go. But don’t forget to enjoy the journey.” I would like to take this opportunity to thank our terrific PTA and executive board. Stephanie Crawford, PTA President, has provided excellent leadership and support to the PTA committees, the school staff and administration, and most importantly to the students at AWE. Thank you to all the parents on the PTA and the various committees for your endless contributions and for dedicating a great deal of time to provide resources to our school. We feel very spoiled and blessed that you take such good care of us. We are very thankful for your generous support and we

wonderful students and parents. We are also losing a few of our fabulous teachers. We are sad to see you go, but know this is what you have looked forward to since moving to the communities you reside in, to have your own neighborhood school. We wish you all the best of luck and please don’t hesitate to come visit and contact me if you have any questions. You will be in good hands with Principal Dr. Jordan and her amazing team. We have already started the planning and preparation process for the 2022-2023 school year. We will welcome the return of 5th grade being back on campus and those teachers returning. We are seeing rapid growth and expect to welcome several

new families to our community over the summer. One of the planning areas is to ensure our staffing exemplifies the very best of educators who demonstrate a passion for teaching and working with children. We are in the process of interviewing for positions we have open for next year and will welcome new staff to the traditions and culture of Argyle West. Please enjoy the change of pace that summer brings. Have a happy, relaxing, and safe summer with your children. We look forward to seeing everyone upon our return for the 2022-2023 school year. Please keep an eye on our website for information regarding summer hours and registration information. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Have a wonderful summer!!

A MESSAGE FROM AMS PRINCIPAL

Mr. Gibson As we wrap up the 2021-2022 school year

a few noteworthy things come to mind that center around change.

Our rapid growth, moving buildings, and working to bring things back to normal over the past two years are the biggest challenges for us to overcome. First of all, according to our enrollment demographic report Argyle Middle School was to have 1,023 students by snapshot day at the end of October. However, we started the year with over that number. Currently, we have 1,064 students with a few more scheduled to arrive before the end of school. An updated report for next year shows that we will have 1,080 students on snapshot day for 2022. It would be fairly safe to say that our school will reach 1,200 students at some point next year. This rapid rise in growth then creates numerous new teaching positions. Many new faces in the building bring change to all.

This past year also brought the change

of moving buildings. Anyone who has ever moved knows the stress involved in making that move. Our teachers and staff did a great job answering the challenge of leaving a brand new building and returning to our current location. The move was well coordinated and a special thanks needs to go out to our maintenance department who helped remove unwanted items as we worked to prepare for our first day of school. This move happened during a time when our society was working to get things back to

“normal.” I sometimes wonder exactly what normal is anymore. But even a move during difficult times can’t slow down what we work to accomplish with our students. It is so refreshing to see smiles on the faces of our students. As we prepare for the next school year I know we will take the lessons learned from this year with us and continue to persevere while working to make a difference in student lives.

Mrs. Kennedy hosted two book fairs this year, one during Literacy Night and one during our Spring Fest. Parents pitched in and helped at the book fair and that was very appreciated. Some other gatherings we had were quarterly awards ceremonies, a Veterans Day Assembly,

PTA had a huge part in the excitement on our campus this year. Fun events included Touch a Truck, the staff being slimed, (Mr. Ball will never forget that!), always treating our teachers, a holiday store, and then a very fun bounce house day in the spring. Argyle High School Teacher Honored What a special honor for Argyle High School's Kristi Thompson! She has been recognized as the Jim Durkel Paraprofessional/Worker of the Year. Ms. Thompson is a paraprofessional whose current assignment is that of assisting a second language learner with total blindness. Her compassion and dedication to her work gained the attention of those around the state and as a result of her professionalism, she has been awarded this honor. Ms. Thompson works directly with Agustin Sullivan, a Spanish-speaking, 16-year-old blind transfer student from Mexico. This student came to America with many obstacles to overcome regarding learning. He is an English as a second language learner and an emerging braille reader. He’s an auditory learner with minimal understanding of the English language and presents an overall cultural deficit due to the lack of access to education while in Mexico. She makes it her mission to be all-inclusive with this student and provides him the dignity he deserves while navigating the language barrier with his classroom teachers. She is always quick to jump into action and help the classroom teachers in assisting this student with his overall learning needs. Ms. Thompson is creative in presenting the materials to him in such a way that he understands. Congratulations Ms. Thompson on this well-deserved award!

ARGYLE ISD HIRES NEW VOLLEYBALL COACH The Argyle ISD School Board approved the hiring of Katelyn Johnson as the new Argyle Lady Eagle volleyball coach. Johnson served as a varsity assistant last year at Argyle and replaces Tayrn Hill, who has accepted a position as Assistant Athletic Coordinator/Volleyball Coach at Frisco Panther Creek High School. "We are excited for Coach Johnson to lead our Lady Eagle program into Class 5A," Argyle ISD Athletic Director Todd Rodgers said. "She demonstrated the leadership, volleyball experience, and relational skills to such a high degree as an assistant that our decision to promote her to head coach was a natural progression." Johnson helped lead the Lady Eagles to a Class 4A Region I final appearance last year in her first season on staff. She previously served as an assistant at Coppell High School from 2016 to 2021. Johnson, who played volleyball at Denton High School, also coached club volleyball with the Instinct Volleyball Club. He began playing when he was around 14 years old. He chose to play Overwatch because it had just recently been released and he found interest in learning how to play it and he loves problem-solving. At his best rank, he has been at the highest level of Grandmaster with an SR of 4150. When asked how long it took him to get to this rank he said it took about three years of work. He started playing in his free time after school and on the weekends but made sure he had balance in his life by being involved in other activities. After deciding to attend the University of Oklahoma Jefferson did some research on their Esports Program and was impressed with the Esports community, he knew immediately that he wanted to be a part of their team. When asked what he likes most about being on the team he said that it is definitely the community behind the team. “It is nice having a group of friends who all have the same interests and goals,” said Jefferson. He also said he hopes to encourage other students to work toward their goals and know that they can be a part of a collegiate gaming team as well. Jefferson said that his team usually scrimmages three to four times a week at about two hours per scrimmage but the amount can vary depending on if they have tournaments or competitions coming up. “One of my favorite memories that I will take away from this year will be the recent trip our team took to The University of Kentucky to compete, where we placed 5th overall.” There are six players on the OU Varsity Overwatch Team, but he said they are scouting for more players right now and have a few recruits so they hope to have a larger team next school year. “It is important to me to be a part of this team because I feel like I am helping to grow the program and I feel honored to be
