Hoy en día, el nuevo lujo va mucho más allá de adquirir artículos de consumo costosos. Este concepto está unido a una filosofía y a un estilo de vida que tiene mucho más que ver con lo atemporal, con aquello que no necesariamente cuesta dinero, y con experiencias únicas que se quedan en la memoria, y que podemos apreciar a través de conocer lugares mágicos, históricos o con un diseño arquitectónico que los hace especiales, sitios que se alejan de lo obvio y lo ordinario y que nos invitan a explorar más allá de lo usual, o simplemente sentarnos a disfrutar una puesta de sol acompañados de un vino orgánico.

Today, the concept of new luxury goes beyond purchasing expensive consumables. It is related to philosophy and lifestyle closer to the idea of timelessness and those things that do not necessarily cost money, experiences that stay in our memory, which we can appreciate through visiting magic or historical places, as well as sites with an architectural design that makes them special. It is about going to places out of the obvious and the ordinary and inviting us to explore beyond the usual or simply sitting with a bottle of organic wine to enjoy the sunset.

México es un país que lo tiene todo: litorales, selvas, bosques, ciudades coloniales y museos, pero por encima de todo, México es un país de grandes creadores. To make this work of art, artisans cut open 55-gallon drums, pound them flat, and then mark designs with chalk. Using a chisel, they cut through the metal to make designs. Among Haitian most original art forms is the cut metal work from Croix des Bouquets, a small village outside of Port-au-Prince.

MEXX EN SFER IK ¿Por qué no podemos vivir juntos? Why can’t we live together? El artista botánico Azuma Makoto, quien ha enviado árboles bonsái al espacio, plantado árboles en los polos y realizado instalaciones en sitios tan remotos como el desierto o las profundidades del mar, ahora está enfocado en crear conexiones culturales simbióticas al generar nuevos contextos en torno a cómo podemos convivir y florecer con la naturaleza.

Japanese Botanical artist Azuma Makoto, who has sent a bonsai into space, planted trees in the poles, and made installations in remote places as the deepest sea points and deserts, is now interested in creating visual and symbiotic cultural connections by generating new contexts on how we can live and thrive with biodiversity.

El concepto que Azuma Makoto quiere transmitir en su obra Mexx en SFER IK es la creación de límites borrosos entre múltiples capas de expresiones naturales y artificiales.

The concept of Azuma Makoto’s work Mexx in SFER IK is the creation of blurred boundaries between multiple layers of natural and artificial expressions.

SFER IK es un museo en medio de la jungla, una intervención arquitectónica hecha por el ser humano que crea un diálogo con el medio ambiente que lo rodea. Mexx es una instalación hecha por el ser humano que realiza una intervención a través de una estructura que contiene muestras de la biodiversidad que existe en México y conviven en un organismo más grande. De igual forma, es un intento de crear un encuentro biofílico entre especies y observar la simbiosis que sucede a medida que estas especies evolucionan.

SFER IK is a museum placed in the context of a jungle, a human-made architectural intervention that creates a dialogue with the existing environment. Mexx is a humanmade installation that intervenes in this structure bringing in biodiversity from all of México to live inside this larger organism. It is an attempt to create a biophilic encounter between species and watch the symbiosis happen as they evolve.

De todos los estados que conforman México, Oaxaca es uno de los más diversos. La tradición del bordado se remonta a épocas precolombinas, en las que se trabajaba con espinas de maguey o agave, y a través de los siglos ha ido evolucionando a una inmensa variedad de estilos y técnicas a mano o a máquina de pedal, en las que sus creadoras representan su historia, tradiciones, sueños y amor por su tierra.

Oaxaca is one of Mexico’s most diverse states. Its eight regions foster natural reserves of incredible beauty, wildlife, archeological sites, stately cities, charming magic towns, one of the most diverse culinary traditions, and of course, its extraordinary textile art. The tradition of embroidery traces back to preColumbian times when maguey thorns were used instead of needles. Mexican needlework has evolved into an immense variety of styles and hand and machine techniques, through which the artisans represent their history, traditions, dreams, and love for their land.

JALAPA DE DÍAZ Jalapa de Díaz se encuentra en la región del Papaloapan, donde los pueblos chinamecos y mazatecos conservan una arraigada tradición de elaboración de textiles en telar de cintura y bordados sobre algodón y rayón. El bordado tradicional de Jalapa de Díaz se realiza a mano en hilo de algodón sobre una base de tela de rayón, que por tradición se negro, aunque hoy en día se pueden encontrar en una gran variedad de colores, y sus diseños están basados en flores, aves y hojas de gran tamaño, que representan la iconografía y cosmogonía de estos pueblos. Jalapa de Díaz is located in Papaloapan, where the Chinameca and Mazateca people preserve a rooted tradition of textiles made in waist loom and needlework on cotton and rayon. The traditional embroidery from Jalapa de Díaz is handmade, using cotton thread on a piece of rayon, which is traditionally black, although we can find these works in a wide variety of colors. The traditional designs are based on flowers, birds, and oversized leaves, representing the iconography and cosmogony of these indigenous communities.

La comunidad de Santa María Alotepec se encuentra en la Sierra Norte de Oaxaca y está habitada por el pueblo mixe. El bordado tradicional de esta región se realiza sobre manta de algodón en máquina de pedal. Los artesanos mixes realizan camisas para caballero y blusas o huipiles para dama, cuyos bordados retratan las historias cotidianas de sus creadores, que nos cuentan su vida diaria a través de veredas, flores, caminos y espinas. The community of Santa María Alotepec is nestled in Oaxaca’s Sierra Norte and is inhabited by the Mixe people. The traditional embroidery of this region is machine-made on cotton. The Mixe artisans make shirts for men and blouses and huipiles for women, embroidered with designs that portray scenes of their creator’s daily life, telling us their everyday stories through footpaths, flowers, roads, and thorns.

SAN ANTONINO El municipio de San Antonino se encuentra en el Valle Central, muy cerca de la capital del estado, y es cuna de uno de las más celebradas de México. La técnica de bordado de San Antonino se realiza a mano con hilo de seda sobre manta de algodón que plasma mariposas, colibríes, rosas, jazmines, azucenas, que pueden ser multicolor o de un solo tono, el “házme si puedes”, una laboriosa técnica que bordado que representa niños y que requiere de gran maestría y destreza. The town of San Antonino is in Oaxaca’s Central Valley, very close to the state’s capital, and its needlework tradition is one of Mexico’s most celebrated. The needlework of San Antonino is made by hand with silk thread on cotton and portrays butterflies, hummingbirds, roses, jasmines, lilies, that can come in one or multiple colors, as well as the “do me if you can”, an intricate embroidering technique that represents images of children and requires great skill and mastery.

ISTMO DE TEHUANTEPEC Los bellísimos huipiles que se hicieron mundialmente famosos gracias a la legendaria pintora mexicana Frida Kahlo son una manifestación artística de la etnia zapoteca. En el huipil tehuano existen dos técnicas principales de bordado que pueden ir juntas o por separado. El bordado de cadenilla, con el que se forman figuras geométricas, flores y magueyes sobre algodón, lino o satín. Por tradición, los colores de este tipo de indumentaria son rojo, amarillo y negro, aunque hoy en día las artesanas realizan hermosos diseños en una gran variedad de colores para todos los gustos. Las flores tehuanas constituyen una de las creaciones más sublimes del bordado mexicano, en la que los diseños se bordan a mano sobre satín o terciopelo color negro vino, donde cada flor es única y bordar cada prenda puede tomar semanas o meses.

The extraordinarily beautiful huipiles that became world-famous thanks to the legendary Mexican painter Frida Kahlo are an artistic expression of the Zapotec people. There are two main techniques used in the huipil tehuano, which can be used together or separately. The string embroidery forms geometric figures, flowers, and magueys on cotton, linen, or satin. The traditional colors of this type of garment are red, yellow, and black; however, the new generations of artisans make gorgeous designs in a wide variety of colors for all tastes. The Tehuana flowers are one of the most sublime expressions of Mexican needlework, in which the designs are hand-embroidered on black or white satin or velvet. Every flower is unique and embroidering a single piece can take weeks and even months.

Juan Sordo Madaleno fundó la firma que lleva su nombre en 1937. Entre sus obras más reconocidas se cuentan la Iglesia de San Ignacio de Loyola, el Palacio de Justicia de la Ciudad de México, los famosos hoteles María Isabel Sheraton y Presidente Intercontinental, y las instalaciones de la cadena de tiendas departamentales El Palacio de Hierro. Hoy en día, la firma está liderada por los descendientes del legendario arquitecto, y cuenta con un equipo multidisciplinario que se encarga de diseñar y realizar muchos de los proyectos arquitectónicos más ambiciosos de México.

Central de Proyectos is a Mexican architectural firm established in Mérida, specialized in providing services and solutions, led by architects Ana Laura Puig and Eduardo Calvo. The philosophy of this architectural buffet revolves around the vision of architecture as a system that creates a relationship between people, surroundings, and conditions, where the creative process is the storyline that tells us how these relationships will work. The firm’s most famous project is the spectacular Chablé Yucatan Hotel, located in the town of Chocholá. Chablé Yucatan’s facilities belong to a historical hacienda. Its design merges the traditional architecture of old Yucatan sisal haciendas with contemporary design. In 2018, Chablé Yucatan was awarded the Prix Versailles as the world’s best hotel. The buffet has also received other important prizes, such as the Interceramic Award for Architecture and Interior Design, the Best HighEnd Architecture Studio, the AAI National Award by the Mexican Association of Architects and Interior Designers, and the 2nd Latin American Biennial of Landscape Architecture.

For instance, it takes at least six years from the moment the agave is sowed before a young tequila reaches your table. En fechas recientes, el pueblo de Cuatro Ciénegas se integró a la lista que lugares con la denominación de Pueblo Mágico por su arquitectura conformada por casonas del siglo XIX, la colorida plaza principal y el Callejón de Guevara, sembrado de cafeterías, tiendas de artesanías y donde podrás visitar las bodegas Vitali y Ferriño, donde podrás entrar en contacto con la cultura vinícola local.

Celestún is located just a little more than an hour and a half drive away from Mérida, and it is the perfect location for eco-tourism lovers. The main attraction of this natural paradise is the Ría Celestún Natural Reserve, which becomes all pink between December and February with the arrival of hundreds of thousands of flamingoes. You can hire a boat tour around the reserve and get to know the Island of the Birds, the Mangrove Tunnel, the water springs, and of course, you will have the privilege of sighting these beautiful pink birds. El propósito del Museo Subacuático de Arte va mucho más allá de ser un atractivo turístico más. Este proyecto surgió a partir de la necesidad de crear un espacio que liberara de la presión del turismo masivo y frenar el deterioro frágil sistema arrecifal que bordea la costa de Quintana Roo, conocido como Arrecife Maya, el segundo más grande del mundo después de la Gran Barrera Australiana, y al mismo tiempo servir como terreno que permita el crecimiento y proliferación de coral y otras especies que habitan estas aguas. El museo ofrece una alternativa a los cientos de miles de turistas que cada año llegan al destino para admirar la riqueza natural de nuestras aguas. En lugar de acudir a los arrecifes naturales, que se han visto seriamente dañados por el número anual de visitantes, se anima a la gente a practicar buceo y sknorkel en cualquiera de las tres galerías donde se encuentran las esculturas submarinas. Las esculturas del Museo Subacuático de Arte fueron creadas por reconocidos artistas nacionales e internacionales. El proceso de creación de las obras contó con la asesoría de un equipo de biólogos marinos, quienes se aseguraron de que todas las esculturas fueran realizadas con materiales ecológicos, que promovieran el crecimiento del coral, además, las estructuras están diseñadas para acoger flora y fauna marina, lo que ha generado una metamorfosis natural al tiempo que la vida marina se apropia de las esculturas, convirtiendo al museo en una obra tanto del ser humano como de la naturaleza. En tu próximo viaje a Cancún, no olvides reservar un día para conocer una o más de las galerías del Museo. Las actividades que se ofrecen son aptas para toda la familia e incluyen buceo con tanque, snorkel, paseo en bote con fondo de cristal y jungle tour.

The purpose of the Underwater Museum of Art goes beyond being yet another tourist attraction. This project came to life from the necessity of releasing the natural reefs from the pressure of mass tourism and helping to slow down the degradation of the reef system known as the Mayan Reef, the world’s second-largest after the Great Australian Barrier. At the same time, the project allows the growth and proliferation of coral and other native species. The museum is an alternative to the hundreds of thousands of tourists who come to the destination every year to admire the natural wealth of our waters. The sculptures of the Underwater Museum of Art were created by renowned national and international artists. The creation process was assessed by a team of marine biologists, who made sure that the materials used were ecologic and promoted the growth of coral. In addition, the structures are designed to foster marine life, which has led to a natural metamorphosis as life takes over the sculptures, transforming the museum into a work of both human and nature. On your next trip to Cancun, don’t forget to save one day to know the museum.
