When you enter a query into a search engine, it searches its database for relevant websites and pages and displays them in a list of search results. Some of the most popular search engines are Google, Bing, and Yahoo! Search engines use monstrously complex algorithms (or ranking signals) to rank websites and pages based on various factors such as relevance, authority, and user experience. The goal of a search engine is to provide the most relevant and useful results to the user's query. Now, as I am a frustratingly pedantic man, I need to explain the difference between search engines and browsers, as they are often used interchangeably. A browser is a software application used to access and view web pages on the internet. Some popular browsers are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. Browsers enable users to navigate to a website by entering its URL or clicking on a link, and they display the content of the website in a visually pleasing way. While search engines and browsers are both tools used to navigate the internet, they serve different functions. A search engine helps users find specific information by scanning and indexing web pages, while a browser simply displays the content of the web pages. To sum it all up, a search engine is used to search for information, while a browser is used to view information that has already been found.
You can think of a search engine as the guy that collects websites and web browsers as the guy that lets you see them.
