MOVIMENTI: ANIMATION TORN ALONG THE EDGES
For the skill shown in adapting various techniques and styles of animation to stories and characters designed for audiences of different ages and sensibilities, always maintaining that high level of artistic quality which has made them a point of excellence in the Italian panorama and also further afield.
The latest incarnation of Topo Gigio, the anthropomorphic puppet so loved by children, created in 1959 by Maria Perego from an idea of the director Guido Stagnaro for the programme “Serata di Gala”, is an animated series from 2020 in 52 episodes, made in 2D and 3D, and aired on Rai Yoyo. Instead, the six episodes of “Tear Along the Edges” landed on November 17th on Netflix and mark the début of Zerocalcare in the world of animation. In this case, it is a rigorous 2D which brings to life and recreates the atmospheres and characters of the popular graphic novels by Michele Rech, better known as “Zerocalcare”. The common denominator of these series, apparently poles apart, is Movimenti, a television production company and creative hub focused on animation and founded in Milan in 2004 by Giorgio Scorza and Davide Rosio. This company’s philosophy is as simple as it is effective, as its owners explain: “Our main goal is the story and finding the best way to tell it. For this reason, our productions range from medium-length to long TV series, feature films and short films. So that we can compete in the main international markets. Our core business is animation, which for us means international quality, innovation, technique, passion, excellence, creativity, and fun. And the first rule is and will always be: ‘Story first’.”
