Will the
REAL you stand up
ARTICLE GWENDA SMITH
Over recent years, you are sure to have seen many books, and perhaps heard talks about the REAL you.

hat did you make of that when you first heard it? Did you think, “What does that mean, the real me, of course I am me, who else can I possibly be?” You know who you are, right? I mean you know what you like and don’t like, you know all about your habits and how many times you have tried to change them or change yourself in some way. Maybe you have gone on a diet or started a great exercise routine? How did you go when you started to change habits, lose weight, get fit? Did you keep at it and achieve your goal, did you kick the habit to the curb and never look back? I wonder if I was to say, “No you didn’t,” that I would be right for over 80% of you who have tried? You are probably thinking what has any of that got to do with this REAL me thing! It has a whole lot to do with the real you, because you of today is who you have learnt to be. You have evolved to how you behave, think and react today through the experiences of your life so far, but the foundation of all of that is from your upbringing and how you were seen, heard, listened to, spoken about and so much more. Can you remember how it felt when you were praised or berated as a child; wasn’t it much better to feel loved than be berated? How quickly did you learn to ‘be a good girl/boy’ and you thought that was love? How often did you want to break out and do what you wanted to, but you knew that would cost you big time, it would cost you being loved, cared for, supported? It would cost you your friends and maybe even being able to go to special places or do something you had been really looking forward to doing. Through all of that you learn to be somebody that you are not, hence the saying, ‘find the real you’. Can you see it, can you feel in your body what it is to feel unloved, not supported? Where in your body do you feel it, is it in your stomach or chest, perhaps your head is hurting? To discover your REAL self is a wondrous journey
it may take years, or a lifetime but it is worth every moment. Try these simple exercises: Begin by looking at the things you want in your life. How easy is it for you to speak your truth and stand strong in what you believe? Can you see anywhere in your life that you have forgone something that meant a lot to you to make someone else happy? What do you say about your choice of work? This is a starting point, it is helpful to have someone guide and support you to find the REAL you. www.healwithgwenda.com
