What inspired your start in entrepreneurship?

In 2009, a simple conversation with a friend propelled me into the thrilling world of entrepreneurship It all began when my friend contacted me about some innovative services he had started offering his clients. Intrigued, I agreed to watch a video that showcased the value of these services As I immersed myself in the presentation, I couldn’t help but recognize the immense potential they held I knew instantly that I wanted to become a client, but what I didn’t expect was that the video not only revealed the power of the services but also introduced a captivating business opportunity While the concept fascinated me, I never saw myself as a business owner Doubts and uncertainties clouded my mind

Shortly after watching the video, my friend informed me that he was participating in a competition and needed my support to achieve his goals

Determined to help my friend, I became a client and decided to invest in the business opportunity I had initially dismissed

As I signed on the dotted line, little did I know that this decision would catapult me into a whirlwind of possibilities The recruiting system of the business quickly drew me in, captivating my attention and igniting a spark of curiosity within me It was as if I was being nudged down the path of entrepreneurship

The next pivotal moment came when I was tasked with organizing an in-home presentation to introduce others to this opportunity To my surprise, one of the company’s top income earners, a woman I had seen in the video, happened to be in town. Her presence added an air of excitement and inspiration to my business launch

Hearing her incredible story and spending time with her, something clicked inside me I was captivated by her success, and a realization dawned upon me: if she could achieve financial prosperity through this company, and we were merely a few months apart in age, then why couldn’t I? At that moment, I saw entrepreneurship as a vital part of my path toward achieving my own financial goals

From that point forward, my dedication to building my business grew unwavering I embraced the challenges and hurdles that came my way, knowing they were stepping stones toward my vision of success Entrepreneurship became more than just a means to an end it became a journey of selfdiscovery, personal growth, and the fulfillment of my dreams

Can you share how your brand Twisted Networking came about?

About a year after I started my first business, I received a random phone call from someone who found my business card on a bulletin board at a restaurant, and he invited me to attend a networking event

I vividly remember the feeling that I had at my first networking event. Walking into a room full of strangers triggered my first panic attack I had to leave the venue and go outside because I was hyperventilating, sweating profusely, and shaking, unlike anything I had ever experienced After saying a quick, silent prayer, I regained my composure enough to go back inside

Following that experience, I got invited to various networking events, each with slightly different formats. I would accept the invitations even though I would be nervous before, during, and afterward

While I was at these events, I would usually watch and observe I would interact sporadically, primarily nodding my head and listening to others speak But I loved the thought process behind bringing like-minded businesspeople together to share, support, and pass referrals

I quickly learned that people did business with people who they know, like, and trust, and networking events were the conduit for bringing people together to grow their businesses However, all the events I attended left me feeling like something was missing

Recognizing the need for a balanced networking experience, I decided that I was going to create an event that would make networking more comfortable and easier for me

In January 2017, I held my first networking event at a Chinese restaurant in Rhode Island My attendees loved the format I had created, and within a few months, I was selling my system to other entrepreneurs who saw the value in using networking events to build their businesses

In just 6 years, Twisted Networking has seen attendees from over a dozen US states, Mexico, the UK, Granada, Sweden, Africa, Peru, Malaysia, and several other countries

What is your mission through your organization?

Our primary objective is to assist attendees in taking their businesses, causes, organizations, or careers to the next level by fostering meaningful relationships within a comfortable and welcoming environment

During our events, we strive to provide an optimal blend of informativeness, interactivity, enjoyment, and efficient use of time Our events are designed to be educational and engaging, ensuring attendees gain valuable insights and connections while having a great time

We build connections based on shared interests, passions, or values rather than solely professional or transactional purposes. We recognize that people connect more deeply when they can relate on a personal level, and this can lead to more fruitful and long-lasting relationships

Twisted Networking aims to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere where our attendees can showcase their authentic selves and build relationships based on trust and mutual support We emphasize the power of collaboration, synergy, and shared experiences in networking, recognizing that meaningful connections can lead to personal and professional growth

Overall, Twisted Networking offers a fresh and unconventional approach to networking, moving away from traditional formalities and focusing on building genuine connections through shared interests, creativity, and fun We seek to transform networking from a transactional activity into a meaningful and enjoyable experience that cultivates valuable relationships.

Tell us about your role as a networking coach. How does your role benefit women in business?

As a networking coach, my primary objective is to empower individuals and organizations to enhance their networking skills and optimize their networking endeavors for business growth and success. I accomplish this through diverse offerings, including my book titled The Introvert’s Guide to Becoming a Master Networker, my comprehensive digital course known as Networking School, engaging in-person and virtual workshops, and delivering impactful speaking engagements

One aspect of my work that brings me great fulfillment is providing invaluable support and guidance tailored specifically to women’s unique needs and challenges in the business world I understand the importance of addressing the obstacles that women often encounter when it comes to networking, such as self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and other confidence-related issues that can hinder their full engagement in networking activities By focusing on these areas, I assist women in building their confidence and empower them to navigate the networking landscape effectively

I am committed to helping women overcome any gender bias they may encounter in networking environments. I equip them with powerful techniques to handle biases, develop assertiveness, and leverage their strengths to establish credibility and influence within their professional network By providing practical strategies, I enable women to break through barriers and create impactful connections that transcend gender stereotypes

I assist women in developing a strong personal brand and effective communication strategies Through personalized guidance, I help women articulate their unique value proposition, refine their messaging, and enhance their networking pitch. By honing these essential skills, women can effectively communicate their expertise, skills, and aspirations, leaving a lasting impression on potential collaborators or employers

A final aspect of my work involves assisting women in cultivating networks that align with their professional goals I offer valuable advice on identifying and connecting with mentors, sponsors, and like-minded peers who can provide invaluable guidance, open doors to opportunities, and offer unwavering support throughout their career journey. By facilitating these connections, I empower women to tap into the immense power of networking, expanding their horizons and propelling them toward their desired accomplishments.

When did you realize you had a message to share with the world?

In May of 2021, my business coach suggested that I should write a book At first, I was taken aback and thought, “Me? Write a book? I buy books and read books, but I don’t write them ” However, his words resonated with me, and after contemplating the idea, I surprised myself by coming up with the title for my book within two weeks Determined to bring this concept to life, I immersed myself in the writing process, and within two months, I completed the initial draft of my manuscript.

Tell us about your book, The Introverts Guide to Becoming a Master Networker. In The Introvert’s Guide to Becoming a Master Networker, I present a comprehensive resource filled with practical advice and proven strategies specifically designed to empower introverts in their journey toward enhancing their networking skills and achieving success in both professional and social environments The book acknowledges the inherent challenges introverts face when it comes to networking, recognizing their preference for solitude and the need to recharge in quieter settings.

Dispelling common misconceptions, I challenge the notion that introverts are passive, indifferent, or unassertive

Instead, I shed light on the unique qualities and strengths that introverts possess, which make them exceptionally well-suited for building deep, meaningful relationships the cornerstone of authentic networking. Through a ten-step process tailored to the introvert’s perspective, I guide readers on their path to becoming master networkers.

Throughout the book, I explore a range of key topics essential for introverts looking to excel in networking These include gaining a deep understanding of introversion itself, mastering networking fundamentals, overcoming common networking challenges specific to introverts, embracing authenticity, developing a compelling personal brand, crafting an effective networking strategy, expanding digital networks to leverage online platforms, nurturing relationships through meaningful follow-up, and creating an introvert-friendly networking environment.

By offering insights into the unique strengths of introverts, such as active listening, thoughtful observation, and the ability to forge genuine connections, my book empowers introverts to leverage these qualities as they build a strong network I demonstrate how introverts can create meaningful relationships that propel them forward in their careers or personal endeavors, utilizing their innate strengths to achieve their goals.

The Introvert’s Guide to Becoming a Master Networker serves as a roadmap for introverts seeking to navigate the world of networking with confidence and authenticity It is a resource that supports their journey and celebrates and harnesses the untapped potential within introverts, empowering them to forge connections that truly matter.

What do you hope women take away from your work?

While The Introvert’s Guide to Becoming a Master Networker addresses networking challenges that introverts face, it also recognizes some of the unique obstacles that women may encounter in professional and social settings

By reading this guide, women can discover key insights and strategies that will enable them to navigate the networking landscape with confidence, authenticity, and success.

One important takeaway from the book is the emphasis on embracing and leveraging strengths, particularly for those who identify as introverts. It highlights qualities such as active listening, empathy, and the ability to establish deep connections, which women can harness to build meaningful relationships and create networking opportunities that align with their values and goals

The guide also emphasizes the importance of cultivating an authentic personal brand Women are encouraged to develop a brand that is true to their values, passions, and goals, avoiding conformity to traditional societal expectations. By embracing their uniqueness, women can stand out and attract connections that resonate with who they truly are.

Additionally, the guide highlights the value of supportive networks and mentorship. It emphasizes the importance of seeking mentors who can offer guidance, support, and growth opportunities. Furthermore, it encourages women to support and uplift each other, fostering a community of empowerment in their professional journeys.

WaystoKeep theRomance AliveWithA BusySchedule

Having a busy schedule and being in a relationship or married is not always oil and water The two can mix if you have a proper foundation Sometimes it may seem impossible based on your different schedules, the stress that comes with the jobs you both hold, or the energy it takes to connect emotionally, mentally, and physically after a long day At first, it may not seem such a big deal that you must cancel a date or romantic dinner Still, eventually, all of those canceled events will add up They will make a difference in the eye of your significant other. There are multiple ways to ensure you can keep the romance alive with a busy schedule.

First, ensure your partner knows how busy your schedule will be You never want to blindside your partner and have them under the impression that you’re less busy than you are Make sure to be open and honest about your schedule when making plans with your partner Let them in and see how you operate on a business level That will give them a sense of what you do day in and day out. You must commit to the challenges within your busy schedule and also within your personal life Sometimes that will drive you crazy and drain your energy all at once, but it will be worth it in the end.

There are plenty of ways to utilize your time wisely while having a busy schedule and incorporating romance into that schedule.

They will feel as if they are not a priority for you. However, that can be avoided if you find ways to keep the romance alive with a busy schedule

There are plenty of ways to utilize your time wisely while having a busy schedule and incorporating romance into that schedule Many of us just do not take the time to figure out what will work best for us Not all of these will work, but finding the one that suits your relationship best is the key to success

Here are five strategies for maintaining a healthy relationship even when you’re swamped with work.

Put dates on the calendar--and don’t cancel!

If your relationship is truly a priority, then you have to prioritize it on your schedule While it may not seem romantic to pencil dates on the calendar, this is the most effective way to ensure you and your partner enjoy quality time together on a regular basis.

Secondly, never make your significant other feel left out Never make them feel as if you do not have the time for them or are unwilling to make time for them There will always be a time for work, and there will always be a place for pleasure You have to create that line between the two in order to allow for enough time for the two. A significant other of a spouse that feels left out will eventually tend to feel alone They will not see how busy you are with work at that point; they will only see that you are not making enough time for them.

Once you’ve scheduled your dates, avoid the classic “Netflix and sweatpants” rut and do new things together instead For example, you might try a new exercise class, experiment with new cooking techniques or recipes, pick up a new hobby, or simply take turns asking each other questions you don’t know the answer to

Research consistently finds couples who experiment with new activities enjoy better relationships, so make it a point to keep things fresh

When you’re together, be present. It doesn’t count as quality time if you’re checking your phone all through dinner If you’ve made a point of scheduling time with your partner, then respect that time by being present

Make your partner your focus the whole time you’re together, and you’ll enjoy much greater intimacy (and reduce the risk of your partner feeling disrespected or resentful).

If your relationship is truly a priority, then you have to prioritize it on your schedule.

Make time for communication. Even if you consistently make time for each other, your intimacy with your partner can still erode if you never scratch below the surface While it can be tough to find the energy to have serious conversations after a long day at work, dig deep and make it happen It’s especially important to communicate to your partner how you feel about your work schedule--and vice versa. Give each other space to air feelings, talk about what is and isn’t working in the relationship, express personal needs, and brainstorm strategies to make sure you both continue to have your needs met regardless of what’sgoingonatwork

Try to maintain the same sleep schedule. Sure, catching some ZZZs side by side might not breed any inside jokes or wild stories to bond over the next day But maintaining the same sleep schedule can still foster intimacy. That’s because physicalclosenessisakeypartofmostrelationships There’s no substitute for pressing the snooze button and enjoying a spoon fest in the morning, so try to hitthesheetstogetheronmostnightsoftheweek

Don’t forget the details. Birthdays, anniversaries, quirky rituals, saying “thank you”whenyourpartnertakesoutthe trash--it’s easy to take these things for granted when you’re feeling overworked Nevertheless, the details matter Small gestures such as remembering important dates, bringing home takeout from your partner’s favorite restaurant, responding to your partner’s calls or texts, asking about your partner’s day, and so on demonstrate to your SO that you’re invested in noticing and valuing what makes them (andyourrelationship)unique

Maintaining an intimate relationship and a demanding career is no cakewalk But by committing to these strategies as a foundation for a healthier relationship, you’ll help ensure your partner continues to feel valued and your relationship doesn’t erode simply because of entropy. Bottom line? Small, consistent habits can makeaworldofdifference(Kline,2018)

THE KEYS TO THE KEYS TO THE KEYS TO HAPPINESS HAPPINESS HAPPINESS

Webster’s Dictionary defines happiness as “ a state of wellbeing and contentment” and as a “pleasurable or satisfying experience ” I have come to understand in my 51 years of life that one’s definition of happiness and one’s requirements to experience happiness are ever-evolving based on where one is in their life

One thing that must be examined is our current mindset. This should be a constant process We should be intentional about checking in with ourselves We should always be working on ourselves It is important to ask ourselves some things:

Where am I?

How am I feeling?

Why am I feeling what I am feeling?

What am I thinking?

Why am I thinking what I am thinking?

What changes do I need to make?

When we honestly answer these questions, I believe we realize some keys to our happiness as well as our perspective on happiness I encourage my clients to set aside time to reflect at least once a month

So much happens, and many things impact us mentally, emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually We must be intentional in showing up and doing the work daily.

I would like to share some keys to happiness that will give each of us a fresh perspective and something to contemplate going forward.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN HAPPINESS

Now I know this may be a shocker to many, but at the end of the day, it is no one else’s responsibility to make you happy, nor are you responsible for someone else’s happiness We often say things like, “As long as you’re happy, I’m happy,” and that may not always be the case.

As women, we are taught to be agreeable and congenial We should commit to always being true to ourselves and never feel as though we have to compromise where it puts us at a disadvantage or depletes us

PAGE FOUR| JOURNEY

In that same vein, we should never pressure an individual to give us something that we cannot and do not give ourselves We should never ask someone to fill a cup we are unwilling to pour into ourselves. Happiness starts with YOU!

IF IT DOES NOT BRING YOU A STATE OF CONTENTMENT OR IS A SATISFYING EXPERIENCE, STOP DOING IT This is a habit that must be broken. We do not have to do things that do not fulfill us or bring us a level of satisfaction or pleasure. We can say no to things and say yes to new things broaden our horizons and pique our interest in learning about ourselves and our evolution as a woman. This is checking in with ourselves is so important and asking the questions

FIND HAPPINESS IN THE LITTLE THINGS. Stop exp happiness in material things, money, the number of foll and likes, positions, titles, physical appearance, etc It is true that happiness comes from WITHIN If we do no what is on the inside of us, do the work to change it be nothing we do to the outside will allow us to experience term and sustainable happiness Changing our appearance, our purse, or our car will give us a temporary level of satisfaction, but ultimately, we will see something else and find ourselves comparing ourselves and competing with others who couldn’t care less about us, our happine state of mind We will bankrupt ourselves financ emotionally, trying to meet the expectations of ot were never important in the first place. Check your check your motives

As a Certified Life Coach, I encourage my clients accountability partner who will be honest, keep us and hold us to a standard that helps us grow, blos flourish Never be afraid to be transparent and Showing up in this way allows others to see what it and the freedom it affords, giving them permission same This is how we let our light shine This is how we empower and enlighten others This is how we are truly our sister’s keeper.

Keep showing up and keep doing your work.

I’m rooting for you!

HOW TO START A NONPROFIT

Every once in a while, you would hear about a close friend starting a business It always had LLC at the end of the name While at brunch one day, a friend mentioned she wanted to start a 501c3. Everyone around the table looked confused and asked what a 501c3 was, and she said it was a nonprofit organization. With looks of concern, everyone began asking their friend different questions “How are you going to do that? What does it entail? Who will sit on your board? How much does it cost? Isn’t that a taxexempt organization? Do you know what forms to file?” With all those questions asked, no one asked if they could help

Establishing a nonprofit organization is not as easy as many think However, it can be extremely easy for some depending on their knowledge surrounding nonprofit organizations. There’s a lot of strategic work that goes into finally being about to call your organization a 501c3. Below are the most common steps needed to create your nonprofit organization in your state and eventually file for your 501c3

Although the list may seem long and highly complex, it is all worth it in the end when you can finally call your organization a 501c3 There are also plenty of reasons and benefits surrounding starting a nonprofit organization

Boost your credibility, trustworthiness, and goodwill in the marketplace.

The ability to qualify and leverage millions of dollars’ worth of grants and funding.

Tax incentives associated with donating or investing in nonprofit causes

Increase the net value of your business by adding a nonprofit component

Create your legacy and leave a deeper footprint in your marketplace

Creating a nonprofit enables you to think beyond profits and revenue and enables you to think of your overall purpose in life or business. It’s a vehicle that allows you to focus on the big picture and set longterm goals and objectives that can change the lives of hundreds, thousands, or even millions of people. On top of that, Fortune 500 companies and government bodies will be more likely to support your venture and fund your initiatives as well (Peddinti, 2022)

What inspired your passion for advocating the need for body positivity? Can you share your experience?

My passion for body positivity comes from a lifetime of growing up plus-sized and being offered diets since I was 11 I eventually understood that my worth was tied to a scale and that I was beautiful as I was I want people to embrace and celebrate their bodies as they are and reject that worth and happiness is tied to external factors

Tell us about My Beautiful Fluff. What do you hope women take away from your platform?

Covid hit, and she found herself stuck in a never-ending commute to and from work. Outside of business, who is Renée in seven words?

That is a great question! Outside of business, Renée is:

Compassionate An Eager Learner Energetic Mental Health Advocate Patient Resilient Resourceful

How do you practice self-care?

My last job was so demanding that my mental health & self-care routine suffered. I would work for hours on end with no breaks, and sometimes I would miss meals, making me sick I needed to regain my balance, so the first thing I did to practice the best self-care for myself was leave that job

The next thing I did was set clear boundaries and practice saying the word ‘ no, ’ which has sometimes been difficult for me. Creating a schedule has helped me feel less overwhelmed. However, I best practice selfcare by taking breaks and spending time with my loved ones Creating memories that last a lifetime is important, and I am ensuring it is done

What have been some of the challenges of switching from an employee mindset to an entrepreneur mindset as a business owner?

Switching from an employee mindset to an entrepreneur mindset did have a few challenges For instance, I had to understand that making a mistake as an entrepreneur is a natural part of the process Learning from it would only help me get better. With an employee mindset, I felt like I had to be the smartest person in the room, but having an entrepreneur mindset means surrounding myself with people who are smarter than me and not viewing it as a competition but rather a collaboration Even though it was a little scary having to take on a new world of responsibilities, I know for sure that it was worth it

What advice would you give to a woman who wants to start a business?

You are capable of anything, so if there is something you want to do, go for it! Do your research, get some mentorship, and make genuine connections These aspects can take you really far. When I started, I didn’t know much about entrepreneurship, but I crafted a plan and worked towards it every day. I’m still learning, but as an entrepreneur, this is part of the mindset to get familiar with – be in a constant state of learning!

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

To me, a pretty woman who hustles refers to a woman who is beautiful (both inside and out) and works tirelessly to create the life she WANTS and desires While it is easy to get caught up in the overwhelm each day may bring, a pretty woman who hustles knows it is important to maintain healthy boundaries and balance her personal and professional life properly.

You are running three successful brands What does self-care look like for you?

Self-care for me is really taking time to enjoy the fruits of my labor I enjoy going to the nail salon to get a fresh set or a royal pedicure I love to listen to music, preferably oldschool R&B or AfroBeats Most importantly, I make sure to take time AWAY from anything work-related and plug into my family and friends Self-care is also checking in to see how I feel on all fronts I make sure I eat and stay hydrated, take breaks when needed, or take time off when things get too stressful or chaotic

What message do you hope your supporters take away from your platform?

She retired from the VA after 20 years of service and is currently the pastor of St Paul-Agnew AME Church in Pulaski, Tennessee

After retirement, Rev Benita started Living Ceremonies, a wedding officiant business, where she creates memorable, meaningful, and marvelous custom wedding ceremonies

She is the mother of Aisha (Andre) Fayne, Nonjala Brister, and Justin Gladney and the proud grandmother of Charlie London and Sloane Embry Fayne.

You have been a minister for over 30 years Can you take us back to the moment you first accepted your calling into the ministry? Can you tell us about that experience?

I have been a member of the AME Church (African Methodist Episcopal) all my life At the time of my calling, I had become restless and unsatisfied with my career I was working for a local TV station in Memphis, TN I knew there was something more I was supposed to be doing I knew I was supposed to be doing something to help people, so I decided to go to nursing school I got the application and filled it out, and the Sunday before I was going to submit it, I was sitting at church, the preacher extended the invitation, and a young lady accepted her call into ministry I was excited for her, and in my left ear, I heard God say, Well, Benita, what are you going to do for me? I slightly turned my head because I thought someone was behind me, but I knew there wasnt

S H E ' S P R E T T Y & S A V E D

So I flipped off an answer, “Well, it sho ain’t gonna be preaching” I then realized who I was talking to and began seeking God I had so many objections as to why I shouldn’t do this, but God answered them all

Do you remember the church where you served and the pastor who poured into you at that time?

I was a St Andrew AME Church member, and my pastor was Rev Dr Kenneth Robinson, MD I was at my home church in Arkansas when I heard God speaking I accepted my calling at St Andrew

You spent several years in seminary perfecting your craft and gaining knowledge A lot of ministers say that seminary school is life-changing. Can you tell us a key takeaway you took from this experience?

Going to seminary was the best thing that could have happened for me Although I didn’t want to at first, I had to go to become a hospital chaplain, which is what God again said in my ear Knowing the purpose of why I was there made things more interesting I always say my brain kicked in in seminary because I played around and barely graduated during my undergraduate time, but seminary was exciting and challenging Seminary helped me look beyond the text to examine, question, and research It opened my eyes and showed me some of my biases, helped me care for people, and gave me a deeper understanding of who God is

You have spent many years working in the workforce and accumulated several awards What would you say was the overall highlight of your career?

God called me to be a Hospital Chaplain, and I worked as a Chaplain at the Memphis VA Hospital for 20 years It was the most rewarding ministry I could have had I am so grateful to God for allowing me to be present with men and women who served our country My whole career at the VA was a highlight I am grateful for every handheld, every prayer prayed, every veteran who touched my life, every life that was changed, every family I had the opportunity to minister to during a time of grief and loss, and the staff I worked with The awards were not the highlight There were times when I just sat in silence with a family who had just lost a loved one; those are the moments that mattered to me

You are now a Pastor of an amazing congregation in Pulaski, TN How do you balance ministry and your demands of life and motherhood?

St Paul-Agnew AME Church is a wonderful congregation, and I love being their pastor Any pastor knows that caring for the needs of a congregation or ministry can cause burnout, especially if you have a family, and trying to balance it all can be stressful At this time in my life, my children are grown and have lives of their own I have two precious granddaughters I moved from Memphis to Nashville to be close to, so I try to balance my time to be present in their lives One thing I try to do is have a Sabbath day of rest when I’m not doing any church or business work

What do you hope your congregation takes away from your ministry as a whole?

I hope the congregation will feel loved, encouraged, inspired to serve, and healed

What is next for you?

I retired from the VA in November 2021 and took some time to rest and listen for my “what’s next?” answer In November of 2022, I started Living Ceremonies, a wedding officiant business Weddings are happy and joyous occasions, and I wanted to do something that was fun and uplifting Being a wedding officiant is so much fun I love meeting new couples, learning about them, and creating a wedding ceremony that is all about them I take their love story and incorporate it into the wedding ceremony It can be traditional or non-traditional, religious or non-religious, and include any rituals they might want. It is my mission to make their wedding ceremony memorable, meaningful, and marvelous

NAVIGATING NAVIGATING NAVIGATING GRIEF WHILE GRIEF WHILE GRIEF WHILE RUNNING A RUNNING A RUNNING A BUSINESS BUSINESS BUSINESS

Understanding the 7 stages of grief will be needed to navigate that same grief while running a business The 7 stages of grief are commonly known as:

Shock and Denial

Pain and Guilt

Anger and Bargaining

Depression

The Upward Turn Reconstruction & Working Through Acceptance and Hope

These seven stages are not necessarily in order and may occur more than once Grief is not a linear, standard process; it can vary from person to person

What Does Grief Feel Like?

The onset of grief brings with it a host of complex feelings, behavioral changes, and physical symptoms These symptoms may be new to people, and it is important to understand their connection to grief. In conjunction with a major loss, the uncertainty of these symptoms can make you feel disoriented, confused, and off balance

Symptoms associated with grief include:

Physical changes: Lack of energy, loss of appetite, headaches, body tension, digestive issues.

Behavioral changes: Increased frustrated and angry episodes, increased isolation, inability to sleep or sleeping much more, inability to concentrate.

Emotional changes: Feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, sadness, numbness, fear, guilt, anger, and anxiety (Waichler MSW, LCSW, 2023)

There will never be a true timeline for how long the grief process will last Even though we may believe we have ventured through all 7 stages, the slightest memory of the person we lost can start us back at stage 1 Grief is a different process that cannot be rushed and cannot be avoided This is where navigation of your business can assist with your grief. Keeping your mind occupied during your grieving can be pretty beneficial

1. 2 3 4 5. 6 7

I know from experience that grief can take over your mind, and your body will want to shut down Being a business owner, I could not allow myself to do that After losing my dad, things were tough I was in school obtaining my second master’s degree, and I only had two classes left when he passed Part of me wanted to stop and take a leave of absence, but the other part of me knew that was not what he would have wanted.

He always told me that “Easley, don’t quit,” so that’s w kept telling myself. The same thing goes for my compan knew I couldn’t just drop everything and go hide. I knew down I wanted to become a recluse and remove myself society, but I had clients who depended on my comp services That’s what gave me the drive to keep g Hearing my dad say over and over “Easleys don’t quit” me the strength to push harder I have to say that his d pushed me to be the seven-time business owner that today I wouldn’t and couldn’t have done it if I didn’t know how he would’ve felt if I had let the grief take over me

Do I still get sad? Yes, every day. Do I miss my dad? Of course, I do. Do I think of him? Yes, as often as I take each breath each day. There will never be a moment when grief doesn’t sneak up on me and remind me that my dad isn’t here anymore. When I achieve new goals, receive a new award for my company, or secure major contracts with clients; I want to jump on the phone and let him know I want to hear him say, “I’m proud of you, Kwanita,” but I know that’s not going to happen So, I just throw myself deeper into my work and let it speak for itself

Running a business is hard, let alone running seven of them at multiple stages In my case, grief pushed me to my all-time high because I turned something horrible into something positive You can also do that with your business(es) and become something bigger than that grief. You are in control of how the grief has a toll on you, your life, your family, and your business.

Meal plans and Recipes, Wholistic Health Coaching, Spiritual Counseling and Coaching, Online Pastoral Care, Teatime Journal Therapy, speaking for wellness and wellbeing workshops, conferences, seminars, and other self-care programs and products

When did you realize you held a passion for wellness?

I think it would have been as a very young child starting with playing with my nursing set. I was taking everyone’s blood pressure then, starting with my dolls (LOL), but the true realization came when I was a teenager in High School, and I became very particular about my physical appearance and daily healthy routine, especially my nutrition I made a bet with my classmate and won I told them I was no longer interested in eating meat and I would stop They “dared me,” telling me I couldn’t I told them to watch me; I became a Lacto-Vegetarian and fasted weekly, and that began in earnest my healthy lifestyle. Also, Food Nutrition was one of my favorite classes. I made history on our island as the first and only student in my year to pass our Food and Nutrition (CXC) regional exams I later went on to a national college and became active in our weekly college radio program hosting the nutrition segment and also writing nutrition articles for our college magazine My wellness career started off well before I started in our workforce

Monday was chosen because research has shown on this day, people are most responsive to positive changes in their lifestyle. My company, in 2016, realizing the importance of how communities can help build and sustain great healthy practices, signed a Meatless Monday Pledge they were offering back then and never looked back I introduced it to the public schools I was connected to I encouraged the general public in a local radio program I co-hosted, Let’s Talk Health, and to my audience on social media I shared flyers, did cooking videos, shared meatless recipes, and I continued to host many healthy Meatless Monday Challenges.

I use the MeatlessMonday Campaigns as a fun, simple way of introducing people to take charge of their health while encouraging their family members, colleagues, and friends to engage in a healthier lifestyle It also served as an amazing way to try new tasty, healthy dishes Meatless Monday has helped our online and offline community to begin sustainable and healthy nutrition lifestyle, including our “A Taste of African Heritage,” continuing to teach people the healthy habits in their culture, reducing and helping heal chronic preventable diseases like diabetics, obesity, hypertension, kidney and heart diseases.

Outside of wellness and business, who is RevJoslyn Farray Pierre in eight words?

Joslyn is a passionate person, nature lover, reserved, and elegant High-Priestess

What is your favorite healthy meal?

My favorite healthy meal is Egg-Plant Au-gratin It was one of the very first cooking videos I shared with my Meatless Monday audience. A dish made with eggplant, tomatoes, peppers, onions, vegetarian cheese, and other herbs and flavorings.

https://revjoslyn.link

I had the pleasure of participating in Intuitive Well-being

Meatless Monday Challenge with you this year. Please tell the readers about Meatless Monday and what inspired you to start the initiative?

I am so happy you brought this up This gets me all excited (LOL) It has been such a delight completing this challenge with your group. Meatless Monday is a Global Campaign started in 2003 by Sid Lerner in association with the John Hopkin Center for a livable future. Its history is linked to the conservation campaign in World War 1, and it is supported by millions worldwide, including Oprah Winfrey and other famous public figures

This initiative encourages people to skip meat once a week every Monday to reduce the incidence of chronic preventable diseases, prevent precious land and water resources, and fight climate change

Health and wellness is an essential aspect of life. What advice would you give to those who are trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle?

Start small and stay consistent with a simple routine Develop both a morning and nighttime routine It could be very simple, starting with a one-stretch routine, taking at least 3 deep breaths, drinking a glass of water, and repeating one sentence of gratitude both morning and evening. Then keep building on that. I also suggest being in nature as much as possible and learning to listen to your body’s natural rhythm and intuition. Drink water throughout your day; include raw fruits and veggies daily Learn about the different types of meditation and make it a part of your routine

Also, include journaling as a healthy practice, whether it is to brain dump to get rid of the clutter on your mind or to set intentions to help you reach your life goals or dreams

THE INTUITIVE WELL-BEING EDUCATOR

THE INTUITIVE WELLBEING EDUCATOR

Do not underestimate the power of being active within a healthy community, or a great sister circle, having a health coach, or implementing the healthy tips from a great magazine or book as a healthy boost and amazing inspiration. I’ve documented some simple healthy practices to help one build a healthy wellness practice in this Healthy Lifestyle Journey Journal book, available on Amazon

What are a few benefits of meditation?

My personal experience with meditation is one of amazing and powerful well-being breakthroughs It has saved my life, helping me successfully navigate through a transition and arise like a phoenix from the ashes of a rock bottom moment. I normally host a 5-day meditation challenge, and within that challenge, I highlight how incredible mindfulness and meditation have been shown to be effective support for many conditions (e g , anxiety, depression, stress, chronic pain, addiction recovery)

Physiological mechanisms linked with meditation are thought to be beneficial because meditation appears to reduce inflammatory reactivity to stress and illness Research shows that meditation is an effective tool for improved learning, memory, focus, and balanced blood pressure and is associated with improved self-awareness, compassion, and introspection

In addition, consistent practice can help us cope with unpleasant experiences, as I mentioned previously (e g , thoughts, emotions, pain), simply by tapping into the breath during the experience. Your body will remember the calm and stillness from your regular practice, and your heart rate, blood pressure, and cortisol levels can come back into balance What is most impressive are the physical changes seen via brain scans when people have engaged in a consistent daily 27 minutes

APRIL NOWLIN

April Nowlin supports people who are ready to experience the joy and freedom of real healing after a failed relationship and create a life they love April is a Certified Divorce Recovery, Dating, and Business Coach As a 3-time divorcee, shes weathered the storms of transition and learned the techniques to fully heal and thrive after a broken relationship. April is a published author, inspiring speaker, podcast host, and workshop leader who combines relatable storytelling, humor, and authenticity April has created unique solutions for people who want to crush the barriers to their personal and business success

Outside of entrepreneurship. Who is April in 5 words?

Adventurous, Compassionate, Relentless, Empowered, Funny

How did you get your start in counseling and coaching?

From a young age, I’ve had a passion for helping people achieve their goals and a knack for thinking outside of the box to solve problems While working for organizations that created tools for small businesses, I realized how much I enjoyed helping them grow In 2013 I launched a business consulting venture to help entrepreneurs create sustainable businesses that affected change in their community and fulfilled their purpose In 2021 I added life coaching to my repertoire after realizing that the success of a business was very closely tied to the personal success of the business owner

What sparked your interest in divorce recovery specifically?

In 2019 I navigated my third divorce, and through my healing process, I experienced firsthand the massive gap in the level of support for people processing a devastating heartbreak This was even more prevalent in faith-based communities. There was an abundance of help for single, engaged, and married individuals, but resources for those experiencing divorce were scarce One of the reasons it took me 20 years to break the cycle of toxic relationship habits was the lack of niche support that was relatable to my unique situation I set out to become the help I needed many years ago I was determined to give my pain a purpose and help others to create a life of freedom, joy, and independence

Can you share the benefits of having a certified Divorce recovery coach as part of your divorcing process?

As with any healing process, whether it be physical, mental, or emotional, having the right support greatly increases your chances of lasting healing A divorce recovery coach is specially trained to advise individuals on important decisions to be made when contemplating divorce and going through the process They are experts in supporting people who are recovering from the fallout of failed relationship

Counselors and therapists are valuable resources that often focus on the past; a divorce recovery coach is futurefocused, honing in on where you are now and where you want to be Working with a divorce recovery coach can greatly ease the distress of rebuilding a life after heartbreak

You have gone through 3 divorces and have been able to bounce back and transition into the best version of you. Can you share a little about your experience and what made you realize you had to fully heal in order to move forward?

My daughter, who was 10 years old during my last divorce, was the catalyst to seek lasting healing I knew my actions were going to shape her perception and expectations of intimate relationships As a close second, I was sick and tired of the same relationship outcomes I’m sure age, maturity, and exhaustion played a role in this major turning point, but at the core of me, I simply wanted something different for my future I did not want to get to the end of my life and have a road of regrets to reflect on I made the intentional choice to look inward, asked for help, focused on my toxic patterns, and did the hard work to see real change

What message do you hope women take away from your platform?

Divorce is a death but not a death sentence Despite the trauma of a failed marriage, the divorce recovery process doesnt have to be a dreadful experience It can be a golden opportunity to redesign your life just the way you want it Starting over and loving your life again can seem like the greatest impossibility, but your broken relationship is just one chapter in your story, and your story doesn’t end there You are stronger than you think; with the right support and resources, you can turn your trauma into triumph

Tell us about your book and your target audience with this work?

Move The Finish Line: A Healing Journey of Pain and Purpose was written as part of my healing process following my third failed marriage In the book, I share my raw and authentic thoughts and revelations about what led me to experience three divorces over a span of 20 years and identify the tools to end the cycle of toxic relationship choices

What is next for you?

While helping my clients to bounce back from unhealthy relationships, I realized how beneficial it would be to prepare them to avoid those relationships altogether In 2022 I launched a new program focused on healthy dating for those who are ready to re-enter the dating world These resources help people to understand unhealthy dating patterns, recognize blind spots, and assist with creating a personalized dating strategy. My next phase will include new group coaching programs, services, and workshops, delivered virtually and in person, to help break toxic relationship habits

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

When I think of Pretty Women Who Hustles, I envision the woman who is relentless and unstoppable at achieving her goals, dreams, and purpose She is not perfect but uses her challenges as a catalyst to propel her to her destiny

RUTH JACKSON

Ruth Jackson is a Deaf Black woman who wants to bridge the gap between the Deaf and hearing worlds by teaching people how to bake (whether you are fluent in ASL or not) while showing them that Deaf people are simply a group of people who want to be treated equally and fairly -- just like you In addition to being a small business owner, she is a published author of a few short stories, currently working on a novel and a children's book series as well In her free time, she loves to explore new beaches, hiking trails, and cities

This business started with God gently pushing her to pursue her YouTube channel - The Sassy Baker On it, she made new and old recipes and shared "Food for Thought" on topics related to Deaf culture, Black culture, and being a Deaf Black Christian All of these identities she holds are not easy to juggle

She recently launched Bake it With Sass with two subscriptions: New Sass on the Block for beginners and Beyond Sassy for more advanced In each subscription package, you will receive a library of video recipes: cookies, brownies, cakes, and allergy-friendly recipes as well If you want access to both video recipe libraries, subscribe to Beyond Sassy Also included in both subscriptions is access to the community of Sassy Bakers, where you can ask questions, share pictures of your baking successes, show off your sassy dance, and learn from each other Every video is in ASL with English captions

There are also blog posts featuring baking tips and Deaf culture tidbits Ruth will be adding videos every month, so what you see now is not the end

Who is Ruth Jackson in five words? sassy, funny, ambitious, adventurous, sweet

How did you get your start in entrepreneurship?

My big dream is to build a community center for Deaf children I realized last year that my job as an ASL teacher wouldn't be able to keep a roof over my head AND fund my dreams I realized I needed multiple streams of income for my dream to become a reality An opportunity to go to LifeSurge in Westminster last October arose, and through that, I took classes in real estate, the stock market, and online businesses I started a YouTube channel two years ago My thought was to build off of that by starting a bakery Still, my coach at the online business class suggested using The Sassy Baker channel and turning it into a business As he gave me some ideas and my mind started popping I knew at that moment this was what God was building within me When I started The Sassy Baker -- I was just a bored 20something during the lockdown looking for ASL baking videos, but I couldn't find any So I decided to make my own Before I knew it, people were asking for more My love for baking and ASL came together in a way I wasn't expecting I needed this push to get started, and from there, I created Bake It With Sass.

T H E S A S S Y B A K E R ENTREPRENEUR

How did your story with ASL impact the way you do business?

I was born with moderate/severe hearing loss but wasn't introduced to ASL or Deaf culture till high school Growing up, I felt isolated and left out of everyday conversations I was bullied from 1st grade all the way through high school I didn't realize it at the time, but I was pretending to be someone I wasn't for most of my life I don't want that for anyone else All of my videos are in ASL because that is the language I cherish, and they all have English captions because I don't want anyone to feel left out Whether you are just scratching the surface of learning ASL or you are fluent, I want everyone who is interested in learning more about my culture and language to have access

Tell us about your published book What do you hope women take away from your short stories collection?

I have published short stories but not a book (yet) I have written stories about my life growing up, as well as fictional stories The last two stories I have published have centered around Deafness and showing people the positives of being different I want women to see each other as people who deserve kindness and respect regardless of their abilities

You have dived into the YouTube world Can you share a little about what your audience can expect from "The Sassy Baker"?

My audience can expect to learn how to make some scrumptious desserts with a whole lotta sass! I also want my audience to learn some ASL and Deaf culture along the way My blog posts aim to educate people with baking tips and Deaf life tidbits Deaf culture is deeply rooted in pride, and I want to showcase that however I can

What do you hope women take away from your brand?

Baking is nothing to be intimidated of -- it's fun, especially in the company of others who also want to learn I also want women to feel empowered to be sassy and messy Last but not least, I hope that women see the value in knowing another language and, in turn, create an inviting and inclusive space for the Deaf community

Where do you hope to see your brand in the next 3-5 years?

I hope to see my brand scale to the point of having an overflowing library of baking videos in every category so people all over the world can learn how to bake it with sass!

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

To me, this means a woman who is not afraid to get their hands dirty - doing the work that is required to succeed It also means being determined and tough and not letting anything get in the way of dreams and desires We are more than just a pretty face - we have grit to get the job done

What services do you provide?

Image Consultancy being one of my portfolios in business, I offer a range of Image Architecture services to both male and female professionals (corporate and non-corporate employees, middle managers, and upper-level executives and entrepreneurs) It's all about refining one's image, and I like to have a holistic approach to clients' image enhancement.

Recently, I procured a range of photoshoot and wardrobe styling/branding services for someone who is in the field of Education but is also an entrepreneur as a Reiki practitioner She was so impressed and satisfied with how in-depth my work was, both before her photoshoot and during the photoshoot I'd also booked and coordinated everything for her with the Glam Team and studio I like including services that reduce or totally eliminate a client's stress levels

The second portfolio in my business centers around Public Relations and Communications, where I'm a Public Relations & Communications Strategist and Communications Journalist. In a nutshell, my focus is to conceptualize contemporary and creative strategies and concepts for organizations in order to achieve a sound goaloriented level of success with online and offline efforts, initiatives, and projects and not have them 'throw darts in the dark' due to lack of knowledge and direction.

The journalism side deals with writing news articles, special features, speeches, Press Releases, Crisis Management correspondence, preparing Media Kits, etc I also provide ghostwriting services for short publications

I'm also the Director For Communications at the Global Chamber of Business Leaders (GCBL), headquartered in Switzerland, and the Global Chair - Public Relations & Strategic Communications within the Ishkama Global Change CIC organization, which is based in the United Kingdom.

From my observations with strangers, colleagues, and associates and even my own desires as to what I'd like to offer, I decided to make the following Image Consultancy services available:

Public Speaking

Wardrobe Styling & Wardrobe Branding

Media Interview Training

Photoshoot Coaching & On-Set Direction

(Headshots/Full-Length Personality Images)

Body Language Coaching (Confidence)

Personal Branding Architecture

Head-To-Toe Makeovers

The wardrobe styling and branding (yes, there's a difference) and photoshoot services are geared toward female professionals and entrepreneurs. The other services cater to both males and females My targeted clientele for entrepreneurs and certain professionals are consultants, coaches, other service-based solopreneurs, attorneys, middle managers, supervisors, and Csuite executives

Both local and foreign clients have access to these services. The virtual world has allowed for even more opportunities within recent times to help clients from various parts of the world Therefore, a client can benefit from virtual coaching or consultancy facilitated by me

Even if women or men are from different countries and might have dissimilar cultures, we are still human at the core and have some commonalities that need to be addressed, changed, or refined

When did you realize you held a passion for PR?

I'd have to say that, apparently, it was an unknown inclination at the beginning. It was only after I got exposed to Business Protocol while doing a joint Course in that area of studies and Event Planning and Management, and then when I was ready to 'open the doors' of my business, that I realized I had an affinity for it since my childhood, really

I was always fascinated by showbiz as it was called, now more commonly referred to as the entertainment industry I would read countless entertainment magazines and publications, not only noting the 'what' of the content but also the underlying aspects of it I paid attention to what public personalities, celebrities, editors, publicists, and even media and paparazzi entities said and did through stories, articles, and columns I didn't realize it then, but I was actually informally studying the industry and field of work Over the years, working with different types of clients provided me with a variety of unique experiences No two clients are the same, so every new encounter is refreshing. I'm never bored.

In my adulthood, my interest in P.R. kept growing When I started my business, Au Courant EventZ, I decided to offer services in the areas of Event Management and Public Relations I felt that there was a great possibility that clients could benefit from both categories, either on an individual or combined basis The decision paid off! Fortunately, I booked several clients who wanted both sets of services for their projects

Throughout the six years that I've been in this field professionally, I've grown to enjoy P.R. even more It's exciting to me My Corporate Media and Entertainment careers saw me as a prime-time Radio Personality, Television Talk Show Host, Magazine Columnist for a national media entity, Television Actress, Event Host, Ad Campaign Producer, and Branding Strategist My career before that was in Executive Administration Everything I did has lent to my prowess in my current fields in some way, shape, or form Although I began doing Entertainment P.R. and Business/Corporate P.R. several months ago, I decided to focus only on Business and Corporate P R

What are the benefits of having an Image Coach?

Dealing with an Image Consultant should entitle someone to highly personalized concepts, advice, and ideas Assistance and guidance should not be generic.

So, one major and significant benefit is that a person's issues or challenges will be dealt with according to their personal and specific needs That's why an initial consultation is imperative. It's for me to find out what they find challenging but also for me to discern, among other things, in which areas they need enhancement or to improve So, that beneficial aspect is having someone who understands all of the complementary factors needed for the service categories.

Another benefit is that an Image Consultant can provide one-on-one personal branding guidance for your field For example, no two attorneys are the same No two beauty practitioners are the same No two executives or managers, or Coaches are the same Even if they have similar styles, complexion, height, size, personality, etc., they would require their own key guidelines

When it comes to body image, an Image Consultant can help clients understand their body type so that they'll know the best types and styles and colors of clothing, accessories, and even shoe styles to purchase. This is fundamentally important We can't always go with what's trending or what we found to be cute on a friend

Additionally, as an Image Consultant, the more you get to know your client, the more you get to understand them, and this can clue you in to factors that can be or should be considered when conceptualizing their scope of work. Having knowledge of Branding, Advertising, and Marketing with thirteen years of experience has assisted me with clients in immeasurable ways With entrepreneurs, I can advise them and include branding, advertising, and marketing principles because, at the end of the day, they're selling themselves to potential customers, clients, and associates, right? So, all of these things should be included in a client's concepts.

What would you say is your purpose in life?

In 2016, just before I began my entrepreneurial journey, I realized that my purpose was to uplift, inspire and motivate people At first, I thought of it as something on a personal level, but as time went by, I realized that I could also achieve this within my professional life

I love seeing people win! I love encouraging others. I love speaking life into people and trying to steer them towards seeing the positive side of things and the greatness within themselves that they can showcase and in which they can revel I want them to know that in spite of challenges, setbacks, closed doors, delays, etc , there's always another chance, a new path, or a good season approaching. It's not lost on me how support, encouragement, and even a simple compliment can boost someone's morale. There is a quote that says that people might forget what you did, but they'll never forget how you made them feel When you know or have been told that you impacted someone positively - and especially for a lifetime - it's both humbling and gratifying

What advice would you give to someone who suffers from a lack of confidence?

Both men and women experience this on different levels It is sometimes quite difficult to chip away at people's wall of baggage when it comes to a lack of confidence Then, there are those who are affected quickly and positively into gaining more confidence

Two pieces of advice that I'll give are: Give yourself grace with the process of becoming more confident. Most people will not go from 0 to 100 with progress That's because it's a process for many. It truly takes time to reach that level of freedom that is unbridled selfconfidence

The other piece of advice would be to please get professional help if your lack of confidence is deep-rooted and cemented, especially from traumatic experiences. Seek the services of a therapist, life coach, psychologist, or psychiatrist if your issues go very deep

You see, if someone has unpacked baggage that significantly weighs them down, it doesn't and would not matter how much better they dress, how attractive their online content is, how many opportunities they get, and so on. There will always be confidence lacking because they're treating the surface stuff and not the root

I always say I cannot 'sell' what I don't have If I didn't have confidence, how could I convince a client that I could influence them into operating with confidence and authority? At least, that's how I look at it

In your opinion, what fashion pieces should every woman own?

A common and general styling tip is to have classic pieces - pencil skirts, trousers, blouses or shirts, blazers, or jackets in colors with which you can mix and match This is definitely a tip to which I subscribe You truly don't need to have a walk-in closet full of clothing. You can shop smartly This can be neutral colors (which are usually recommended) or brighter colors if that fits your personal style more Neutral colors include shades of black, brown, cream, white, khaki, tan, navy blue, etc

Nowadays, mixing and matching bright colors is trending, especially for those who live in countries that experience Spring and Summer. So, even if you aren't a fan of going 'totally bright,' you can incorporate some bright-colored pieces to add a pop of color to your ensembles

One of my personal tips for fashion pieces would be that every woman should own accessories that can complement her ensembles, whether they are statement pieces or demure pieces - necklaces, rings, hand accessories, earrings Accessories help amp up your attire and give a complete look You just need to know what would work for you in general and, yes, even with some outfits, specifically

A bonus tip I'd share is to buy several colors of a particular style, especially if you'd like or wouldn't mind a uniform style for work or business. This option can work wonders for you! It's convenient and economical in the end
