The Seniors went down by 3 points to West Gambier last week in an arm wrestle. Goalkickers we're Fraze with 2 and singles to Hamish McRae, Hags and Harry Gibbs. They certainly had theirchances, sotherewould be more positives than negatives coming out of the coaches' post match review Clintcontinuedhisgreatform and led from the front all day with a relentless attack on the ball Fish and Hamish McRae also continued their good form. Dyl Tincks was exemplary with his attack at the ball and thirst for contestedfooty. Kalmopped up across half back and initiated several counter attacks forward. Tunks also had plenty of the ball to roundoutthebestplayers.
The Rezzies were in touch with 10 minutes to go. The scoreboarddoesn'tliebuta5 goal margin did not reflect

the contest for most of the game Injuries affected availability pre-game and further injuries depleted any positional flexibility as the gamewenton.Diggakicked3 goals and Josh kicked 2. Best players were Brad, Nat, Withers, Scruff, Digga and Goose.
Shaun Withers plays his 50th this week. It's great to see him back after a lot of time outofthegame.
Many thanks to Organisers, Sponsors,BiddersandBuyers at the Goods and Services Auction and a very special mention to our outstanding auctioneerWillChay

VRound15sawusplayourlasthome game for all teams, v Casterton Sandford, noting we are hosting the1stseminextweek.
Some early morning rain and a full days play saw Vansittart Park turn frompristineconditionsintoamud heap, the likes we haven’t seen for quite a few years. Most players were happy to hear we wouldn’t trainontheovalduringtheweek!
The U14s kicked off proceedings with a big win. Well done to the catsforfrontingupeachweek, with limited numbers and size, and to ourplayerswhodonnedthemighty Geelong colours to help them out. Our best players were , Esaie Kulimushi, Sam Baron, Cooper Harris, Penny Coleman, Charles WatersandJamesButler
Fair to say the U16s have had a rough year, and this continued, with the cats being far too strong. Hopefully the boys can stick together over the summer and come back bigger and stronger Awards we given to Cooper Turner, Ben Braithwaite, Chad McLaughlin, AaronDallyandJettDavis.
The reserves started well but then had plenty go against them, including losing Tyler Harris to an ankle injury, which hopefully is not as bad as it looked. On one leg, coach Young was a multiple goal
scorer (a rarity in the ressies this year). Best were named Brayden
Dethmore, Lachlan Tillett and BrodyAllison.
The cats had plenty to play for in the seniors, but we got off to a hot start, only for them to get back into thegameinthe2ndhalftogiveusa scare. A timely reminder that 4 quartersoffootywillberequiredto progress in the finals Our reluctant ruckman Sam Stafford wasagaininthebest, togetherwith our youngest player, Mackye Baron, and others including Jake Schutz, Aaron Dally, Cam Ortlepp andBrettShepherdson.
Today we venture to Millicent and with dead rubbers in most games we will be concentrating on either finishing off the year well and/or preparingforfinals.
With it being some teams last games, get back to the club for the awardsandtea.

Hi all, its finally here the last home game of the year Its been a good long season as the business endjustkicksintogear.
Last week down in Millicent in the second bestbeershedwasasolid day for west with our under 14s getting us under way in a tough day for the kids. As I said e v e r y w e e k t h e improvement is their and its evident in the results. This week is a must win for the 14s this week to endtheyearonahigh.
Our 16s went down in a tough game playing Millicent but again never gave up at all and have the side to play deep finals if they put it together
Our 18s boys had a good day and playing some solid football at the right time of year. The big squad of players are putting together some solid quarters of football
West Gambier West Gambier
now they just have to put italltogether.
Our reserves and seniors playedoutgoodgamesof football and both have some improvements needed to get better Roo has been talking about thatmarkallweeksoheis still on a high and hopefully he lifts them all tocomewithhimthrough thefinals.
Today is a great day for the club with Tom Dolan playing his 300th game for the club. When you h e a r To m ' s n a m e mentioned you never hear a bad word spoken about him. He is a true champion of our club and joins a select list of few to play 300 games at our club.

VLast weekend we played league powerhouse on and off field South
G a m b i e r. We o n l y managed 1 out of 5 wins fortheday
U14s started well but a 7 goal to 0 2nd quarter was the boys downfall but therewaslotsofpositives totakeintonextgame.
Best players Rhys Grigg, CJ Ligairi, Eamon Cook, Jackson Saunders, Taj WhiteandRyanHayden.
U16s played a much bigger south team who dominated most of the game.Theboyshadtimes during the game where they controlled the play but couldn't sustain it long enough to make a real impact on the score board.
B e s t p l a y e r s C r u z M c C r a c k e n , A n d y perryman, Jarvi Mee, Ryan Angelino, Tex Tilley andRileyMitchell.
U18s the guys just didn't have the numbers with half a dozen U16s coming up to fill in the numbers , well done to those lads who put there hands up most weeks to fill in. The guys tried but on the big s o u t h o v a l t h e r e opponents took them to thesword.
Reserves was a good game to watch was probably one of the best games they played all y e a r w i t h M a r k Kieselbach coming out of

retirement to play his 100th game in the red and black The guys played a tough brand of football with Conner Barry playing a lone hand in the ruck was judged best afield followed by Alex Dethmore, Brayden Coppick, Brendan Rees, Tom McCourt and Ben Gaffney
Seniorswithafewinjuries and a suspension came in with an undermanned side. With that gave chances to Dylan Smith and Tyson Shepherd to play there senior debuts. The first half was an inaccurate low scoring affair but a 4 to 2 goal 3rd quarter by South set up a 31 point loss the guys h a v e s h o w n improvementallyear. Best players John Forster, Reece Lillicrap, Giancarlo Cooper, Keenan Dwyer, Sam Lock and Riley Flamank.
This week we play West Gambier AGAIN with the seniors, U18s and u16s playing there last game of the season. The Reserves have locked in a spot in the finals and the u14s play to get in the finals so get there early and cheer themon.
The club will be open from 5 for presentations, senior presentations will be on the 7th of October more information will be outinthecomingweeks.

HUGHBUCKLEY:EAST,CRIBPOINTSTAR
NewhonourforHughBuckley
MOSTlocalfootballsupportersrememberEast Gambier dashing centre half back Hugh Buckleyfromthe1960s.
Buckley arrived at East Gambier in 1963 from Crib Point on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria and immediately became one of the best centre half backs in the South East and Border Football League (in 1963) and from 1964intheWesternBorderFootballLeague.
BuckleyplayedasignificantroleinhelpingEast win its first A grade premiership in 1965 – he was among the Bulldogs’ best right through thatpremiershipcampaign-butbeforethathe had a decorated career with Crib Point and earlier this year was awarded a life membershipofthatfootyclub.
Buckley started playing A grade football with Crib Point at the age of 15 at centre half back where he was up against matured-age opponents, yet because of his height and ability, even at that age he was able to hold his ownandbecameatopplayer
Interestingly, Buckley started playing football with Crib Point at 12 years of age and would turn up to play at the club with his hob-nailed boots – that’s all he had. The trainers would then pull out the hob-nails from the soles and heels of his boots and then insert proper “stops”orsprigsastheywerecalled.Whenthe game was completed, the trainers would then get back to work and pull out the “stops” and re-insertthehob-nailstoBuckley’sbootssohe could ride his bicycle the five miles back to his family home. For those who don’t know, hob nails were a little smaller than the size of a one cent piece, made of steel and nailed into the sole to prevent wear on the leather sole of the boot. Soldiers wore them until more recent times.Therewereasmanyas20inthesoleand heel of each boot, so effectively you were walkingon“steel”
At Crib Point he won the most consistent trophy numerous times and today has a perpetual trophy struck in his name which goes to the player who is deemed the most consistentfortheseason.
At Crib Point, the Buckley name was well-
known. Buckley’ father was a committee member from just after World War Two while Buckley’s brother Robin also played for Crib Point although his career was short Buckley’s son Paul has continued the tradition and has been a trainer withCribPointformanyyears.
Sons James and Daniel both played football whilehisgrandsonalsoplayedforashorttime.
This means that five generations have either played or been involved with the Crib Point FootballClub.
Buckley was a member of Crib Point when the club won its first A grade premiership in 1958 and also when East Gambier won its first premiership in 1963, so Buckley has great historywithbothclubs.
He was awarded Crib Point life membership recently in 2023 and it is understood only two members of the Crib Point premiership team are still alive Surprisingly he was never awardedalifemembershipwithEastGambier, yetservedtheclubwithgreatdistinction.
from opposite directions. As they met headon, the impact broke Buckley’s lower leg and ruined Harrap’s knee and he never played football again. Buckley played again but it that injurydidhamperhiminlateryears.
When Buckley came to Mount Gambier and in following years he became a popular butcher but after retiring from football Buckley learnt howtomassageinjuredplayers.Hisreputation was well-known throughout regional leagues andeventoSANFLandVFLlevel.Ofteninjured league players would knock on his door and seek treatment. In many cases they were back on the track the next day and available the followingSaturday
Anyone who sought treatment with Buckley knew the success he could achieve but if they were asked to describe the treatment their replywouldbeaonewordanswer:“Pain”
In the 1950s Buckley attracted great interest from VFL clubs but because Crib Point wore black and white stripes like Collingwood, his heartwassetonplayingforthe‘Pies. However, rightly or wrongly, he was told because he was not a Catholic his chances of playing at Collingwood were slim. Of course, over the yearsthingschanged.
In the meantime he attracted interest from Hawthorn which sent him two letters encouraging him to try out with the Hawks but hisheartwassetontheblackandwhite.Today, Buckley supports the Crows, mainly because he has now lived in Mount Gambier and South Australia for more than 60 years and believes he should support the SA team. None-the-less there are those at Crib Point who believe BuckleycouldhavemadeitatVFLlevel.
His son Paul also does massage treatment for footballerssothetraditioncontinues. Later, after leaving Crib Point, Buckley became a legend at East Gambier and his play from centre half back won him plaudits from coaches, supporters and opponents. He wore the number 17 guernsey at East with distinction and later that number would also be worn by another champion - full forward DesTrotterinthe1970s.
Buckleybrokehislegtwiceanditthreatenedto endhiscareer Thesecondbrokenlegoccurred in about 1967 when he and North half forward Don Harrap collided as they each tried to kick the ball off the ground, coming at the footy

Ivy Lane and Madalene Cleary have formed a strong shoo ng partnership and while they suffered from a lack of supply last round, they finishedtheopportuni esprovidedaccurately,so if their team mates can provide more ball, the scoreboardwillremainhealthy
Ofcourse, theywillneedtofindawaytogetgood shoo ng posi on under the pressure of Ellie Bouchier and Sophie Wight, and it will also require from hard work from mid courters Chelsey Galpin and Chloe Foster ta take care of ball in hand and be pa ent to find a safe op on in thatshoo ngcircle.
Accuracy will also be important as Bouchier and Wightarestrongrebounders.
The South defenders will also be looking to Megan Reid and Tully McShane to pressure Galpin and Foster, hopefully forcing them into error with their decision making and execu ve to allow Bouchier and Wight the chance to create turnoverball.
At the other end, Caeleigh Humphries and Ebany Jarradhaveformedasoliddefensivecombina on for the Cats and while South shooter Gracie Dalton is strong on the hold, she is not as tall as theplayerstheduohavefacedinrecentweeks.
Dalton has had a stunning debut season in A Grade and she had a strong game against East at theweekend, finishingaccurately, andherpairing with Alyssa Duncan will gtest the young Cats defenders.
Duncan has become the architect of South’s a acking third and her ability to work the angles anduseherstrongdrivesonthefrontcuttogreat effecto enopensupopportuni esforDalton.

It might be the final minor round and both Millicent and North Gambier might have their finals spots locked away but the double chance is on the line at McLaughlin Park, making this a cri calclash.

Mikaila Pi was outstanding last round and she will need to be at her best to command front posi on and force Sanderson into uncomfortable shoo ngposi ons.
Of course pu ng a tall shooter into uncomfortable posi ons is also the task at hand for Millicent as the Saints look to limit the supply toGracePo s.
Por a McRae and Lauren Van Eeden are strong in the air but they will want Lisa Duldig and Paul to pressure North’s quality mid court – Renko and Brianna Walters – as the delivery will be pinpoint ifthereisnopressureontheincomingball. Macey Griffith and her ba le with Van Eeden will be one of the pivotal matchups, with the young goalerbuildingagoodrela onshipwithPo sand alsohappytotakeontheshotwhenrequired.

It will see Amy Cram and Jade Ri er using their height advantage and ability to squeeze space to try and place untold pressure on Renee Henke, Casey Horrigan and Ambah Beveridge, and whichever combina on takes the shoo ng roles for the Bulldogs will need to finish accurately as Cram and Ri er will dominate the rebounding stats.

SOUTHGAMBIERVEASTGAMBIER
South Gambier has finally broken through in 2023 for a win against a team ranked higherontheladder
The Demons set up the victory with a stunning second quarter, which they won 13-4 on the back of a dominant shoo ng performance from Gracie Dalton, and that was enough to set up the eventual eight goalwinningmargin.
The other three quarters were arm wrestles with neither side able to gain an advantage.
Missing Morgan Amy, Sharna McKinnon again took the goal keeper bib for East, combining well with Bo Creek, as both sides had all their defensive wares on show, with mother-daughter combina on, Brandi and Ellie Bouchier, applying strong pressureaswellattheotherend, including the second quarter where they limited the Bulldogs to six scoring shots, conver ng onlyfour
In such a ght defensive stoush, the workratefromthemidcourtwasimmense as they looked to find a way through the court and East’s Tarsh McCallum did not stop running and presen ng to try and drag her side back into the contest with Sophie Wight and RubyRichter also having to do a power of work to find their goalers inspace.
A er the disastrous second quarter, East injected Ambah Beveridge into the goal a ack role, her second A Grade berth for the year, moving Casey Horrigan to wing a ack and McCallum into the centre and while the changes se led East, the Bulldogs were never able to recover from theninegoaldeficitinthesecond.
Alyssa Duncan was cri cal in the second half for the Demons as her composure and class shone through to ensure she and her young team mates maintained the rage andsecuredthepremiershippoints.

While the final margin was six, very li le separated the two sides across the hard foughtfourquarters.
It was Millicent by one at quarter me and that was also the half me margin as both shooters, Tabatha Sanderson and Sarah Ri er, nailed every scoring opportunity for the quarter – Millicent’s Sanderson conver ng a perfect 14 straight and Ri er ne ng15from15.
At three quarter me the margin was two in favour of the home side and in the end, theSaintsgotthebe erofthefinalstanza, with Sanderson again ne ng a perfect 13 from 13 to ensure Millicent stayed in the raceforatoptwofinish.

The ba le between Lillie Paul and Tara Bryantthroughthemiddleofthecourtwas one for the ages as the two speedy, hard running centres con nually presen ng for theirteammates.

NORTH GAMBIER V C A S T E R T O N SANDFORD
The Tigers started strongly and finished with a bang to secure a strong 76-29 victory over Casterton Sandford at the weekend.
Grace Po s was on fire and strong under the post, conver ng 14 from 15 in the first and an astonishing 21 from 24 to book end astunningshoo ngperformance.
With the excep on of the final quarter, whichtheTigerswon23-7,theCatsba led hard and were compe ve, just suffering from a lack of supply, given the shoo ng accuracy was good, missing only six goals for the match, including seven from seven byMadaleneClearyinthelast.

Mel Renko and Lauran Norman made life tough for the Casterton Sandford feeders and denied them any easy ball, while Mikaila Pi and Noni McConnell were at their ght checking best, also domina ng anyilladvisedaerialfeeds.
Young Cats defenders Ebany Jarrad and Caeleigh Humphries certainly contested well against an onslaught of possession for the Tigers with Jarrad pu ng in her best gameforthe2023season.
