he first case of COVID-19 diagnosed in Latin America occurred on February 26 in Brazil, and involved a traveler from Italy. Since then, the pandemic has been growing on the continent, initially due to people from Europe and the United States, then to cases of contagion. At the close of this edition, 996 confirmed cases had been recorded in Mexico (82), Cuba (4), Dominican Republic (21), Jamaica (12), Guatemala (6), Honduras (8), Costa Rica (41), Panama (69), Colombia (57), Venezuela (33), Guyana (7), Suriname (1), French Guyana (7), Ecuador (58), Peru (86), Brazil (234), Bolivia (11), Paraguay (9), Uruguay (29), Chile (156) and Argentina (65). So far, Mexico, Jamaica, Colombia, Peru, Brazil and Argentina have reported cases of recovery (4, 2, 1, 1, 2 and 3 respectively). Argentina recorded the first death from COVID-19 in the continent, followed by one in Panama: both cases involved 64-year-old men with diabetes. In the case of the Argentine patient, he also had chronic bronchitis and renal failure and, in the case of the Panamanian patient, he additionally suffered from bacterial pneumonia. l primer caso de COVID-19 diagnosticado en América Latina se dio el 26 de febrero en Brasil, se trataba de un viajero proveniente de Italia. Desde entonces la pandemia ha ido creciendo en el continente, inicialmente debido a personas provenientes de Europa y Estados Unidos, luego por casos de contagio. Al cierre de esta edición se han registrado 996 casos confirmados entre México (82), Cuba (4), República Dominicana (21), Jamaica (12), Guatemala (6), Honduras (8), Costa Rica (41), Panamá (69), Colombia (57), Venezuela (33), Guyana (7), Suriname (1), Guyana Francesa (7), Ecuador (58), Perú (86), Brasil (234), Bolivia (11), Paraguay (9), Uruguay (29), Chile (156) y Argentina (65). De momento, México, Jamaica, Colombia, Perú, Brasil y Argentina ha reportado casos de recuperación (4, 2, 1,1, 2 y 3 respectivamente). Argentina registró la primera muerte por COVID-19 en el continente, seguido de una en Panamá: en ambos casos se trató de hombres de 64 años con diabetes. En el caso del paciente argentino, también tenía bronquitis crónica e insuficiencia renal y, en el caso del panameño, adicionalmente padecía una neumonía bacteriana.
