Wave Recorder What is it?

What fish should I target?

The wave recorder is a black and yellow buoy with a black flag. It is put there by the NSW Government Department of Public Works and Manly Hydraulic Lab for purpose of measuring wave heights and direction.

Dolphin Fish and King Fish around the buoy with the occasional Black or Striped Marlin. Snapper, Trag and Pearl Perch on the rocky bottom.

Stay Safe Always travel at a speed safe for the conditions and keep a proper lookout. If you’re traveling at night or if there’s a lot of other boats, slow down.

What bait should I use? Live bait, Pilchards or strip baits on the surface, paternoster rigs for the bottom.

What lures are best?

Where is it? 7.25 nautical miles south east of Coffs Harbour entrance. Wave Recorder. GPS 30. 21. 153. 16

Trolled skirted lures or hard bodies. Soft plastics also work well.

Best time to fish? All year round for the bottom fish and warmer months for the Dolphin fish.

What dream fish might I catch? Large Dolphin fish, little Black Marlin and Striped Marlin.

For the kids

What’s there?

Lots of small Dolphin Fish and Kingfish to keep the kids interested.

Black and yellow buoy with rocky pinnacles and hard ground in the general vicinity.
