The Lump What is it?

What bait should I use?

Rocky reef and hard ground. This spot is definitely not recommended in rough weather.

Fresh baits including pilchards, squid and strip baits fished just off the bottom on a paternoster rig.

Stay Safe Be bright – be safe at night When night falls, it’s a completely different world on the water and so vessels that operate from sunset to sunrise, whether at anchor or underway, must carry and exhibit the correct lights.

Where is it? The Lump is approximately 9.75 nautical miles north east of the harbour entrance. The Lump, GPS 30. 15. 98-153. 208

What’s there? A rocky section of reef approximately 2 miles long and half a mile wide coming up from a depth of 95m to 80m.

Top Tips Have a good selection of heavier sinkers as the current can be quite strong. Christy La Coste

What lures are best? Knife jigs and soft plastics with sufficient weight to get to the bottom which varies dependent on current strength.

Best time to fish? All year round. In Winter the Leather Jacket can be a real problem.

What fish should I target? You should predominately target Snapper, Pearl Perch, Kingfish, Samson Fish and occasional Jewfish.

What dream fish might I catch? Big Snapper, Pearl Perch and the occasional large Jewfish.
