IEMed (European Institute of the Mediterranean)
Founded in 1989, IEMed, the European Institute of the Mediterranean, is an organisation in the form of a consortium made up of the Government of Catalonia, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Barcelona Town Council. Civil society is given a voice by means of its Board of Trustees and Advisory Council, made up of prestigious universities, businesses, organisations and Mediterranean personalities. In line with the objectives of the Euro-Mediterranean Association’s Barcelona Process and, today with those of the Union for the Mediterranean, the goal of IEMed is to encourage actions and projects that contribute towards mutual understanding, exchanges and cooperation between different Mediterranean countries, societies and cultures, as well as to promote the progressive building in the Mediterranean of an area of peace and stability, of shared prosperity and dialogue between cultures and civilisations.
