JÕGEVAMAA ÜLDHARIDUSKOOLIDE ABITURIENTIDE RISKIKÄITUMINE High-risk behaviour of final year students in comprehensive schools in Jõgeva county Kristi Tolk, Eve-Merike Sooväli Abstract The aim of this quantitative empirical research was to describe the highrisk behaviour of final year daytime students in Estonian-speaking comprehensive schools in Jõgeva county, based on their alcohol, drug and tobacco consumption, time spent in front of TV and computer, sexual and traffic behaviour; and find connections with the subjects’ sexes. The tasks of this research are: 1) to describe the high-risk behaviour of final year daytime students in Estonian-speaking comprehensive schools in Jõgeva county, with regard to alcohol, drug and tobacco consumption, and sexual and traffic behaviour; 2) to describe the high-risk behaviour of final year daytime students in Estonian-speaking comprehensive schools in Jõgeva county, with regard to time spent in front of TV and computer; 3) to find connections between the high-risk behaviour and sexes of the final year daytime students in Estonian-speaking comprehensive schools in Jõgeva county. The sample comprised 163 final year students from six comprehensive schools in Jõgeva county. The survey was conducted in September and October of 2011 with a questionnaire that is annexed at the end of this paper. Research showed that at the time of conducting the survey 25,15% of the students were smokers who usually smoked up to 5 cigarettes a day (42,62%), and 23,93% of the students had used drugs. 96,93% of the final year students had consumed alcohol, normally 2 – 3 times a month (54,43%). 37,27% of the final year students always use a reflector in the dark and 93,21% of passangers sitting next to the driver always fasten their seat belts, with 91,36% among backseat passangers and 99,23% among driving students in the driver’s seat. Over the past 12 months, 31,08% of the respondents always used a condom during casual intercourse. 95,71% of the students have not done a HIV-test, mainly because they found it 169
