Nurses Risky Behavior at Work of Shift Work Accompanying, Impact of the Work Environment to This, and Nurses Risky Health Behavior as a Negative Example for Patients Triin Sellik, Sirje Sammul Abstract The nursing profession is accompanied by long working days, night work and in addition, caring for the patients is accompanied by various stressors. Stressors foster risky health behaviours at work, manifested in poor food choices, smoking and low physical activity. The work environment significantly influences the health behaviour of nurses. The final thesis was a literature review aimed to describe the risky health behaviour among nurses associated with shift work and the work environment’s impact on behaviour, aa well as the nurses’ risky health behaviour as a negative example for patients. The research was based on 28 sources, out of which 23 were scientific articles. After graduating from a higher education institution, nurses are aware of health-promoting activities, so nurses often set an example for the general public by their health behaviour. Nurses understand that they are more aware of good health behaviour standards. However, this is accompanied by an obligation to demonstrate a healthy lifestyle, which causes stress among nurses. At the same time, nurses have admitted that they feel hypocritical when they recommend the patients such health behaviours that they do not follow themselves.
