the HALLANT Sisters 4 personalities, 1 objective - 4 karakters, 1 leven The four sisters grew up in La Clusaz and are all instructors with the French Ski School. They each have their own personality but have unfailing good humour in common. The four good-natured sisters told us about their trips to distant lands in and around La Clusaz.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE TRIP THAT INSPIRED YOU THE MOST?
WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO SURF ON HOLIDAY?
Lydie: The 5 months I spent in Santa Monica in California at the ocean for my final placement at the end of my studies and the people I met there. I chose when I went, which meant I was there for summer in California: I could go to work by bike then jog along the beach or play football with my flatmates and surf at the weekends!
Lydie: For me, it’s always Hossegor. We have family there and my sisters have spent many summers there which means there’s always somewhere to stay.
Élise: I took a plane and went to Fuertevantura in the Canary Islands by myself. I rented a car and spent my days surfing, chilling out on the beach and walking on the volcanos. That’s when I realised that when you travel alone, it’s easier to meet new people and be ready for adventure yet have time by yourself to reflect on life. Adèle: Mexico still for me. It was the first time I took a flight over 3 hours. We chose the Pacific coast and I backpacked with a friend to find beautiful spots to surf. We weren’t disappointed… Emma: Australia. We did a sort of road trip along the west coast in a campervan we rented over there. At every stop the landscape was different, we saw kangaroos, whales and awe-inspiring beaches, and I was lucky to share the experience with my sister Élise.
Élise: Anywhere with good waves, as long as it’s not too cold and there’s a good atmosphere. I have great memories of being in pretty poor waves but surrounded by really cool and inspiriting surfers (and dolphins) but also the perfect conditions in Indonesia for amazing sessions where everyone is loving it. Emma: Morrocco, I haven’t been there much, but I’d really like to go back ! COULD YOU TELL US ABOUT A PARTICULAR DISH THAT YOU HAVE DISCOVERED ON YOUR TRIPS? Emma: Couscous ! We often cook it as a family, especially on Sundays when we all get together. Lydie: I was going to say red curry soup, but Emma’s answer has inspired me so I’ll say chicken tajine. Élise: Even if I haven’t been to Vietnam, I love Vietnamese cooking, banh mi and bao bun, so fresh, tasty and healthy. But let’s be honest, nothing can replace the taste of a good Tomme fermière, makes my mouth water! Adèle: I loooooove sushi ! I love making them too, I’m not an expert but my family and friends enjoy them.

WHEN YOU GET HOME FROM A TRIP, WHERE DO YOU LIKE TO GO IN LA CLUSAZ TO TO RE-ENERGISE? Lydie: My parents’ house. I generally find at least one of my sisters there. We eat, rest and play word games together. Élise: When I come back from a trip, I love coming back to the family home, I spend a lot of time there because I’m very close to my parents and sisters. Adèle: First home, but I always end up in a bar with friends and a good beer. Emma: I think at the Beauregard reservoir. The view is amazing as the sun goes down with a small barbecue, good beer and some friends! COULD YOU TELL US YOUR BEST SKIING MEMORY IN LA CLUSAZ? Lydie: It sounds silly now that everyone has ski mountaineering equipment, but my best memory was about 10 years ago with my sister Élise. We climbed the Etale with our skis on our back in almost a metre of snow in November instead of going to our ski studies. It was a struggle but we had so much fun. We even made a video. We were the forerunners!
