Letter from the SLC Board President

The lake is open for business!

Board activities

Kevin Beck has been working with several government agencies to complete the dam and secondary spillway project, as well with the Lake Quality and Environment Committee to ensure the integrity of Lake Sherwood.

Megan Clay has been busy putting together the itinerary for a great 4th of July weekend.

Jo Hunt has been working to upgrade the Sherwood website and has been working with Aline Barrett preparing a “Sherwood Directory” to be distributed to the membership. Jo has been keeping the board current on the budget, revenue and expenses, while Aline is keeping the board legal.

Kurt Bossert organized the Clean-Up Day in April and has secured another year of complete and affordable insurance for the Lake Club.

Mike Morse is finalizing the last details for Sherwood Ski Lessons to be offered this summer to the membership.

Kerry O’Neal, with assistance from Jeff Handley, has purchased and will implement installation of safety cameras at the beach and boat ramp.

Rob Seitz is working hard to make sure the boats, docks and shorelines at Sherwood are safe, up-todate and built according to the regulations.

Your board is ensuring that the Sherwood Lake Club is financially sound and ready for a fun season.

Lake Sherwood Manager/Lake Patrol

The Sherwood Club Manager and Lake Patrol are employed by the Sherwood Lake Club Board of Directors to make sure the club facilities (clubhouse, beach, boat ramp, etc.) are in good repair and all the facilities and lake are safe for you and your family.

The manager is not responsible for replying or taking care of Lake Policy issues or nuisances that you might have a complaint about. Those should come to me, and I will pass them on to the appropriate board member. The Lake Patrol is here for the safety of using the lake, but not as “police.” The Lake Patrol has been directed to politely ask the members to follow the rules and if the violations continue, to report to the Board of Directors. The rules are in place and will be enforced. If you disagree with a rule or regulation, bring your ideas to the board. We will listen to all reasonable suggestions.

We appreciate your help and cooperation. Have a wonderful safe and fun summer at Lake Sherwood!

Letter from the Lake Manager

Hello Sherwood Lake Club members. I hope you had a wonderful fall and winter. However, summer and the warm weather is here. Local pools and other warm weather public facilities have already opened or will be opened soon. Sherwood lake and beach are open and ready for business.

Furthermore, as the boating season begins, always pay attention and watch for swimmers and downed skiers. Give notice to the no wake buoys and obey the rules that they represent. Also keep in mind, sound waves travel four times faster over water than land, so keep the music on your boat at a reasonable volume, especially at night. It is a good idea for new and old members alike to review the rules of our lake on the SLC website. Just go to the “Sherwood Lake Club” website, click on “Prospective Members,” scroll down and click on “Rules of Sherwood Lake Club.” Boating and swimming rules are found under index E & I. This information helps make our lake fun and safe.

The boater safety course was offered twice in May, on the 3rd and 24th. It was taught by Zoom, so participants could relax at home while taking the class. The class was about an hour in length followed by a short quiz that was emailed to the participants. If you and your family missed the opportunity in May and need to take the class, then contact me at (785) 221-3248 or Joe Anderson at office@ sherwoodlakeclub.org. We prerecorded the May 24th class, and it will be available online in the future.

Thank you to the Lake Quality and Environment Committee (LQEC) who has over the winter spent many hours working diligently on several issues concerning the care of the lake. The LQEC members have embraced the lake club’s guiding principle: “The Sherwood Lake Club will provide great, safe recreation for our members, and outstanding beauty and quality in our facilities for our members and our neighborhood. We will seek improved property and membership values in everything we do.” On that note, I would like to say farewell to Warren Schmidgall and his wife who have contributed immensely to LQEC. They are moving to the Pacific Northwest to be closer to their family. They will be missed.

Travis Hirt will be head of the Lake Safety/Courtesy Patrol in 2023. Most of you know, Travis is a B member and grew up at Lake Sherwood on Wattling Court. He is an employed civilian of the Department of Homeland Security in the US Coast Guard. You will usually see Travis with his wife, Tracy, who is a social studies teacher at French Middle School. They spend many hours working together at the beach. Dirk Moss and Brad Hopper will also be returning this

year. Brad will work on an “on-call” basis only Monday through Friday on the AM shift. Kyler Gronewaller was just hired this spring. Kyler is a WRHS graduate and a student at Washburn University. He is majoring in business and conveniently lives just a few doors down from the beach. The Safety/Courtesy Patrol is in place to help keep our lake free from zebra mussels and maintain safety on the lake.

New hours of the Lake Safety/Courtesy-Patrol:

A. Monday-Friday: 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Staff are ON CALL only. If you need to launch your boat at this time or need assistance of some other kind, call (785) 221-2628 and someone will meet you at the ramp.

B. Monday-Friday: 2:30 to 9:30 p.m. The patrol will be at the beach ready to serve you.

C. Saturday-Sunday: 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The patrol will be at the beach all day ready to be of service.

Launching your vessel: When you want to launch your boat, please call first (785) 221-2628. That way the patrol, if absent from the beach, can return to help you. Before launching your boat, the Lake Safety/Courtesy-Patrol will do an annual safety inspection. Please be sure to have USCG-approved fire extinguisher along with an appropriate number of life preservers. If you are a skier, be sure to have a Skier Down Flag.

Rule reminders as printed in the last Scene: Now that spring/summer is here, please review the boating rules and regulations as you begin the 2023 season. Some highlights are as follows.

All boats and PWC must be registered with proper SLC numbers displayed on the hull.

• Wake Surfing: Please review the wake surfing rules

4 Sherwood Scene January-March 2023

& regulations located under Section I, number #4 of the SLC Boating Rules.

• The entire lake is a “No Wake Zone” from dusk to dawn. The RED light on the east end of the dam will indicate the beginning of the No Wake Zone at the end of the day.

• Please use the lake in a counterclockwise direction. Speed limit is 35 mph.

• All boaters, skiers and passengers must have a CGA personal floatation device.

• When a skier or tuber is down, please display the skier down RED FLAG while they remain in the water. Once the skier or tuber is back up, the flag should be put away.

• Remember that guest boats of any kind are not allowed on Lake Sherwood. This includes kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, towables and inflatable islands. The purpose of the rule is to avoid the zebra mussel pandemic that has plagued northeast Kansas. Our lake is one of the few that does not have a zebra mussel infestation. It will be to the profit of all Sherwood members to make this priority number one.

• No Wake Zones: Please note that the tall white cylinder buoys and the red ball shaped buoys indicate the “No Wake Zones” of our lake. Homeowners on the lake get extremely frustrated

when these NO Wake Zones are not observed by all boaters. Their shoreline can be damaged, and most importantly swimmers may be in the water behind these buoys, so please slow down.

• SWIMMING: Is only allowed behind the No Wake Buoys.

• Please be aware: The tennis courts and sand volleyball courts are Sherwood Lake Club Property. Please help to maintain them by picking up trash, shutting the gates and leaving the area in good condition. Also, remember that the courts are closed at dusk/dark. It will also be very much appreciated that no foul language be used while participating in activities on the courts. Please consider and be courteous to the neighbors that live nearby.

• FYI: If you are in need of a new beach access card, contact Joe Anderson or myself. manger@ sherwoodlake.org or offic@sherwoodlakeclub.org. New cards are $15 each.

In conclusion, the SLC staff and I are excited to serve the Sherwood community. So, have fun, be safe, and happy summer.

Dam Rehabilitation Project (SLC)

Prior to March 14, the permitting plan sets have been completed and submitted to the Kansas Division of Water Resources for review and permit approval, as well as the Kansas Water Office for their submittal for FEMA construction funds. In the interim, we are working with BG Consultants on easements needed to complete the work, and

permit applications are prepared for submittal to the Army Corps of Engineers and Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

We remain optimistic to receive construction funding in September.

Sewer Rehab/Pump Station Replacement (Shawnee County)

The sewer rehabilitation project is going to be rebid in the coming months to find a new contractor.

The pump station project is awaiting materials for

the pumps, and once materials delivery information is available, the construction schedule will be confirmed.

Siltation Ponds Angler’s Corner

One of the two siltation ponds still has some work to be completed, and we are working on schedule to get it done. The second remains on hold, and we continue to work with the engineer on this design.

We plan to stock walleye this year. The best time to stock walleye is November, so we are working with the supplier to nail down a date.

We still need help with the 4th fishing contest. It involves the weigh-in, trophy awards and pictures. It is a good opportunity to meet our neighbors. Please contact Kerry O’Neal at 785-221-3889 or Megan Clay if you would like to be involved.

Intro of 2023 Lake Patrol

Travis Hirt will once again be head of Lake CourtesyPatrol this season. Travis is a B member and grew up at Lake Sherwood. He is an employed civilian of Department of Homeland Security in the US Coast Guard. Travis married his wife, Tracy, (a social studies teacher at French Middle School) last summer, and they now reside on Wattling Court.

Dirk Moss will also be returning this year. Dirk grew up in Topeka and left in 1972 to attend Wichita State University. He completed his B.S. and master’s degree. He spent 44 years in south central and western Kansas. He retired in 2016 after spending 40 years in the criminal justice field and teaching college. He and his wife returned to Topeka in 2016. He is an active fly fisherman and belongs to two fly fishing clubs – one in Kansas City and the other in Wichita. He also does woodworking.

Bradley Hopper has joined the lake patrol team on an “on-call” basis. Growing up at Lake Sherwood, he has found great joy in being a part of the community and having fun skiing and hanging out on the water with great friends. This joy has led him to want to help continue to grow the lake. While not helping out with lake patrol, Bradley owns a medical device company, where he and his team are developing a series of medical injection safety devices. He and his fiancée, Talisa, are excited to be a part of the Lake Sherwood community and look forward to a bright future at the lake.

Kyler Gronewaller is a proud new member of the Sherwood Lake patrol! He is enrolled at Washburn University, where he has just completed his first full academic year. He is majoring in business management at Washburn, then potentially heading to K-State to further his education. He is looking forward to his first summer as lake patrol and hopes to see many new and familiar faces this year.

Spring Clean-Up Report

Another annual spring clean-up day took place on Saturday, April 22, with the help of several members that came ready to work with gloves and rakes in hand.

As clean-up day indicates, volunteer members picked up trash and debris that had accumulated over the winter months.

The main emphasis was centered around the club house, and at the beach. Trash was picked up, leaves raked, walnuts removed and downed tree branches hauled off, as well as flower beds cleaned and re-mulched. This was all accomplished in under two hours with the outstanding help from our membership.

Food Trucks

Food trucks are once again returning to the beach. We are happy to have various food trucks coming to our beach to serve up delicious food for our members. We are trying to schedule one truck per week. Most will be on Wednesday evenings from 5-8 p.m. but not exclusively. A reminder email with menu will be sent out the morning of.

Please walk, drive, bike or boat over to the beach and enjoy a delicious dinner with old friends or new, or take it to go. More trucks will be added as the summer progresses.

May 31 (Wed.) – Bobby’s Food Co.

As people arrived, they were either asked to help in specific areas or they just jumped in and started helping where it appeared help was needed; thus, it is hard to know everyone who volunteered and helped. We did have more members volunteer than in most years past.

Thank you to all those that participated and helped in making your clubhouse and area shine.

Lake manager Jeff Handley did another great job in setting this up and overseeing it.

Thanks again to all those who helped!

Remembering Keith Olson

Longtime member Keith Olson passed away at the age of 79 on March 12, 2023, after a short illness. Keith was born and raised in Salina, Kansas. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in accounting.

While at Kansas State, Keith met the love of his life, Dea Brown, and they married shortly after graduation. The couple settled in Kansas City before moving to Topeka with their young children, Cami and Tyler.

In 1977, they moved to a beautiful saltbox-style home on Aylesbury Road and filled it with family heirlooms, including art, hooked rugs (many handhooked by Dea) and early American antiques. Dea’s background was in interior design, and stepping into their home was like entering a museum. Their collection of hand-blown vintage Christmas ornaments was magnificent.

The home has a large potbelly wood-burning stove in the living room, which was often used as their

primary source of heat in the winter. Their yard was beautiful. On nice days, Keith and Dea spent hours planting, weeding and enjoying being outdoors together.

The Olsons loved to entertain, and on nice evenings in boating season, you could spot them out on their pontoon with a group of friends. Keith spent his career as a CPA and retired as a partner of Mize CPA’s Inc.

Keith and Dea loved their KSU Wildcats and were avid and generous supporters. They held season football and basketball tickets for decades and attended almost every home game with lifelong friends and neighbors.

They were involved in countless volunteer activities and were dearly loved in the Topeka community. Dea has relocated to Prairie Village, Kansas, to be near her daughter and family. Tyler and Tammy Olson reside in Florida. Dea and Keith were so very proud of their kids and four grandkids. They will be missed at Lake Sherwood, and we wish Dea all the best!

February 2023 Meeting Minutes

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE SHERWOOD LAKE CLUB, INC. BOARD OF DIRECTORS

February 27, 2023

The regular meeting of the Sherwood Lake Club, Inc. Board of Directors was held Monday, February 27, 2023 at the Sherwood Lake Clubhouse. President Tom McBride called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Tom McBride, Kerry O’Neal, Kurt Bossert, Aline Barrett, Rob Seitz (via phone), Kevin Beck, Megan Clay and Jo Hunt. STAFF MEMBERS

PRESENT: Jeff Handley, Joe Anderson

1. MEMBERS/PUBLIC COMMENT: Members present: Joy Dodd, Randy McAllister, Chuck Towle, Allan Towle

2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The Board approved the minutes as presented of the January 23, 2023 Regular Board Meeting. Motion made by Kerry O’Neal, seconded by Megan Clay. Motion carried.

The Board approved the minutes as presented of the January 24, 2023 Annual SLC Stockholders Meeting. Motion made by Kurt Bossert, seconded by Jo Hunt. Motion carried.

3. REPORTS:

(a) PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Tom McBride made the presentation. H e had the chance to meet with all members of the board and staff throughout the previous month one thing he would like to make note of is that he appreciates the respect that is shared by all members of the board and the employees. Board Members are engaged throughout the month following the meeting, which is vital for the Board to be successful and accountable to each other and the membership as a whole. He gathered some very good information in his discussion w/ Megan Clay. She shared with him that she would like to see more engagement/involvement for B members. She has brought up events like movie nights in the past but nothing has really gained much ground. She would like to see that get some traction in 2023. There are other events like food trucks that continue to be popular, we just need to use those events to publicize other events to our members so we are not tied solely to sending out electronic communication to members to publicize these new events.

Megan also shared with Tom a One Can, One Kid organization here in Topeka that provides turkey dinners to families in need around Thanksgiving each year. They collect aluminum cans from throughout the city from people who call and ask for pickups and then use the proceeds from turning in these cans and getting cash for them. Megan would like to see the lake club purchase a couple of barrels of some sort to collect cans at the beach and at the clubhouse Megan has offered to paint them and put the logo of the organization on the cans to identify why we are doing this to help them out. It was decided to either purchase barrels or hopefully use barrels we have in our storage unit at Webco that would work as well. We will place 1 barrel at the beach and 1 barrel at the clubhouse. Information will be communicated to the membership once they are placed and Megan will work with the One Can One Kid organization to coordinate pickup as it is needed throughout the year.

Road Maintenance (SW Nottingham)

On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, subject to weather, work will begin on SW Nottingham Road from a point approximately 200 feet south of SW 33rd Street to a point approximately 200 feet north of SW 37th Street. Work will consist of removing the existing deteriorated asphalt pavement surface and a portion of the underlying subgrade material. Following this work, the contractor will stabilize the remaining subbase and place an 8-inch-thick base mat of compacted crushed rock. The contractor will then complete the work by placement of a new 8-inch-thick mat of hot-mix asphaltic concrete pavement and applying new pavement striping.

Tom also discussed with Aline that we need to get a New Member Welcome packet put together. Both her and Kurt feel this will be very beneficial to help provide more value to new members when they join the lake club. Aline will work on this and bring back to the board some ideas This also brought up getting a new directory printed for membership. Aline is going to get some pricing information on what it will cost to print the new directory and bring it back to the board. Information will be curtailed a bit compared to what has been provided in the past. It will only include subsets of the by-laws, not the full set of them. This will include at a minimum boat and dock regulations and zebra mussel information. We will also send a blast out to members asking to make sure their information on the database is current prior to the directory going to print to ensure that all information in the directory is as current as possible.

Nottingham Road reopened to unrestricted traffic by close of business Friday, August 11, 2023.

SW Nottingham Road, including the intersections with SW Fountaindale Road and SW Sherwood Court, will be CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC for the duration of the project.

Tom identified the need to have a roadmap of what we are going to do/accomplish over the next 3 years/ would be a rolling 3 year outline; will incorporate our strategic planning vision for our membership This will help the membership to understand the direction of the board, the lake club as a whole, and what will be asked of membership over that time period. More communication on the vision and direction of the lake club will provide more value to the membership, which is definitely a good thing.

The intersections at SW 33rd and Nottingham Road and SW 37th and Nottingham Road will remain open while work on SW Nottingham Road is under construction.

He closed with indicating that he would like to have the members of the board and their spouses over to gather at their house to get to know each other. More info will come on this next month as the weather starts to warm up.

This project has been bid as a Contract Date Contract, and as such, the project must be complete and SW

Access to properties immediately adjacent to SW Nottingham Road will be provided during construction.

He also mentioned that the goose egg oiling permit was filed, will be received back in the clubhouse in the next couple of weeks at which time they will begin oiling any eggs that are found throughout the lake.

(g) DIRECTORS’ REPORT:

Kevin: Dam Maintenance Project: They had a meeting w/ SLC members affected by the work that will be done at the Auxiliary spillway regarding current dock structures. In discussion, it was agreed that upon that there would be conditional permit filed along with this project details that would allow the current dock structures and shoreline to remain as is and not require any additional work to be done to these areas in order for it to meet state guidelines for this type of spillway area. There will be communication in the permit that releases any responsibility of DWR, KWO, Shawnee County, KS and/or the State of Kansas from being liable if any of the dock structures are damaged due to flooding and water rushing out of the auxiliary spillway in the future.

Kevin also mentioned that when work is done on the primary spillway alter on this year, it will require Nottingham Road to be under construction. In discussion w/ the County, they will be working on this portion of Nottingham Road this summer when school is out. There is hope that the work that we need to be done for the spillway can also be done at that time so we don’t have to have the road closed during the school year when the work for the dam project is done later on in 2023. There are continuing discussions about this and he will keep the Board up to speed on any developments regarding this matter.

Finally, he mentioned that Sediment Basin #3 Construction has been halted due to some issues with a property owner/SLC member. They are having a meeting on 3/6/23 to discuss. The SLC member, CF&S, and Kevin Beck will be there to discuss and hopefully get all on the same page so work can continue on the construction of this basin.

LQEC: Update provided by Randy McAllister – Basin #1 has been constructed, Basin #2 is near completion, Basin #3 is on hold due to issues previously mentioned by Kevin, Basin #4 has been constructed by SID. It was also mentioned that the wattles have been deployed. Thanks to all that helped get this done and also that are helping with the “Wattle Watch” program they have put in place to insure that the wattles are as effective into the spring months as well.

Kurt: Insurance: He has requested invoices from the insurance company prior to the March meeting so we can get payments approved as they are due by 5/1/23

Property: The SLC Annual Clean Up Day has been scheduled for 4/22/23; with a rain date of 4/29/23

Members who have signed up via the volunteer sheet are being shared with Kurt, who will reach out to coordinate the days event and make sure all are made aware of what to wear, bring, etc. He is working on a list of projects/work that needs to be done on that day, but it won’t be as bad as years past since Tracy Lynch has stepped up and done a lot of the work himself throughout the winter months.

Aline: By-laws: Working on compiling a list of 3rd party companies that we do business with them. She believes we should have a general contract with those companies so we can hold them to the guidelines of the contract when they are doing work for SLC. She will put some forms together and bring back to the board for discussion at a future meeting.

Kerry: Nothing to report at this time

Jo: Website: Nothing to report at this time

Mike: Club Liaison: Nothing to report as he was absent from the meeting

Megan: 4th of July: She will start contacting vendors for the weekend in the next couple of weeks. She also mentioned that if you are talking to other members and/or members of the community that are not part of SLC, you may consider asking about firework donations. It is never to early to start asking about donations for this. The cost is expected to be around $14k - $15k this year based on last years price; so the more we can collect, the better off the lake club will be.

Rob: Dock Improvements/Construction: He has received a modification to the Craig Hill property. He is wanting to bring in a new dock; he will use the same lift that he has, but the dock will be replaced with one currently on the water. Rob made the motion to approve the new dock structure for the Hill property, Jo seconded. Motion carried.

4. OLD BUSINESS:

(a) Grant Award Status – No new information available

(b) Pump Station Project – Kevin indicated that the pumps have been ordered, but are on back-order; The County did award the work to 2 contractors, one will sub it out to the other They are hoping to get work started later on in July timeframe; but will be dependent on availability of product. He will keep the board updated as more information is passed on to him.

5. NEW BUSINESS:

(a) Construction Project Committee – Aline brought up that she thinks it would be helpful to help facilitate the activities of these major projects around our community. We could bring information to the membership on an asneeded basis and make sure that all members who are affected by the work are made aware ahead of time so we don’t have issues similar to what we have had on some of work being done recently around our community. She will put some thought into who should be on the committee (from the board and the general membership as well) and bring her suggestions back to the board at a future meeting.

6. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, the regular meeting was adjourned. The next regular meeting of the Board of Directors will be Monday, March 27, 2023.

3. REPORTS:

(a) PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Tom McBride made the presentation. He provided an update on the work needing to be done with the Sediment Basin project adjacent to the Oyler property. They had a meeting with all involved parties and worked on a game plan for the project to be completed in the next couple of months. Additional conversation will happen with all parties as work progresses, but the communication issues were dealt with, and all parties are on the same page moving forward.

He has received word from Aline that she has put together a contract for 3rd party services to use going forward. The form allows for vendors to provide information applicable to the party that will be doing work for the lake club including a description of services that will be filled out. There will also be a completion date indicated on the form for record keeping. All payments that will be invoiced to the lake club will also be outlined on the form. It will then be signed by a member of the lake club and the contractor themselves.

He also reported on behalf of Aline that she has obtained some information regarding the cost it would take to have SLC Directories printed for our membership. The best cost estimate was approximately $714 for 250 directories to be printed. After much discussion, Mike made a motion to approve to have a written directory printed by a vendor this year. The motion included the authorization to get up to 350 copies/$1,000 in total cost and for the directory to be printed with a QR code on the front to direct members to the lake club website where they can obtain even more information outside of what is included in the directory itself. There will be an email sent out to membership with a Google Form for them to update their contact information so that we have the most accurate information available to include in the directory. This will be sent out in the next couple of months to all membership. Jo Hunt seconded. Motion carried.

(b) MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Joe Anderson gave the report. He indicated that there were the following changes to the membership roster for Sherwood Lake Club over the last month:

• Nathan Treitel “A” Membership Approval – 7537 SW Robinhood Ct

It was also noted that there are currently 19 people on the waiting list for a Class B membership. Mike Morse made a motion to approve the changes in membership as presented above. Kerry O’Neal seconded. Motion carried.

(d) SHERWOOD SCENE: Tom met with Annette Beck to get next steps for the Sherwood Scene. She would like to work with someone on the current board to transition them into the role that she has served for the last several years. She will work with them over the remainder of the year to get them in the groove of putting together the scene and all that is encompassed in this task. Tom asked if a board member is interested in doing this to let him know and he will connect them with Annette.

(e) TREASURER’S REPORT: Jo Hunt made the presentation SLC currently has a cash balance of $465,599. The amount of outstanding A/R is $46,586, mostly made up of 2023 dues and boat registration fees Late fees were applied to all invoices that were outstanding as of 2/21/23 Notices were sent out on 3/14/23 to all that hadn’t paid their dues. Jo brought the issue that we are only currently covered under FDIC insurance through the bank up to $250k in total funds. We have almost double that in the bank accounts collectively at Kaw Valley Bank. Jo made a motion to move money up to $250k to another financial institution IF another option is not available with Kaw Valley Bank. The motion also included that we would look at all banks affiliated with SLC Members. This includes Allan Towle (Fidelity Bank) and Mike Munson (Central National Bank). Kurt Bossert seconded the motion as presented. During the discussion, Mike mentioned that regardless he would like to make sure it is kept in a local bank Motion carried.

CHECKS FOR APPROVAL: None to approve currently

Kerry O’Neal made the motion to approve the treasurer’s report. Kurt Bossert seconded. Motion carried. The treasurer’s report was accepted as presented.

(f) MANAGER’S REPORT: Jeff Handley presented the report. He is needing 4 new no-wake buoys; Should be about $200 a piece. He will be ordering those on the Bank Debit card in the next few weeks. He acknowledged Annette Beck for donating a new phone for Lake Patrol to use. He has got that activated and all the information transferred over from the old phone, and it is now in the possession of Travis Hirt to use He reported that Gardner Roofing is going to start in the clubhouse in the next couple of weeks. Work should take 2 business days once they get in and get to work. Jeff also reported that he needs a new laptop; will see what options he can find and move forward with a new laptop based on what he finds. If he believes it is an expense that needs to be approved prior to the purchase, he will communicate this with the Board as he learns more.

(g) DIRECTORS’ REPORT:

Kevin: Joe read Kevin’s email since he was not able to be present Dam Maintenance Project: We received the permit plans on the 14th from the BG Consultants as promised. Kevin then submitted the plans officially to DWR on Thursday, the 16th of March. Joe mailed the application and checked on Friday and I received the official notice that the plans are under review from DWR. This information was included in the board packet that was sent out prior to the meeting. Kevin then mentioned that SLC will submit to KDHE (erosion control) and the CORPS for construction permits closer to construction as they don’t take as long for review. He has asked BG to coordinate the plans with the County for their Nottingham Rd rehab project and will follow up to make sure that occurred(s).

Sediment Basin: One is 80% complete and the one that was temporarily stopped will have surveyors on site to drake the property lines. There will be some follow-up meetings after that.

Fishery: Randy McAllister has volunteered to contact the same fish supplier we have used, Charlie, about stocking Walleye this year. That should meet what the fishermen/women wanted to see stocked. Randy then commented that wipers will not be available this year. The Walleye that we will be receiving will be 5-8 inches in length; cost will be $6,000 and they will come from Minnesota. We expect to get them in early November, which is the ideal time for this type of fish based on the water temperature this time of year.

Pump stations and sewer: The pump station contract has been finalized and they are into the lengthy lead time for the pumps. Will provide a schedule update once they have it locked down. The sewer portion remains in limbo due to legal parameters about the county dealing with the initial awarded contractor going out of business. More information on this matter will be provided as Kevin learns more over the next couple of months.

LQEC: Update provided by Randy McAllister – will have update coming month about the soil sampling collections that we obtained. He will be sending information out to the members who participated to get the information to them based on the samples that were pulled from their yards.

Kurt: Insurance: He has received quotes for all policies except for the umbrella policy – in talking with the agent, they have indicated that the premium for that policy should be close to what it was last year All in all, we are looking at premium costs of $750 more than what we paid last year. He did get contacted by another agent in the last couple of weeks wanting to quote new policies for the lake club. He is allowing that agent to do so and will let the board know if anything needs to be discussed prior to renewal on 5/1/23 with our current provider. After discussion, it was concluded that prior to renewal discussions next year, we will reach out to any members who are insurance carriers to see if they would like to provide a quote on any of our policies.

16 Sherwood Scene January-March 2023

Property: Spring Clean-up is scheduled; he will get with Jeff to make sure we have the list of jobs to have members help with on the morning of the April 22nd. Communication will be sent out to membership a few weeks prior to make sure all know when it is scheduled for and to solicit help from additional members not previously signed up.

Aline: By-laws: Nothing to report as she was absent from the meeting

Kerry: Security: Nothing to report currently

Jo: Website: She is meeting with Sara McBride to discuss what options are available; relative costs to these options. If anyone has any suggestions for Jo and Sara to discuss, she will welcome them so as to share with Sara and see what options we have and the associated cost for these options for the Finance Committee to discuss and bring a recommendation to the board.

Mike: Club Liaison: He is starting to put together plans for the coming season as the weather is warming back up If anyone has anything that they would like to see put on the calendar for club activities, please let him know.

Megan: 4th of July: She has obtained a cost estimate of $17,400 for the fireworks show that would be a little better than what we had last year. For a similar show to last year, the cost would be $14,300. After discussion, it was decided that the $14,300 show is what we will pursue with John Matalone. Tom will work with Megan to contact him and get everything lined up. Jo reminded about the fireworks donations that are needing to get collected. There is a sheet that has been sent out by Jo for all to include any conversations they have with members about donating so we are not asking the same member from more than one board member. If you need help keeping this form updated, please let Jo know. Megan also mentioned that Dillons will be donating the pop this year, so we don’t have to worry about any costs associated with Pepsi any longer.

Rob: Dock Improvements/Construction: Nothing to report currently

5. NEW BUSINESS:

(a) Pledge Forms – Joe is going to provide an updated list to the Lake Patrol staff listing all members and whether they have turned in their pledge form. Blank copies of the pledge form will also be provided to the Lake Patrol so they can collect a signature from these members as they are launching their watercrafts this year. Joe will work w/ Jeff and Travis to establish a game plan so both lists stay updated as pledge forms are turned in to either party.
