GUANABA 58 Collaroy Road For sale Having lived on the Gold Coast for 18 years it was a simple day out in the car that Simon and Glenda 'stumbled' across what would become their property in Guanaba Valley. Tucked away in a secluded pocket at the end of a cul-de-sac, it was a hidden gem, says Simon, and a quiet oasis in contrast to the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast. It wasn’t just the privacy and quiet that appealed to creative duo Simon and Glenda. The original landowner was a nurseryman and had planted over 20 Cuban Royal palms that now mature, are generously dotted around the property, adding to the feeling of living in tropical paradise. The relationship and vision the nurseryman had with the property made it feel more garden than paddock and Simon and Glenda have continued caring and contributing to the growth of the gardens. Unlike many surrounding properties that are quite long and narrow, theirs is more square than rectangle, giving them a broader exposure to the beautiful river at the back of the property.

Collectively they have travelled extensively. After many trips to Europe and the United States, the Pacific and pre-Covid often traversing from one side of Australia and back again, it was the Valley of Guanaba that felt like home the most. Playful as much as architecturally considered, the design of the home came organically, a building up of layers as a suggestion from either Simon or Glenda and would lead to a fusion of ideas and a collaboration with select tradesmen. Throughout their stunning home, parts of their individual personalities have been woven into the design, inspiration from their travels distilled into it. The soaring ceiling, with its clean lines, a nod to modern architecture and the mezzanine library with its bespoke bookshelves made of recycled hardwood, reminiscent of attic spaces in Europe. Glenda herself designed the unique balustrading, complete with almost 30 meters of wrought iron, in an exquisite gumnut leaf motif. Each baluster was hand beaten and shaped and is also featured in the French style balcony window of the home office.
