Benny Paiz Park, Forestry & Open Space Manager
Benny Paiz is the Department’s new Parks, Forestry & Open Space Manager!
Benny comes to us from the City of Thornton with 23 years of experience. He is currently working on a degree in organizational leadership through Colorado State University, holds many relevant certifications, and is presently the President of the Colorado Sports Field Management Association.
Benny is an avid outdoorsman, and enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with family.

Cheyanne believes that if you follow your passion, you will find your purpose. She is passionate about working with today’s youth and is excited for her new position at the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center, where she hopes to create a motivational, inspirational, and fulfilling work environment. Previously, Cheyanne worked for over 7 years on a wonderful Colorado initiative that started high school age apprenticeships in professional settings.
Cheyanne graduated Wheat Ridge High School as a proud farmer but has traveled far from home since. She is an avid traveler and has been to 5 continents (lived on 3) and many more countries! She worked with youth in Africa, apes in Thailand and studied art in Paris. In Cheyanne’s spare time she loves to do chalk art and has been involved in the Denver Chalk Art Festival for over 4 years. She also loves rock climbing, reading, and socializing.

Certified Flexologist Charla Weipz will be offering assisted stretching, also known as PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) stretching, which is a technique that uses natural reflexes to allow muscles to relax as they are being stretched This specialized technique protects the natural reflexes that trigger additional tightness, to calm the muscles to prevent injury Which result in a safer, deeper, and more efficient stretch . Fitness orientations are open to all members and guests and include demonstrations on the proper use of fitness equipment and information on safety and weight room

NIA PLAYSHOPTHE NINE MOVEMENT FORMS
Join Nia Black Belt Aimee Van Ausdall in exploring the movement disciplines that created Nia (dance arts, martial arts, and healing arts), and the unique gifts they can offer YOUR body! Jeffco Middle School Sports
The JeffCo League middle school sports program provides students at participating middle schools the opportunity to play in after-school sports programs amongst their peers .
Practices are before and/or after school and are held on-site at the school . Competitions will take place on the same days of the week, replacing practice for that day (only for afternoon practices) Competitions are expected to start no earlier than 4:15pm Competitions are held at various locations throughout the JeffCo area (travel distances may vary and could be as far as Ken Caryl or Evergreen) All teams will participate in the end of season tournament . Single Elimination, expect to play 1-3 games per night

Wheat Ridge Community Foundation Scholarship
The Wheat Ridge Community Foundation, established in 2003, is a 501(c) nonprofit organization operated by a board of volunteers who are passionate about serving the needs of the community. This scholarship provides funds to those who need financial assistance to participate in Wheat Ridge Parks and Recreation programs.
Kyle Brake Memorial Scholarship
Established as a memorial to Kyle Brake, a young boy who loved to play sports, this program provides scholarship funds for children (Kindergarten through 8th grade) with limited financial resources to participate in organized sports.
Therapeutic Recreation Scholarship
Wheat Ridge Parks and Recreation provides scholarship funds to help people with disabilities who have limited financial resources participate in Therapeutic Recreation programs and services.

The purpose of our Therapeutic Recreation Program is to improve quality of life for individuals with disabilities by offering a variety of enriching adapted programs, specifically designed to meet their unique needs.
Our experienced and friendly staff work with people of all ages and abilities to help develop and improve physical, cognitive, emotional and social skills; as well as provide a fun, enjoyable experience!

CYANOTYPE WORKSHOP
Discover the fun and magic of creating brilliant blue cyanotype prints. Considered an early form of photography, paper is treated with a photosensitive solution. Thin objects like (leaves, feathers, lace) are placed on paper, sandwiched under glass and set out in the sun. Feel free to bring your own thin objects. After the paper is rinsed, a wonderful blue color emerges. Create 3-4 prints during class. $15 supply fee due to the instructor on the day of class. Inclement weather re-schedule date is 10-1. Active Adult Center 50+ Trips & Outdoor Recreation
Knowing what to expect supports the group to enjoy positively memorable trips.
GETTING THERE
TRIP REGISTRATION
• Each participant must register with their own account and provide an emergency contact .
• Register only for trips that match your ability See trip rating and description and ask questions .
• Patrons must be able to participate in planned trip activities independently OR have a personal aide register and buy a trip seat to provide direct support .
• For proper seating, accommodation, and storage, report these with every trip registration: use a cane, walker, wheelchair, or oxygen; low core strength
• When a trip reaches capacity, register for the wait list . Individuals on the wait list are called as soon as openings become available
REFUND, CANCELLATION & TRANSFER POLICIES:
• If minimum registration is not met, a trip may be canceled, and fee credited .
• Trip cancellations must be made with AAC staff by phone or in person If you choose to withdraw from a trip, call 303-205-7500 by the published CANCEL BY date to receive a credit . Refunds by check or credit card take 3 weeks and are subject to a $5 service charge . If you cancel/no show after the published CANCEL BY date, the trip fee is forfeited
• Trip registrations may not be transferred to another person .

• Trips depart on time Arrive 15 minutes before departure . Return times are approximate .
• For trips departing from the Active Adult Center, park on the street or in the center’s back lot
• Outdoor recreation trips depart from Founders Park, 3705 Jay St . Park at Founders Park .
• Trip Drivers/Leaders will assist patrons on/off the van as needed and stow personal equipment like a cane, walker, or oxygen tank as required by the City’s insurance carrier
BE PREPARED
• Be sure to read your registration receipt for accurate trip details .
• Bring a water bottle and dress for variable conditions .
• Meal cost is on your own unless stated as included . Expect about $20 plus gratuity for most meals

TRIP ETIQUETTE
• Participants are expected to be respectful and abide by the Trip Driver/Leader’s instructions
• Avoid distracting the driver/leader when driving .
• Please refrain from unnecessary cell phone use during a trip
• For the comfort of all aboard the trip van, please avoid cologne/perfume use .
EASY – Mostly sitting; accessible venue
LIGHT – Self-paced walking on even surfaces; accessible venue
MODERATE – Walking on varied surfaces/possible stairs; pace may be determined by guide
ACTIVE – Lots of walking; brisk pace; stairs or venue not accessible; elevation over 9,000’
NOTE: Ratings for outdoor recreation trips are separate.

Enjoy the great outdoors with others at a comfortable pace for active older adults. Fee includes transportation, permits, parking, and leader.

BE PREPARED –Outdoor Recreation
All hiking trails have obstacles like roots and rocks and trail conditions vary widely. Difficulty rating is based on elevation, incline, distance, and adjusted for the age group. Hiking poles required for hikes Dress in layers for variable weather; bring rain gear; apply sunblock. Wear study walking shoes or boots with good traction. Pack lunch/snacks and water. How to Register For Programs Online!
Visit www.rootedinfun.com/register, or click the side bar on our Rooted in Fun Website that says “Register” to get started!
You must login in order to sign up for our programs and events. If you do add items to your cart, you will be asked to login before completing your registration.
If you’ve created a household with us during one of your visits at the Rec Center,
• Your username is the email address you placed on file when you created your household.
• Your password is the zip code you placed on file when you created your household.
You may change your username and password, or can retrieve it if you’ve forgotten it via a simple password/ username reset outlined in the login screen on our registration website.
Once you are logged in, you can search for programs and events via the activity number if you have it, a simple key word search, or by filtering through the program type and age category.
Registration Guidelines
Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage you to enroll in programs at least two weeks prior to the start date. Programs with low enrollment may be canceled. Payment with registration required
