Yours is, first of all, a long family tradition… Yes, I am the fourth-generation member of this family business which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2022. Our history begins with my great-grandfather who started a shop in Enna selling mostly gift items and jewelry and a few watch brands. My grandfather moved the shop to a new location in Catania on Corso Italia, and my father opened many more locations, which I continued to develop the company by establishing, following the takeover of Trucchi Orologeria, new stores in Naples and Capri. Watches have been playing an important role in your business. What intrigues you about such an iconic object? What intrigues me the most about watches is the micromechanics, which has reached truly extraordinary levels. What are the latest trends in the world of high watchmaking? Years ago the market was more oriented toward yellow gold and white or silver dials, today there are new materials, such as titanium, and a wider taste for different colors, like green. The most in-demand precious stones? Each place is different from the others. As far as Sicily is concerned, diamonds and emeralds. On one side, the hardest stone on earth, on the other, the most delicate one and yet wonderful. What are the stronghold cities of the Restivo stores? The main one is Catania, where we have an 800-square meter store, ranging from watches to jewelry and gift items. Then Taormina, Ortigia and Panarea islands. Outside of Sicily, two stores in Naples and three in Capri. The city where you live and one place close to your heart. I live in Catania, a beautiful city, but the one place which is truly special for me is Etna. It is relaxing and heart-warming. What three words best describe Sicily? Volcanic, enchanting and precious.
La vostra è, prima di tutto, una lunga tradizione di famiglia... Sì, io rappresento la quarta generazione di questa tradizione che nel 2022 compie 100 anni. Una storia che è cominciata col mio bisnonno, che aprì a Enna un negozio orientato principalmente sull’articolo da regalo e la gioielleria, con qualche marchio di orologeria. Mio nonno si spostò poi a Catania, quando ancora in Corso Italia c’era ben poco e mio padre ampliò notevolmente la rete dei punti vendita, così come abbiamo continuato a fare anche con il mio ingresso, aprendo, dopo l’acquisizione della Trucchi Orologeria, asset anche tra Napoli e Capri. Gli orologi hanno preso sempre più importanza nella vostra attività. Cosa l’affascina di più di questo oggetto così iconico? La cosa che trovo più intrigante è sicuramente la micromeccanica, che ha raggiunto livelli davvero eccezionali. Le tendenze attuali nel mondo degli orologi di top gamma? Un tempo il mercato era improntato più sull’oro giallo e su quadranti bianchi o argento, oggi ci sono nuovi materiali come il titanio e molto più spazio per colori diversi, ad esempio il verde. Le pietre preziose più richieste? Ogni piazza è diversa dall’altra. Per quanto riguarda la Sicilia i brillanti e gli smeraldi. Da una parte la pietra più dura che esista, dall’altra quella più delicata, ma comunque meravigliosa. Quali sono le città roccaforti degli store Restivo? La roccaforte principale è Catania, dove abbiamo uno store di 800 mq, che spazia dall’orologio al gioiello passando per l’articolo da regalo. Poi abbiamo Taormina, l’isola di Ortigia e Panarea. Fuori dalla Sicilia, due negozi a Napoli e tre a Capri. La città dove vive e uno dei suoi luoghi del cuore. Io vivo a Catania, già bellissima, ma un luogo che per me è davvero speciale è l’Etna. Rilassa e scalda il cuore. La sua Sicilia in tre parole. Vulcanica, affascinante e preziosa.
