Easter Brunch

A combination of breakfast and lunch is put together. It has been the greatest thing ever since 1895. Easter Sunday, for most Christians, is celebrated with a brunch where families get together, kids dress up in their finest spring attires, and they look for hidden eggs that may contain prizes.

Whatever your religion, it is a tradition to have brunch

that day and enjoy the Spring weather. Families traditionally cook and bake a wonderful smorgasbord or array of items like ham, omelets, quiches, fruits, and salads. Champagne mimosas, as well as coffee and tea, are enjoyed with baked goodies.

If you don’t want to cook, there are always many options in your community that have Easter Brunch events. Most hotels and restaurants host families to this wonderful tradition. Check your local community options, and we are sure you will find a wonderful place to have brunch.

Saint Patrick’s Day Saint Patrick’s Day

Ireland is known for a lot of things. One of them is the origin of Saint Patrick’s Day, a religious holiday that is now celebrated in the United States and all over the world, especially here in our binational region.

Saint Patrick was a real person that spread Christianity all over Ireland, a pagan land. Shamrocks symbolize his teaching of the Holy Trinity and these green plants have evolved into being considered good luck charms, along with pots of gold, rainbows, and leprechauns.

Traditionally, you must wear green on March 17th,

the official date for Saint Patrick’s. If you are caught without green apparel, you can be pinched by anyone!

You can celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day in your local community. Parades are held, and schools encourage this celebration. Pubs, bars, and restaurants offer green food and drinks!

On April 1st, we celebrate April Fool’s Day, a day where jokes and pranks are celebrated commemorating one of the most non-religious holidays in the world. It originated in Great Britain, and nobody really knows how it started in the early 17th century, but every year pranks and practical jokes get better and better!

Newspapers, media and websites make up stories and hoaxes to fool readers and gullible audiences. Kids love being fooled and fooling their parents and teachers if everyone is a good sport.

La Revista Binacional wants to give you some ideas about things you can do to fool your family, friends, and co-workers!

For kids:

• Brussels Sprouts lollipops! Carefully take off the wrapper of a lollipop. Cut hard candy and save the stick. Put the stick in a brussels sprout and put the wrapping back on! Kids will laugh and hopefully eat them too!

• Lunch with ants! Invest in fake ants and sprinkle them all over inside your kids’ lunchboxes

• Mint Oreos! Carefully pull apart a few Oreos and scrape the white cream filling off. Use white mint toothpaste between them and put them on a plate to entice your kids (and co-workers!).

For adults:

• Swap sugar for salt, especially in the office break room.

• Send everyone an email or text with the following link:

• WORLD’S BIGGEST FOOL! https://facebook.com/profile. php?=733

• Upside down computer. If your co-workers have their computer on, have them go to another room or when they leave their desk and do the following:

1. For Windows: CTRL + ALT + Down Arrow (everything turns upside down).

• For Mac: System Preferences. Hold Command and Option while clicking on Display, and then hit the ‘180’ option.

Do you have special tricks and pranks? Let us know!

Stay on the lookout this April 1st! We don’t want you to be fooled.

March Madness is arguably the best tournament in sports, as it is the most unpredictable. Sixty-four teams are battling in single-elimination basketball games that create chaos and unpredictability. What makes March Madness special is the ability to make your bracket in hopes of creating the “perfect bracket,” which has never been done.

The odds of filling out a perfect bracket are 1 in 9,223,372,0366,854,775,808 (a number we can’t even pronounce). College teams like Duke, UCLA, and Kentucky regularly make it. For many, getting into dance takes luck and skill, as most schools need more talent and budget to compete with

the powerhouses. The tournament breaks down like this, 64 teams play, and only 32 advances. Then out of those 32, only 16 remain, also known as Sweet Sixteen. From the Sweet Sixteen goes to the Elite Eight and then the Final Four. The Final Four is the tournament’s semifinals and the Final Four winner’s faceoff in the National Championship. The matchups are decided based on seeding numbers which range from 1-16. The no. 1 seed would face the no. 16 seed and the no.2 seed would face no. 15, etc. The reason why underdogs thrive in this tournament is that there is no reseeding after every round. So, if a lower seed beats a top team, their path would be like a high seed, leading to easier opponents for underdogs. When an upset happens, and that team continues to win, they have coined the phrase “Cinderella Story.”

The Cinderella story is the term used for teams that defy the odds and make it to the deeper stages of the tournament. There are usually about 2 Cinderella stories per tournament, which bust brackets for most of the country. A few examples are in 2018, when no. 11 seed Loyola Chicago made it to the Final Four, or in last year’s tournament when no. 15 seed St. Peters made it to the Elite Eight.

March Madness creates chaos and excitement for anyone who enjoys basketball as we see the players and schools play for their personal goal of winning it all. The David v. Goliath narratives are present as big-budget schools compete with schools that barely have the equipment and talent to be in the tournament, making March Madness a great thing to watch this spring. At the end of the day, a powerhouse in college basketball could face a school that is their first time in the tournament, and the teams will play a 40-minute game to decide the outcome, which lies with uncertainty for those who play.

The Secret Behind the Best Grilled Cheese

The secret to the best grilled cheese is cheese. Choosing the correct type of cheese (and grating instead of slicing it) can completely turn around this dish, and you’ll be able to get that nice cheese pull we all love. Another secret hack I recommend is adding a splash of water to your pan and letting it evaporate with the lid on. The water vapor will help your cheese melt without risking burning your bread.

Ingredients

2 slices of bread

Cheddar and Monterey Jack Cheese

(you could use Pepper Jack for a little spice).

Butter

1/2 tbsp of water

Instructions

Start by spreading some roomtemperature butter into your bread. Mix your grated cheese into a bowl. Place one of the slices into a cold pan with the butter facing down. Add your cheese and pat it down so it doesn’t fall off your bread.

Turn the heat up to medium and toast bread for 5-8 minutes, or until your bread is toasted to your liking. Flip your bread and add your water to the pan. Cover with a lid immediately, and toast for 5-8 minutes. Serve and enjoy.

Pairing wine with cheese has always been easy. You know that a good merlot goes well with gouda or brie, and that chardonnay pairs well with camembert cheese. But what about craft beer?

BOCK is a strong German beer that is brewed as a lager. Fontal cheese is a milder version of the FONTINA. Cheese goes well with this beer.

INDIA PALE ALE (IPA is my personal favorite) is a hoppy beer style within the pale ale category. If you like BLEU CHEESE, we recommend pairing your favorite IPA with it and some toasted rye. IPA usually has citric flavors that combine perfectly with bleu’s intense taste and aroma.

PILSNER is a type of pale lager, one of the least strong beers out there. Therefore, Pilsner goes well with a good BUTTERKASE cream cheese that is immensely popular in Austria and Germany.

AMBER ALE is a pale ale brewed with amber and crystal malt to produce that brownish color. It pairs well with an ASIAGO, made from cow’s milk, and its flavor and texture depend on how long it is aged.

SOUR ALE is an intentionally sour and tartar-flavored beer. I recommend pairing it with a delicious grilled cheese sandwich using MEUNSTER cheese.

HARD CIDER is an alcoholic drink made entirely from apple juice. Its tart flavor pairs well with sweet GOUDA cheese.

DARK ALE BEER, or BLACK IPA, is a strong-flavored beer made with roasted malts. Its aroma and intense flavor pair well with the famous strong LIMBURGER cheese.

STOUT BEER is strong and dark brewed with roasted malts and barley. It pairs well with a good GORGONZOLA cheese or spread.

MEXICAN LAGER is a clean lager with low bitterness and high clarity. It goes well with QUESO FRESCO or any CHEESE CURD type you have.

Which combination will you try first? Let us know. Don’t forget to celebrate National Beer Day (in the USA) on April 7!

Martha ayudó a mi familia con nuestras dos hipotecas y ahora, ella nos ayudó a refinanciarlos. Definitivamente voy a recomendarla a familiares y amigos.

TESTIMONIOS
Read in English and get in contact here:

There is no doubt (at least that is what they say in the state of Chihuahua) that burritos, the typical Mexican food that consists of stews and different casserole dishes wrapped in a large tortilla, originate from Cd. Juárez, Chihuahua.

It was the Mexican Revolution in Mexico, and a man named Juan M. was dedicated to bringing food to the soldiers fighting in this war.

To save money, he used large flour tortillas and put all kinds of stews in them, from beans to meat with chili. He would wrap them in such a way that the stew would not spill, and

each soldier or revolutionary could eat it without the need for utensils. Every day, Juan arrived with his two or three donkeys (burros) at the barracks and camps, in Juarez lands. Each donkey was loaded with food.

Legend has it that when they saw him arrive, the soldiers shouted, “Here come the burritos.”

And that is how that name stuck to this delight that is so famous today.

There are so many varieties, even in California there is the famous “California Burrito”, with carne asada, guacamole, salsas, and fries.

Let’s keep enjoying the burritos, morning, noon, and night.

César Estrada Chávez

President Barack Obama borrowed the phrase that was the slogan of one of the most important Latinos who have fought for rights, especially labor rights in the United States: CESAR ESTRADA CHAVEZ.

The famous phrase “Yes, we can!” It was the “slogan” that characterized the struggle of CESAR CHAVEZ throughout his career as a peaceful activist who tirelessly fought for the excellent treatment and fair and dignified payment of workers, especially Latinos who worked in the fields.

“The cause,” said Chávez, referring to his main reason for fighting, benefited thousands of farm workers throughout the United States.

He was born in Yuma, AZ, on March 31, 1927, and immigrated to California during the Great Depression. He dropped out of high school and joined the U.S. NAVY.

He formed a large family with Helena Fabela, bringing eight children into the world.

In 1962 he founded NFWA (National Farm Workers Association), with which he helped protect the most exploited workers, the same ones who spent long hours in the fields for much less than the minimum wage.

Following Gandhi’s peaceful footsteps, Chávez achieved his goals with hunger strikes, sacrificing his health each time.

In May 1972, Chávez proclaimed the phrase used for everything to this day: “Yes, you can!” in response to all the times he was told, “No, you can’t.”

He died while sleeping in 1966 of natural causes, inheriting to all Latinos and humanity in general teaching of struggle and hope. Next time you say, “YES, YOU CAN!” in some critical game or situation, consider CESAR ESTRADA CHAVEZ and his determination to achieve his goals.

Is There More Rock After Our Adolescence?

In an interview of Rock and Roll Garage magazine to Robert Plant in 2017, he was asked about a supposed meeting of Led Zeppelin, to which the singer replied:

“It shows you that people don’t have anything else to write about, obviously. And that’s kind of sad. All these magazines and internet platforms should support new music and help new musicians find an audience, instead of dwelling on the old crap all the time. It’s like there’s nothing new and exciting anymore, when in fact there is. So stop living in the past. Open your ears and your eyes. It’s not that hard, right?”

This comment comes from one of the most important rock icons of all time, so, under this challenging premise, it brings me to confirm that we have reached an age where we stop looking and it is not my intention to criticize. But it is our duty as good rockers, to have our security blanket of the rock of our youth, but to also look for something new. So, I’ll recommend something new based on some classic rock bands against some unknown bands or at least from the year 2000 onwards.

My favorite, The Beatles. And I want to recommend XTC, which, although it is no longer new, is very little known and brings arrangements that range from the most sophisticated pop to jazz and even experimental music. Having fans from Sabo

My second, The Rolling Stones. Here I would recommend The Strokes, they’re an American rock band from New York City. Formed in 1998, they bring a “bad boy” attitude with the energy of indie rock. Maybe it lacks a bit of blues, but I think it’s a good equivalent.

Black Sabbath. I leave it to the band Sleep, who are “almost-religious” devotees of the Sabbath, and exercise their worship through long, intentionally slow riffs that recall the same Tony Iommi guitar wizardry.

Romo from Caifanes to Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree.
28

Led Zeppelin. I present to you his adopted sons of Greta Van Fleet, employing a heavy mix of hard rock and blues, plus the band’s voice has risen to prominence due to lead man Josh Kiszka’s sonic similarity to Zep singer Robert Plant.

AC/DC. Just like them, Airbourne is a rock and roll band from Australia. The band formed in 2003. Their sound is often compared to Australian rock legends AC/DC, although they also draw heavy influence from other Australian bands such as Rose Tattoo and The Angels.

Pink Floyd. More inclined to their psychedelic leg, but Tame Impala kicked off their career as explorers of the psychedelic genre, the Australian band spent a decade mutating their sound in fascinating ways. But on their debut album, Innerspeaker, they create a huge, loud album of guitar-rock drenched in swirling psychedelic colors.

Even though they are similar bands, we shouldn’t expect them to sound the same, that’s what’s interesting; they do not deny the influence of these classic bands, but at the same time they create their own sound through their sonic interpretation of the DNA they heard in their musical formation.

If you want to discover more bands similar to your favorites, head over to my Facebook Page “RadioUnión Mexicali” and I will gladly respond with recommendations. See you next time!

Angelina remembers that she and her little siblings saw the same film for a month. In 1920, Angelina entered Escuela Martinez, the first elementary school in Tijuana.

Angelina married Jose Maria Arce “Pepe” in 1938, and they had a daughter, Leticia Norm. In 1956, Angelina and her daughter moved to San Diego. She lived and worked in San Diego until her retirement in 1972, when she returned to Tijuana to reside and care for her mother, Chabelita.

At this time, Angelina began to serve at the Church of Santa Teresa in the Gabilondo neighborhood. Reverend Father Arturo de la Torre encouraged her to do religious studies to serve as minister of the Eucharist. Angelina was the first woman appointed Eucharistic Minister in Tijuana. These were very happy and fulfilling

years in her life; since she was a child, she always had a strong faith and was pleased to catechize hundreds of adults to receive the sacraments. In 2010, Angelina returned to live in Bonita with her daughter Norma, where they reside. For a few years, she could attend mass on Thursday in Corpus Christi and joined the group of prayer and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

At 105 years old, Angelina is the nucleus of the family, surrounded by those she cares for. They love and respect her. Her grandchildren Jaime and Ricardo, her daughter Norma and many of her nephews and nieces are always with her. During her life, Angelina has remained proud of her Mexican roots and grateful for the privilege of being binational. She always instilled in the youth of the United States resident families who speak Spanish and are proud of their roots and culture. A great gift for multiple generations of her family.

LOVE THE BEES!

Melissophobia is the fear of bees. It is also known as apiphobia. In average, 12.5% of adults have a strong fear of bees. Not only are you afraid of being stung by these tiny flying insects, but this phobia can cause severe anxiety attacks in those who have it.

It is ok to fear them, but over the last years, we have learned that these insects are critically in danger of becoming extinct if we are not careful.

So what? Let me explain.

Bees are an essential part of our biosphere and an important part of our survival. According to FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), one third of our food depends on bees.

Bees are nature’s pollinators and a key factor in spreading pollen to fertilize and therefore continue the reproduction of plants, flowers, and crops. These, as well, are food for more insects, animals, and of course, humans.

Bee populations have drastically decreased in the last few years due to pesticides, loss of habitat, and of course, weather changes.

It is a worldwide concern that we all depend on bees for our survival. That is why world leaders have taken precautions and are aware of taking care of them. Banning the use of pesticides, keeping hives with professional care, and making sure to promote the “Save the Bees” awareness, the world is united in helping them.

How can you love the bees and help them survive?

• Nectar-bearing flowers like sunflowers are not only pretty for your garden or balcony but also good for the pollen and bees.

• Look for local honeybees and buy from them instead of commercial brands. They also help with allergies!

• Do not use pesticides that harm bees. Make sure to read labels.

• Donate to local bee farms. There are a lot of local non-profit organizations that help the bees.

• Never kill a bee. If you are afraid of being stung, just slowly move away. They do not sting if they do not feel threatened.

• Love the bees.

On May 20th we celebrate BEE DAY worldwide. Let’s celebrate them and help save the bees.

The Oscar

Of a broken friendship on the island in Ireland; Maverick returning to cross the skies; The eclipsed career of an orchestra conductor; A woman lost in an extraordinary multiverse; An eccentric group stranded on a deserted island; The life of the king of rock; A child falling in love with cinema until he shouted “lights, camera, action!”

The magic returns. The search for the ultimate encounter with glory. Taking the art of writing and making it immortal in scenes and memories. He stands dressed in gold, between red carpets and emotional speeches. This year the Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences gives us in its nominees a strong group of actors, scripts and scenarios to try to consolidate the seventh art again.

Dreaming doesn’t cost anything or so they say, so it’s time to dream with rooms full of people imagining and taking their dreams beyond those two hours of travel to the worlds that only cinema gives us.

We are ready for another year of golden statuettes. And for you, who will win the Oscar?

Baseball Season is Here!

With the arrival of Spring, the start of a new MLB season is upon us. Like every year, all fans feel optimistic and excited about their team heading into a new season, and this year is no different. There is a lot to be excited about in this upcoming season. Star players with new teams, loads of young talent, new rules, and a new schedule format make the 2023 season a promising one. As we get ready for the new season, here is what you need to know before Opening Day arrives and Play Ball is called.

New Stuff in 2023

Baseball will be slightly different starting in 2023, with some rule changes. This year we’ll get three new rules, a Pitch Clock, Bigger Bases, and a Shift Restriction. Also, there will be a brand-new schedule format.

Pitch Clock: Pitchers will have 15 seconds to throw the pitch with empty bases or 20 seconds with the runner(s) on base, making the game faster.

Bigger Bases: The first, Second, and third bases will increase from 15” square to 18” square. Increasing the bases’ size is done for player safety and could lead to more stolen bases.

Shift Restriction: 2 infielders must be positioned at each side of second base when the pitch is thrown. Not having the shift could mean more hits and runs.

Schedule Format: In MLB’s brandnew schedule format, every team

gets to play against each other, which means a World Series rematch every year, making the season more competitive and fun to watch.

Biggest Offseason Moves

After a crazy offseason, a lot of big-name players will have a new uniform this season.

• RHP Jacob deGrom to the Texas Rangers.

• SS Trea Turner to the Philadelphia Phillies.

• RHP Justin Verlander to the New York Mets.

• SS Xander Bogaerts to the San Diego Padres.

• LHP Carlos Rodón to the New York Yankees.

• RHP Kodai Senga to the New York Mets.

• 1B José Abreu to the Houston Astros.

• 3B Justin Turner to the Boston Red Sox.

• SS Dansby Swanson to the Chicago Cubs. These players were elected Free Agency but stayed with the same team.

• RF Aaron Judge stayed with the New York Yankees

• LHP Clayton Kershaw stayed with the Los Angeles Dodgers

• SS Carlos Correa to the San Francisco Giants… never mind, he signed with the New York Mets… oh wait, he stayed with the Minnesota Twins.

2023 MLB Season Predictions

Baseball might be one of the hardest sports to predict, but here are my 2023 MLB season predictions.

• NL Division Winners: 1. Mets, 2. Dodgers, 3. Cardinals

• AL Division Winners: 1. Astros, 2. Yankees, 3. Guardians

• NL Wild Cards: 4. Padres, 5. Braves, 6. Phillies

• AL Wild Cards: 4. Mariners, 5. Blue Jays, 6. Orioles

• NLWC: Braves over Padres, Phillies over Cardinals

• ALWC: Blue Jays over Mariners, Orioles over Guardians

• NLDS: Braves over Mets, Dodgers over Phillies

• ALDS: Astros over Blue Jays, Yankees over Orioles

• NLCS: Dodgers over Braves

• ALCS: Yankees over Astros

• World Series: Dodgers over Yankees in 7 games

Anything can happen in baseball. Let’s see what 2023 brings us.

In 1954, the United Nations declared that there should be one day a year to celebrate and protect children who worked long and dangerous hours while asking for time for children to contin- ue studying. However, the date varies depending on the country. Mexico (and many border cities in the southern United States) cel- ebrates Children’s Day on April 30.

Schools celebrate their children (pre-school to elementary) on that day with various activities and festive events. There are no classes; even if they have to go to school, they celebrate there. Their family can go party with them too.

Some schools celebrate by letting children dress up as superhe- roes or as what they would like to be when they are adults.

If you have children in your house, celebrate with them. Childhood is so short! Our obligation as adults is to leave the best memories for our children so that they grow up healthy and self-confident.

DID YOU KNOW?

The United States celebrates Children’s Day on June 11, and international Children’s Day is on November 20.

Pretzel Day

In the United States, we celebrate NATIONAL PRETZEL DAY on April 26th ever since 2003.

Pretzels are one of the most popular snacks that are good for every occasion, including sporting events, snacking while shopping and of course, at the movie theaters.

Pretzels, a unique shaped boiled and baked bread, are said to be of religious origin. As early as the 7th century, the Catholic Church prohibited meat consumption so pretzels were the healthy choice of food instead.

Its twisted shape symbolized the union of two, as

in matrimony, giving pretzels a romantic origin. In the United States, Germans in Pennsylvania introduced us this great snack and therefore in early 2000s, PRETZEL DAY was recognized as a special day to this delicious piece of bread.

Here at La Revista Binacional, we strongly recommend you to look out for local and franchised pretzel places that will celebrate NATIONAL PRETZEL DAY by giving pretzels for free. Make sure you remember that day!

FACTS ABOUT PRETZELS:

• $550 million is the annual worth of the pretzel industry.

• 1.5 lbs. of pretzels are the average a person in the United States eats in a year.

• Dipping sauces have been more in demand since pretzels were discovered to be a great bread to dip.

Spring is when a lot of oral hygiene related themes are celebrated. We have National (United States) Dentist Day on March 6th where we celebrate all the men and women that keep our pearly whites healthy, strong and smile worthy.

On March 20th, we celebrate WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY, where we join worldwide to spread awareness of oral hygiene, the importance of having your teeth checked by professionals and to help those in need of oral hygiene medical attention.

Oral disease is important to be treated. It not only burdens patients with pain and discomfort, but it can also lead to low self-esteem and lack of self-confidence.

History

World Oral Health Day was first declared in 2007 and was originally celebrated on 12 September - the birth date of FDI founder Dr Charles Godon. However, the campaign was not fully activated until 2013, after the date was changed to 20 March to avoid conflict with the FDI World Dental Congress taking place in September.

The new date was chosen to reflect that:

• Seniors must have a total of 20 natural teeth at the end of their life to be considered healthy.

• Children should possess 20 baby teeth.

• Healthy adults must have a total of 32 teeth and 0 dental cavities.

• Expressed on a numerical basis this can be translated as 3/20 hence March 20.

Real estate is one of the economic drivers of a country, especially the United States. With the market fluctuating and unpredictable, there is a more significant percentage of US citizens interested in investing south of the border. The same is happening with Foreign Nationals (Mexican citizens) taking advantage of lower peso vs. dollar rate exchange to support in the United States.

With this said, looking for a binational brokerage may be the best thing you can do. Working with agents on both sides of the border from the same brokerage gives you the advantage and security that you will be taken care of.

If you are coming from Mexico as a foreign national, these are the advantages of working with a binational brokerage:

1. Binational brokers and agents understand coming from another country with your money.

2. Questions are answered in your language to prevent communication barriers.

3. Bilingual and bicultural agents understand the binational community and lead you to step by step towards the purchase of the property, from the pre-approval all the way up to closing and getting your keys.

If you are a US Citizen and want to invest south of the border, working with a binational brokerage is advantageous because:

1. Binational brokers are certified in the United States and have government-issued licenses that give you peace of mind that you will be taken care of.

2. Having a binational brokerage gives you the advantage of working with agents that have the ‘process knowledge of real estate in Mexico.

3. Binational brokers can guide you through creating your trust (fideicomiso in Spanish) that gives you the right to purchase property with all the advantages.

4. Binational agents can help you understand how and where to get the financing questio

“May the force be with you” is an iconic phrase from the Star Wars Saga since the late 1970s.

Due to the fact that it sounds like “May the fourth”, it was on May 4th, 1979, when Margaret Thatcher was assuming office as Britain’s new prime minister, that the newspaper “The London Evening News” printed a clever phrase: “ May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations!” in a full page ad.

That was quickly established by the American popular culture and English-speaking population worldwide.

From Star Wars fans to serious business meetings, on May the 4th, it is perfectly fine to greet with a “May the Fourth be with you”. You can even wear your best Han Solo costume, updo your hair into buns like Princess Leia or carry your lightsaber.

CINCO DE MAYO is NOT September 16th

One of the biggest misconceptions is how people in the United States think the Mexican Independence is celebrated on May 5th and not September 16th.

It is May when we see retail stores and restaurants offering merchandise and specials to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, a holiday rarely celebrated in Mexico. The United States (Los Angeles, to be exact) has the biggest celebration of Cinco de Mayo in the world, whereas, in Mexico, Puebla is one of the few states that celebrate it.

Cinco de Mayo celebrates “La Batalla de Puebla” when Napoleon III invades the state of Puebla in Mexico with his French army. Mexico defaulted on debt with Europe, so France decided to invade and make it a monarchy.

The French army was an undefeated force, so Puebla’s triumph over it made it even more special, a David and Goliath type of fight.

The hero of Cinco de Mayo was Ignacio Zaragoza, who led the Mexican army and defeated the French. Zaragoza was born in Texas, therefore having a connection with the United States.

So, yeah. Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day.

Mexico celebrates its Cry for Independence from Spain the evening of September 15th, and September 16th is the official day of Mexico’s Independence, where a national family-friendly fiesta takes place all over the country with fantastic music, food, and parades.

So next time you are toasting with your margarita on a warm Cinco de Mayo, make sure you know it is a celebration of how Mexico defeated the French in a small battle. (And also, a good excuse for a Mexican fiesta in May).

5 Reasons why breastfeeding is best for yourself and your baby.

For your baby:

1. Breastmilk has antibodies that help protect your baby from colds, flu, and other illnesses. Mothers are encouraged to breastfeed if they have a cold or flu because their bodies are making antibodies passed through their breastmilk to their baby, which will help them not become sick in the future.

2. Breastmilk is made specifically for your baby and has all the nutrients that your baby needs.

3. Breastfed babies have a lower risk of developing obesity. It is hard to overfeed a baby fed directly from the breast. Once your baby is full, they will start sucking lightly, which will not produce milk. When being fed by a bottle, babies can be easily overfed because milk is constantly released into their mouths and can be sucked out easily.

4. Mother’s milk is easier to digest and reduces constipation and diarrhea.

Breastmilk is a lot easier on your baby’s stomach. Not only this, but their poop will not be smelly until they are introduced to solids.

5. Breastfeeding introduces babies to a wider variety of flavors. The taste of breastmilk will change with the foods you eat. This helps your baby to avoid becoming a picky eater in the future.

For yourself:

1. Breastfeeding lowers your risk for breast cancer and other female related cancers.

2. Breastfeeding can help reduce your risk of getting postpartum depression.

3. Breastfeeding can help you lose weight after giving birth. When you are breastfeeding, you are burning around 200-500 calories a day. The more milk you produce, the more calories you are burning. Remember to add extra calories to your diet to keep up with the demand.

4. If you are exclusively breastfeeding, you will not get your period. Once you give birth, you are very fertile. If you are exclusively breastfeeding this will work as a natural birth control, and you will not get your period until 6 months - 2 years. (Depending on your body and breastfeeding).

5. Breastfeeding will help your uterus return to normal quicker.

Bioidentical

Hormones

You are faced with a feeling of suffocation, drowning, nervousness, anguish, shortness of breath, irritability, insomnia, lack of concentration, lack of energy, and mood changes. How to differentiate if you are facing a panic attack or, will it be menopause/andropause?

Most people think menopause is just those panic attacks, hot flashes, sweating, or mood changes (irritability, crying easily) when in reality, we know that it goes much further.

From the age of 35, this decline in hormones begins, and there is no reason why you must wait for symptoms to appear before you are prescribed hormone replacement. There is much controversy in this regard. The ideal would be to maintain a hormonal balance (mainly progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone) before they manifest symptoms of perimenopause.

Hormones are vitally important for the overall health of every human being. These hormones are altered throughout our lives and vary from person to person. Everybody is different. This hormonal imbalance, which we sooner or later go through, depends significantly on our lifestyle and physiological changes. Some signs can be if we had our first period (menarche) at an early age, had one or several pregnancies, or never had a pregnancy. Even the use of oral contraceptives causes a significant hormonal imbalance (they affect progesterone levels and alter brain chemistry).

Menopause is a phase in a woman’s life (andropause in men). It is not a disease, although in many cases, it is accompanied by specific physical and emotional changes

that you should be aware of to avoid losing your quality of life. A significant decrease in estrogen, progesterone and testosterone determines menopause. Its main symptoms are irregular menstrual cycles, hot flashes, night sweats, palpitations, insomnia, vertigo, headache, emotional disturbances, vaginal dryness, dry skin, weight gain, fatigue, and lack of libido, among others, due to a hormonal imbalance.

The decrease in estrogen can cause various diseases such as osteoporosis, cerebrovascular diseases, heart attacks, Alzheimer’s, or cancer. Estrogens have different functions in other organs. In the osteoarticular apparatus, it contributes to the maintenance of bone and calcium fixation. In the arteries, it facilitates the relaxation of the arterial walls, increasing the blood supply to the tissues. At the brain level, it acts on blood flow, the supply of glucose, and the growth of neurons and neurotransmitters with a positive effect on mood, state of mind, quality of sleep, and a feeling of wellbeing. At the urinary level, it acts on the mucosa of the bladder and urethra, maintaining a regular urinary frequency. On the skin, it maintains collagen levels and a healthy skin appearance.

Before reaching menopause, we can avoid the deterioration and diseases that this entails with an adequate hormonal replacement, giving our body what it needs or what it no longer produces, in this case, hormones. Avoid using synthetic hormones (conjugated hormones from the pharmaceutical industry are often associated with heart attacks, cancer, clots, fluid retention, embolisms, varicose veins, etc.) The ideal is to opt for something natural, made from sweet potato and soy protein, known as

PLASMA-E MEDICAL GROUP AND LOMELI EGUIA AND ASSOCIATES MEDICAL GROUP

Ave. Madero 998-5 and Calle B, Zona Centro, 21100 Mexicali, BC

BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES = IDENTICAL TO THOSE IN OUR BODY.

Thanks to advances in science on this subject, the opportunity is provided to offer a more natural alternative to this hormone replacement. They are hormones derived from a natural plant source, compounded to be biologically identical to the human form of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Unlike other forms of hormone therapy, bioidentical hormone replacement has few side effects.

There are several forms of application, cream (topical), injection, and the insertion of “pellets” of bioidentical hormones in a simple procedure in the office.

Get the main benefits of using pellets:

1. Cognitive protection and emotional balance

2. Osteoarticular protection

3. Reduction of hot flashes and hot flashes (hot flashes)

4. Improve sexual desire and fulfillment

5. Optimize sports performance

6. Preserve the health of our organs

Keep in mind that the best medicine is preventive—that which prevents, in the first instance, the person from getting sick. We can help you.

What is the difference between GROWING and SCALING your business?

Asbusiness owners we get excited when we see more sales, more dollars coming in, especially when you see revenue growth year over year. But after a few years of that consistent growth pattern, you start to notice another pattern emerging that gives you the opposite feeling of excitement, “dissatisfaction”.

You become dissatisfied because although your business grew, you didn’t necessarily become more profitable. You realize now that you fell into the growth trap. At this point, the business has ballooned with expenses, and you need that consistent revenue coming in just to maintain the business. Your life fills up with stress because you are always worried about it falling apart, you don’t have much room for error.

As your business was growing you added more overhead in the form of payroll, locations, products, etc. to keep up with that growing demand. This is exactly why your business has not become more profitable.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is scaling your business. This happens when your business is generating more revenue with the same number of resources, i.e., employees, locations, etc.

Some businesses are more scalable than others such as software and entertainment companies compared to service companies like restaurants, childcare, etc. That’s because most of the work goes up front in creating the product and then the work shifts on selling that same product over and over again. With all this being said, I believe you can scale any business so long as you avoid the growth trap. You do this by getting as excited about finding ways to cut expenses. It feels rewarding to hire employees but it feels terrible to let them go.

Avoid this by only hiring when it is required not desired.

You do not hire tomorrow’s employee today.

You don’t commit to adding new locations because you think you are going to expand and you don’t bring in more inventory because you think you are going to sell it.

Above all things you must maintain discipline, you have to know what is your maximum production base on your current resources before you add more.

If you do this, I promise you, you will avoid the growth trap, you will scale your business and become more profitable.

Liberando las Mentes Latinas

Por: Ambar Picasso, Psicóloga y Life Coach

PREGUNTA + PLANEA + PIDE = PODER

The Community is What Counts

During our 40 years of providing high-quality healthcare coverage, Community Health Group remains committed to serving all our members, providers, and community with compassion, cultural humility, and exceptional service.

Community Health Group began as an ambitious idea discussed in the halls of a community clinic in the mid-1970s when the winds of American health care were beginning to shift. Leaders wanted to explore broader healthcare initiatives for San Diego County while remaining true to the noble mission of service to the underprivileged and underserved.

The community clinic’s Chief Executive Officer, in 1974, began looking at the possibility of establishing a health maintenance organization to better serve San Diego’s culturally diverse population, particularly those who were medically underserved.

In May of 1982, Community Health Group was born as a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization with a six-member Board of Directors. Soon after, the County of San Diego asked Community Health Group to become the Regional Contractor for the County Medical Services Program. The goal: to manage care for medically underserved adults, a task Community Health Group took on with its mission-defining dedication to providing compassionate, culturally sensitive, and exceptional service.

Two years later, Community Health Group accomplished another milestone—when California’s Department of Health Care Services issued Community Health Group its first contract for a Primary Care Case Management Program to serve Medi-Cal patients. Community Health Group now had State and County contracts.

By the end of its tenth year in business, Community Health Group cared for 31,059 members. By our 20th year, 101,024 members. By our 30th year, 149,480 members. By February 2023, the organization manages the health care of more than 355,000 individuals.

In its 40 years of service to San Diego County, Community Health Group has grown in every direction with a large network of physicians, hospitals, pharmacies, and specialists. Our organization has a service team of nearly 360 employees, all of whom provide service with compassion, cultural humility, and excellent customer service, which has been our hallmark for those 40 years.

Norma Diaz, Chief Executive Officer, knows her team shares and lives the wisdom of the celebrated poet, Maya Angelou, who said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but they will never forget the way you made them feel.”
