live Reid’s AFB polo team started their 2021 campaign on a winning note by capturing the Committee Cup. This experienced Club team defeated Alan Fall and Stefan Sund’s Mad Dogs/ Previse 5-4 in a tight final on The Queen’s Ground. Although with 13 teams taking part in this eight-goal tournament – often played as a warm-up for the ultra-competitive Hildon Archie David Cup, just reaching the final was an achievement. AFB’s Chino Leiva was named Most Valuable Player while the opposition’s Pedro Harrison received the Best Playing Pony prize for Zeus. The sub final was equally close. Luca Natella’s La Magnolia, a new team to Guards Polo Club in 2021, came out best in this contest, defeating Vivek Rawal and Nick Beitner’s Tashan Power 7-6. ✸
