8. Beaver Scout Group – Blue Flag Activity Due to COVID-19, an activity for a scout group took place at their premises. The activity focused on Ghadira Bay and started off with an Ice-Breaking session where the participants mentioned different aspects of beach use. This led to a discussion about Blue Flag beaches and what criteria and facilities are required to achieve the certification. Later on, the participants learned about waste management practices where they were shown microplastics. This led to the participants engaging in a pledge activity where they pledged to collect microplastics when they visit sandy beaches. When a workshop is not done directly on the beach, there should be a pledge in favour of a beach action and therefore the participants will be bringing the microplastics collected in summer to the scouts premises at the end of their summer holidays.
