When you get to know Christine Leahy, our 50+ Trips & Outdoor Recreation Coordinator, you’ll know that she lives our tagline, ‘Rooted In Fun’ as an active older adult (aka senior). For Christine, being active outdoors is as necessary as breathing.

Christine joined the department in 2018 bringing 30+ years of experience in front-line program delivery, program coordination, volunteer management, and executive leadership with National Parks, state and regional parks, nature centers, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and Butterfly Pavilion, plus 8 years leading teams to create environmental educational media.

Christine lives in Lakewood with her partner and three teens/ young adults. In her free time, she’s either hiking, snowshoeing, camping, backpacking, our playing outdoor pickleball.

Susan Bennett Environmental Interpreter

Susan Bennett has been with the City as the Environmental Interpreter since 2017. The first question she is asked is, “What is an Environmental Interpreter?” So here it is… environmental interpreters facilitate emotional and intellectual connections between the visitor and the resource. In each of her workshops, Susan strives to ignite a curiosity for the natural world and inspire stewardship.

Susan is passionate about pollinators. She manages the City apiary and offers workshops about Colorado’s pollinators and beekeeping. Did you know there are almost 950 species of native bees in Colorado?

Susan also enjoys creating pollinator gardens, hiking, and skiing, as well as relaxing outside with her family.
