Beim Durchblättern der Seiten wird mir erneut bewusst, wie dankbar ich bin, dieses wunderbare Hotel zu leiten und wie viele großartige Partner, Freunde und Wegbegleiter wir in den letzten Jahren in Wien finden durften. It fills me with joy and pride to be able to present the latest issue of our Treasuries Magazine to you for the first time under my direction at the Park Hyatt Vienna.

Leafing through the pages, I realize once again how grateful I am to manage this wonderful hotel and how many great partners, friends and companions we have been able to find here in Vienna in recent years. Hermann GmeinerWagner ist der Enkel des Firmengründers und trat 1981 ins Unternehmen ein. Er führt dieses mit seiner Frau Katharina. Und das sind längst nicht alle. Berühmt ist Popp & Kretschmer auch für seine große Auswahl an Abendroben, die man bei einem Glas Champagner im ersten Stock probieren kann – Änderungen im Couture Salon inbegriffen. Ein weiteres Service: Personal Shopping mit Anpassungen und Upgrade der Garderobe. Denn so viel Luxus muss einfach sein!

Many generations of fashion lovers stood at the large shop windows of Popp & Kretschmer’s Vienna store in the heart of town and haven’t tired at the sight of the textile splendors presented there. In 1976, Peter Trefelik took over the former leather manufactory and gradually built this glamorous fashion temple, where women can come to clothe themselves from head to toe. Today, he manages the 1,400 square meter store right across from the Vienna State Opera together with his sons R ainer and Sascha. Im Café Am Hof kann man den Tag seit kurzem noch etwas besser und außergewöhnlicher beginnen lassen. „Wir wollten eine ganz eigene, spezielle Linie in unser Frühstück bringen, die anders ist als unser reichhaltiges, tolles Buffet in unserem Restaurant ‚The Bank Brasserie & Bar‘ – moderner, ausgefallener, kreativer“, erklärt Outlet-Manager Sebastian Kürner das Konzept des neuen À-la-carte-Frühstücks. Diese Idee ist voll aufgegangen: „Rund 80 Prozent unserer Gäste sind nicht aus dem Hotel, sondern Wienerinnen und Wiener, die sich gerne ein besonderes Frühstück gönnen – und das hat sich mittlerweile herumgesprochen.“ Klar, denn jedes Frühstücks-Item ist im Café Am Hof ganz individuell bestellbar und auf die etwas andere Art zubereitet. Das herkömmliche Frühstücks-Ei wird hier als „Ei im Töpfchen“ mit Schnittlauchsauce und Lachskaviar ebenso neu interpretiert wie das „Eiweiß-Omelette“ mit Spinat, Avocado, Chili und Tomate oder die traditionellen Eggs Benedict, die man wahlweise mit Beinschinken, Räucherlachs oder Avocado-Guacamole auf Brioche und Sauce hollandaise kredenzt.

A nice day starts with a good breakfast! In the Café Am Hof you can start the day even better and more unusual. “We wanted to bring our very own, special line to the breakfast served here, which is different from our rich, great buffet in our restaurant ‘The Bank Brasserie & Bar’ –more modern, unusual, more creative,” explains Outlet Manager Sebastian Kürner the concept of the new à la carte breakfast. This idea really worked: “Around 80 percent of our guests aren’t from the hotel, they’re Viennese who like to treat themselves to a special breakfast –and word has gotten around in the meantime.” Of course because every breakfast item in the Café Am Hof can be ordered individually and prepared in a different way. The conventional breakfast egg is reinterpreted here as an “egg in a pot” with chive sauce and salmon caviar, as is the “egg white omelette” with spinach, avocado, chili and tomato or the traditional Eggs Benedict, which can be served with ham, smoked salmon or avocado guacamole served on brioche and Hollandaise sauce. He is a world-class executive chef who has cooked in Hyatt restaurants from Hamburg to Tokyo. Since December, the multiple award-winning chef Stefan Mörth has been the new kitchen director at the Park Hyatt Vienna.

Zu seinen Lehrmeistern und Vorbildern zählen KochLegenden wie Eckart Witzigmann, Heinz Winkler, Alfons Schuhbeck und Heinz Reitbauer. Internationale Erfahrung hat Stefan Mörth in Spanien, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Dubai und Abu Dhabi gesammelt. Er ist preisgekrönt und haubenverwöhnt. Nach zwei Jahrzehnten im Ausland zündet der gebürtige Steirer sein kulinarisches Feuerwerk nun als Küchendirektor in den Restaurants und Bars des Park Hyatt Vienna.

Sie waren über zwei Jahrzehnte im Ausland tätig. Könnte man diesen Abschnitt Ihres Berufslebens als „Coming Home“ bezeichnen?

Das könnte man so sagen. Nach meinen langen professionellen Wanderjahren hat es mich wohl einerseits wieder in die Heimat und die steirische Landschaft mit ihren wunderschönen Bergen und meiner Familie zurückgezogen. Andererseits wohl auch wegen des tollen Angebots und der Challenge, hier im wundervollen Park Hyatt Vienna arbeiten zu können.

After two decades abroad, the native Styrian is now setting off his culinary fireworks as the kitchen director in the restaurants and bars of the Park Hyatt Vienna.

Could we call this section of your professional life “coming home”?

Yes, one could say that. On the one hand, after my long professional years of traveling, I was probably drawn back to my homeland and the Styrian landscape with its beautiful mountains and my family. On the other hand, because of the great offer and challenge here at the wonderful Park Hyatt Vienna.

You have been the head chef at various Hyatt hotels such as Hamburg, Abu Dhabi, Seoul, Tokyo, and Saigon. What fascinates you about the philosophy of the Hyatt Group?

I like this particular Hyatt philosophy “We care for people so they can be their best!”. You can try out a lot here, the food and beverage departments are very innovative, and the Hyatt restaurants are trendsetters with their concepts worldwide. As a chef, it’s a top workplace, no matter where in the world.

How would you characterize the restaurant “The Bank Brasserie & Bar”?

The concept of “The Bank” is not what one would expect from a brasserie in France, but rather very elegantly and modernly implemented. As a chef, you have a lot of culinary leeway. The best sustainable and regional products are used whenever possible. We offer an international, innovative, modern cuisine that does not neglect traditional Austrian dishes. Our Wiener Schnitzel is an absolute bestseller. The menu is changed seasonally at least three times a year.

Diese spezielle Hyatt-Philosophie „We care for people so they can be their best!“ gefällt mir. Man kann hier sehr viel ausprobieren, die Food & Beverage-Abteilungen sind sehr innovativ und die Hyatt-Restaurants gehören mit ihren Konzepten weltweit zu den Trendsettern. Als Küchenchef ein Top-Arbeitsplatz, egal wo auf der Welt.

Wie könnte man das Restaurant „The Bank Brasserie & Bar“ charakterisieren?

Das Konzept von „The Bank“ ist nicht so, wie man sich eine Brasserie in Frankreich vorstellt, sondern sehr elegant und modern umgesetzt. Von der Küche her hat man als Chef sehr viel kulinarischen Spielraum. Es werden vorzugsweise die besten nachhaltigen und regionalen Produkte verwendet, sofern es geht. Wir bieten eine internationale, innovative, moderne Küche, die allerdings auch auf Traditionelles aus Österreich nicht verzichtet. Unser Wiener Schnitzel ist ein absoluter Bestseller. Die Menükarte wird mindestens dreimal im Jahr saisonal gewechselt.

Was macht für Sie ein Hauben-Restaurant aus?

Hauben werden meiner Meinung nach für Erscheinungsbild und Konzept vergeben. Das beginnt bei der Reservierung des Tisches, der gediegenen Atmosphäre im Restaurant, der personalisierten Anrede des Gastes und natürlich der kulinarischen Auswahl auf der Speisekarte.

Haben Sie im Park Hyatt Vienna einen Lieblingsplatz?

Es ist die Gesamtheit dieses wunderbaren Hotels. Die Geschichte, das Jugendstil-Ambiente in dem einstigen Bankhaus. Allein die großzügige Raumaufteilung in der Bar und im Restaurant, wo vom Frühstück bis in die späten Abendstunden ein reges Treiben herrscht, finde ich beeindruckend und architektonisch ideal und stilvoll umgesetzt. Man kann das Park Hyatt Vienna mit keinem anderen Hyatt vergleichen – das ist das Schöne und Einzigartige hier.

What makes a “toque” restaurant for you?

It is probably always the overall appearance and concept. This begins with the reservation of the table, the elegant atmosphere in the restaurant, the personalized address of the guest, and of course, the culinary selection on the menu.

Do you have a favorite spot at the Park Hyatt Vienna?

It is the whole appearance of this wonderful hotel. The history, the Art Nouveau ambiance in this former bank building. I find the generous layout in the bar and restaurant impressive, architecturally ideal and stylishly implemented, where there is lively activity from breakfast until late in the evening. The Park Hyatt Vienna cannot be compared to any other Hyatt – that is what makes it beautiful and unique.

Nach der Ausbildung zum Koch und Kellner im Fürstenhaus Pertisau folgte eine atemberaubende Karriere mit Top-Lehrmeistern wie Heinz Winkler, Eckart Witzigmann oder Alfons Schuhbeck. 1997 begann Mörth, seine Kochkünste im Ausland hochdekoriert unter Beweis zu stellen, und machte unter anderem Stationen in Spanien, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Südkorea, Dubai oder Abu Dhabi. Insgesamt war Mörth in 5 Hotels der Hyatt-Gruppe tätig und ist seit Dezember 2022 Chef unter anderem im renommierten Haubenrestaurant „The Bank Brasserie & Bar“ im Park Hyatt Vienna.

STEFAN MÖRTH, born in Styria in 1966, wanted to become a gastronomer since childhood. After his training as a cook and waiter at the Fürstenhaus Pertisau, he followed a breathtaking career with top mentors such as Heinz W inkler, Eckart Witzigmann, or Alfons Schuhbeck. The Park Hyatt Vienna has always been celebrating gender neutral equal rights. That is why the Women@Hyatt initiative is also being implemented in an exemplary manner in the luxury hotel am Hof.

Diversity, equality and inclusion are more than just words. They are a set of ideals that have motivated the Hyatt Corporation and which have been implemented every day since the opening of the first hotel 65 years ago. The Women@Hyatt initiative was launched in 2017. A transnational working group that is specifically dedicated to the challenges and career opportunities of female employees. The Park Hyatt Vienna has already assumed a certain pioneering role under its first General Manager Monique Dekker and will continue to expand this under the new first woman in the house, Barbara Göttling. “As a woman in this industry, you know what strengths and weaknesses women have and where you have to start in order to be able to combine career and private life. We want to help and accompany our colleagues in their everyday work and beyond, offer them a kind of mentorship,” explains Göttling the concept. The actions taken are not feminist, but equal and in cooperation with male colleagues. Of the 220 employees in Park Hyatt Vienna there are currently 93 women –with gender-neutral, performance-oriented salaries. Special offers such as seminars, sports events, self-defence courses and other events are intended to further strengthen this open mind and positively influence the demanding everyday hotel life of women working in this industry.

Seit zehn Jahren ist Barbara Göttling ein treues Mitglied der Hyatt Wien-Familie. Seit April ist die passionierte Gastronomin zur neuen General Managerin des Park Hyatt Vienna avanciert. Im Gespräch verrät sie, was genau dieses Hotel und sein Team so besonders macht.

For ten years, Barbara Göttling has been a loyal member of the Hyatt Vienna family. Since April, the passionate restaurateur has advanced to become the new General Manager of Park Hyatt Vienna. In an interview, she reveals what makes this hotel and its team so special.

Sie hat die Gastro-Gene als echtes Wirtshaus-Kind aus dem Weinviertel in die Wiege gelegt bekommen und wollte nie etwas anderes werden. Nach der Tourismusfachschule und Stationen in verschiedenen 5*-Luxushotels in St. Moritz und Berlin startete Göttling ihre steile Karriere innerhalb der Hyatt-Gruppe in Wien, wo sie 2013 im Park Hyatt Vienna begann, ab 2018 als Cluster Director of Sales & Marketing für das Park Hyatt Vienna und das Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere tätig war und 2021 zum Hotel Manager des Park Hyatt Vienna aufstieg. Nun, mit 40, ist Barbara Göttling die neue General Managerin des Park Hyatt Vienna und stolz auf ihr 230-köpfiges Team.

Sie sind seit April die neue General Managerin im Park Hyatt Vienna. Was wird sich unter Ihrer Führung im Hotel ändern?

Nun, ich denke, vorerst sicher nicht sehr viel, da ich all meine Aufgaben zum Großteil schon als Hotel Managerin wahrnehmen durfte. Und, da das Hotel ausgezeichnet

As the new General Manager of Park Hyatt Vienna since April, what will change at the hotel under your leadership? Well, I don’t think that much will change for the time being. Especially not for me, since I have already taken on most of the same duties in my position as a hotel manager before. And, since the hotel is running so well, there is no need for major changes. As a general manager, it is already a great task and challenge to continue

Natürlich wird es – wie schon in den ersten zehn Jahren seit der Eröffnung – immer wieder Renovierungsarbeiten und auch neue Projekte, wie die Neugestaltung der Royal-Penthouse-Suite, geben. Es wird uns allen also sicherlich nicht langweilig werden.

Was ist das Besondere am Park Hyatt Vienna?

Ich muss schon sagen, dass ich mich überall sehr wohlfühle, aber ganz besonders in unserer Bar. Es ist die internationale Atmosphäre, sowohl was die Gäste als auch die Vielfalt der ausgezeichneten Drinks und Cocktails anlangt, und all das in einer außergewöhnlichen Architektur – ein richtiges Wohlfühl-Ambiente. Und, ein weiterer, versteckter Lieblingsort von mir ist unser Rossano Ferretti Hairspa, direkt neben unserem Arany Spa. Ein stiller, heimeliger Zufluchtsort zum Relaxen.

Verbringen Sie Ihre Urlaube auch in 5*-Luxushotels?

Nicht oft, denn mein Mann ist passionierter Apnoe-Taucher und da sind wir zumeist in ganz einfacher und entspannter Atmosphäre in Ägypten oder sonst wo am Meer. Aber ich bin oft beruflich in anderen Luxushotels gewesen und da muss ich natürlich Vergleiche ziehen – obwohl das Park Hyatt Vienna ohnehin unvergleichlich ist!

Certainly, the very special location in the heart of Vienna. Furthermore, the history, the architecture, and in addition, the opening of Park Hyatt has upgraded the entire area of the “Golden Quarter”. Do you have an absolute favorite spot at Park Hyatt?

I have to say that I feel very comfortable everywhere, but especially in our bar. It is the international atmosphere, both in terms of guests and the variety of excellent drinks and cocktails, all in an extraordinary architecture – a real feel-good atmosphere. And, another hidden favorite spot of mine is our Rossano Ferretti Hairspa, right next to our Arany Spa. A quiet, cozy refuge for relaxation.

The global Hyatt motto is “We care for people so they can be their best!” – what can we understand by that?

At the Park Hyatt Vienna guests and employees are equally important to us. Each and every one is seen and treated as an individual. People management is very important to us. Who fits where, what inclinations does he or she have, where does he or she feel most comfortable? We also want to offer a lot for the so-called work-life balance because work and life are hardly separable in our profession. For example, we offer not only regular sports activities in the “Fit 4 You” program for our team, but also healthy food in the canteen or psychological coaching. An excellent hotel lives only through its happy team.

Do you also spend your vacations in 5-star luxury hotels?

Not often, because my husband is a passionate free diver and we usually stay in a very simple and relaxed atmosphere in Egypt or elsewhere by the sea. However, I have often been to other luxury hotels for business purposes and of course, I have to make comparisons – although the Park Hyatt Vienna is incomparable anyway!

BARBARA GÖTTLING, 1983 in Wien geboren, wuchs als Jugendliche im elterlichen Gastronomiebetrieb auf. Nach der Tourismusschule Wien folgten ManagementTätigkeiten in St. Moritz, Palais Coburg Wien, Grand Hyatt Berlin, der Aufbau der Restaurant- und Eventlocation Bade schiff Wien, Managerinnen-Tätigkeit im Sofitel V ienna Stephansdom und 2013 schließlich die Rückkehr zur Hyatt-Gruppe im Park Hyatt Vienna und später auch im Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere. Im Juni 2021 hat Göttling die Position Hotelmanager im Park Hyatt V ienna übernommen und seit April 2023 ist sie als General Managerin im Hotel tätig.

BARBARA GÖTTLING , born in Vienna in 1983, grew up as a teenager in her parents’ restaurant business. She then attended the Tourism School in Vienna and held management positions in St. Moritz, at the Palais Coburg Vienna, Grand Hyatt Berlin, and was involved in the establishment of the restaurant and event location “Badeschiff, Vienna”, as well as working as a manager at the Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom. In 2013, she joined the Park Hyatt Group Vienna at the Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere and in 2021 at the Park Hyatt Vienna, where Göttling first worked as a hotel manager and has taken over as General Manager since April 2023. The Hermesvilla is located in the Lainzer Tiergarten in the posh 13th district of Vienna. Emperor Franz Joseph once gave this villa to Empress Elisabeth, the legendary Sisi – as a “castle of dreams”. He wanted to use it to keep his wife, who loved to travel, in Vienna more often.

From 1882 to 1886, the well-known “Ringstraßen” architect Carl von Hasenauer built the romantic palace, whose name is derived from the statue of Hermes in the garden. Artists such as Gustav Klimt and Franz Matsch designed the imperial private chamber. Schloss Hof, the former imperial country residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy and Maria Theresa, is Austria’s largest country palace complex with around 70 hectares. Es funkelt und glitzert ab dem Juni 2023 im MAK – dem Museum für angewandte Kunst am Stubenring 5 in Wien. Mit „Glanz und Glamour. 200 Jahre Lobmeyr“ wartet eine atemberaubende Ausstellung, die schillernde Luxuswelten in Form von fantastischem Wiener Kunsthandwerk zeigt. Ebenfalls im MAK ab 21. Juni: eine weitere Sonderausstellung zur Wiener Weltausstellung 1873. Im Fokus steht der Trend zum Orientalismus des 19. Jahrhunderts, den die Weltausstellung beflügelte. Versprochen sind exotische Welten und eine damals ungekannte Formensprache, die die westliche Welt stark inspirierte.

The victor over the Turks had a huge palace built starting in 1713, which – measured by visitor numbers – ranks fourth among all of Austria’s historical sites. The Belvedere is celebrating its jubilee year – 300 years after the completion of the Prince’s summer residence. The Upper and Lower Belvedere buildings have always been a home for art, and Prince Eugene himself was known for his numerous works of art, which he also liked to display. As Imperial art collections, these exquisite venues were among the first public museums in the world, open to all – with free admission – from 1777. Ausstellung „Klimt. Inspired by Van Gogh, Rodin, Matisse …“ im Unteren Belvedere will den wohl berühmtesten Künstler des Museums kunst- und ideengeschichtlich einordnen. Und das malerische Frühwerk von Louise Bourgeois wird als Entdeckung im Jubiläumsjahr ab 22. September im Unteren Belvedere gezeigt. Erstmals in Europa präsentierte Gemälde der 1930er und 1940er Jahre werden in Bezug zum späteren skulpturalen und grafischen Schaffen der feministischen Künstlerin gesetzt.

Generaldirektorin Stella Rollig: „Mit dem 300-jährigen Jubiläum des Belvedere feiern wir nicht nur die Entwicklungen der Vergangenheit, sondern besonders die, die vor uns liegen.“

Das Belvedere heißt nicht zufällig so – italienisch für „schöne Aussicht“. Vom Oberen Belvedere hat man einen eindrucksvollen Blick über Wien, den sich auch Besucher, die keine Zeit für die Kunstwerke haben, gönnen sollten. Die Anlage lädt zum Bummeln ein. Der Aufstieg von unten nach oben ist mittels Figuren als ein Weg vom Hades zum Olymp gestaltet.

the early work of Louise Bourgeois will be shown as a discovery exhibit in the anniversary year from September 22nd in the Lower Belvedere. Paintings from the 1930s and 1940s, shown for the first time in Europe, will be set in relation to the later sculptural and graphic work of the feminist artist.

The name “Belvedere” is no coincidence – it means “beautiful view” in Italian.
