The third edition of MARBELLA DESIGN was held from September 24th to October 3rd. Local authorities, personalities from the world of design and the media attended the launch of the most important seasonal design event in the region. The design of this edition “is a tribute to optimism in such difficult circumstances.” said Alejandro Zaia, CEO of Marbella Design. Around twenty prestigious interior designers, and almost two hundred leading design brands took part in the third edition of the exhibition, where the contract sector and yacht interior design also had a prominent presence. MARBELLA DESIGN 2020 was inaugurated for another year, in a particularly complex and delicate social and cultural context. Local authorities, personalities from the world of design and the media were present at the launch and opening ceremony of the exhibition. The presentation of the most important design event of the season was supported by the City Council, with the presence of Laura de Arce Sánchez de la Poza, General Director of Tourism for Marbella. Alejandro Zaia, CEO of Marbella Design, started the event with a few words in tribute to coronavirus victims, followed by a minute of silence. He then gave an opening speech in which he expressed his affection for the city of Marbella, and his gratitude to all those who made this third edition possible, thanks to “a special effort in special circumstances”. “Managing to be here today hasn’t been easy.” he said, highlighting and acknowledging the work done by the City Council and the team, sponsors, brands and professionals

involved. An edition full of challenges, which, nonetheless, he stressed, have not been impediments to ensuring a safe, professional event, especially important after what has happened in recent months. In his speech, he also highlighted the new design of Marbella Design, under the leadership of Creative Director, Alfonso Castellón, who aimed to emulate Marbella’s golden years with his proposal. Zaia stressed that this design “is a tribute to optimism in circumstances as difficult as those we’re going through, and a message that normality and the good times will undoubtedly return.” Marbella Design was held alongside Art Marbella, a fact that Zaia also wanted to highlight, as this was the first time in the region that an event of this nature had taken place; where art and design come together and engage in dialogue. During the presentation of Marbella Design 2020, Alfonso Castellón, Creative Director of this edition, also participated, making mention of the essence and spirit of design, and defending the value of culture and art. The presentation ceremony concluded with a speech by this year’s ambassador, Raquel Oliva, who, in her speech about Marbella Design, said that “throughout its short history, it has become an essential event for professionals and companies of the sector, thanks to its innovative proposal, its spectacular list of exhibitors, and its commitment to offering visitors a unique experience.”
