L’arte è un valore intrinseco in ognuno di noi. L’arte è inscindibile dall’atto creativo, e la creatività è inscindibile dalla vita stessa. Senza creatività non c’è vita. È la spinta creativa che da piccoli ancora in fasce, ci muove a voler imparare imitando l’altro. La voglia di riuscire a fare da sé, a raggiungere la propria autonomia, passo dopo passo, è un atto puramente creativo. Creare la vita, definire il ruolo e il raggio d’azione, capire il mondo attraverso le azioni, attraverso i pensieri è il nostro essere creativi, giorno dopo giorno. Creare è un atto di ribellione, di più, è un progetto, un pro-iectare, un gettare in avanti qualcosa. È uno sguardo sul futuro, apertura al cambiamento, alla trasformazione, scommettere e camminare verso nuovi traguardi. È un’azione pro-attiva che ha come obiettivo quello di rompere la catena, liberarci da una condizione passiva per esprimere noi stessi nel modo più completo possibile. La creatività è una caratteristica puramente umana e l’atto artistico necessita di una profonda consapevolezza di se stessi, di una comprensione profonda della propria condizione umana, di un ascolto attento di ciò che si rivela in noi. L’atto artistico è un atto che spinge l’essere umano ad andare oltre se stesso, ad esplorare condizioni, pensieri, azioni attraverso dinamiche non ancora conosciute. L’atto artistico può essere un atto di estraneazione, di allontanamento dal qui e ora. Si spezza l’abitudine. L’atto artistico è un atto scomodo, tanto critico a volte, da contorcere ogni minima certezza, è un confronto tête à tête con il proprio io, con l’altro, con il non conosciuto. Il pro-gettare deve mettere in conto la possibilità di provare l’amarezza della sconfitta e l’atto artistico è un atto di grande coraggio. È dare un senso nuovo a ciò che non si ha e per essere quello che ancora non si è. Viviamo in tempi in cui la velocità ci rende inerti e vulnerabili, in cui l’ottimizzazione e la tecnologia si insinuano impertinenti nelle nostre vite, in cui il qui e ora sembra contare più di ogni prospettiva lungimirante di evoluzione collettiva; ed è proprio ora più che mai che l’arte, l’atto creativo munito di coraggio e curiosità, di consapevolezza e ribellione, alla ricerca sempre di armonia e bellezza, è fondamentale per ricordarci l’importanza di valori umani condivisi, che vanno oltre noi stessi per aprirci verso gli altri.

Art is an intrinsic value we all possess. Art cannot be detached from the creative act, and creativity is inseparable from life itself. Without creativity, there is no life. It's the creative push that, from a young age, invites us to learn by imitating others. The desire to do things on our own and reach our own autonomy, step by step, is a purely creative act. Creating life, defining our role and range of action, understanding the world through behaviours and thoughts, is how we are being creative, day after day. Creating is an act of rebellion. What's more, it is a project: it literally means "to project", to cast forward. It means looking towards the future, opening up to change and transformation. It means taking a risk and walking towards new horizons. It is a pro-active action which aims to break the chain, to free us from a passive condition so we can express ourselves to the fullest. Creativity is a purely human characteristic and the artistic act requires deep self-awareness, a deep understanding of the human condition and the ability to listen carefully to what it reveals within us. The artistic act pushes humankind to go beyond itself, to explore conditions, thoughts, and actions through dynamics which are not yet known. The artistic act can be an act of estrangement and detachment from the here and now. Habits are broken. The artistic act is one of discomfort. It is often critical, it deforms every single certainty, it forces us to face ourselves, others and the unknown. When projecting, we must also take into account the possibility of experiencing the bitterness of defeat, so the artistic act is one of great courage. It means giving a new sense to what we do not have and becoming what we are not yet. We live in times when speed makes us inert and vulnerable, when optimisation and technology barge into our lives, when the here and now seems to count more than any long-sighted collective evolutionary perspective; and it's now more than ever that art, the creative act equipped with courage and curiosity, awareness and rebellion, constantly seeking harmony and beauty, is essential to remind us of the importance of shared human values, which are bigger than each of us and open us up to one another.

nello scrivervi queste poche righe di saluto, non nascondo la mia emozione. Credo non sia difficile comprenderla: in passato, la Maratona dles Dolomites – Enel era sempre stata una certezza, con i suoi 9.000 e più ciclisti pronti a confrontarsi con percorsi adatti a tutte le esigenze e la sua magistrale organizzazione. La pandemia, in questi ultimi 12 mesi, ci ha fatto però scoprire che nulla è scontato: nemmeno lo svolgersi della Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel. La sua edizione 2021 porterà quindi con sé emozioni mai state così vivide. In questo contesto “Ert” – il tema portante di quest’anno – si rivela più che mai azzeccato: in fondo cos’è la vita se non arte? E proprio in questo periodo in cui la sostenibilità ambientale e la tutela del patrimonio naturale stanno finalmente acquisendo peso nel dibattito pubblico e nelle scelte di sviluppo, è bello avere spunti per pensare anche alla natura come a una forma d’arte, da ammirare e da cui trarre ispirazione. Ciò non è però tutto: voglio pensare che l’arte possa vivere anche nella perfezione del gesto sportivo e nella capacità di riuscire a spingersi oltre i limiti dell’immaginazione per raggiungere i propri obiettivi. Sono certo che l’edizione 2021 della mitica Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel saprà mostrarci ancora più nel dettaglio quanto il concetto di Arte sia importante nello sport, come nella vita. Ringrazio quindi tutti i responsabili, che anche e soprattutto quest’anno sapranno assicurare la sicurezza (anche sanitaria!) della gara e auguro a tutti i partecipanti e ai tanti appassionati che seguiranno con passione le loro imprese sulle due ruote di poter vivere appieno le emozioni di questa competizione. L’Arte, in fondo, deve sapere soprattutto trasmettere questo: emozioni.
Dear friends, while writing these lines, I can not hide my emotions. I think it is not difficult to understand it: in the past, the Maratona dles Dolomites – Enel has always been a certainty, with its 9,000 and more cyclists ready to take on the tracks designed for all levels and its excellent organisation. The pandemic, in the last 12 months, made us discover that nothing is taken for granted: not even the unfolding of the Maratona dles Dolomites – Enel. Its 2021 edition will therefore bring with it emotions that have never been so vivid. In this context “Ert” the main theme of this year – is chosen perfectly well: after all, what is life if not art? It's nice to draw inspiration from nature as an art form we can to admire and glean from right now at a time when environmental sustainability and the protection of the natural landscape are finally gaining traction in the public debate and in developmental choices. But that's not all: I'd like to think that art can also exist in the perfection of the sport and in the ability to push beyond the limits of one's imagination to reach goals. I'm confident that the 2021 edition of the epic Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel will further showcase how important the concept of Art is in sport, as in life. I therefore thank all the people involved, who also and especially this year will be able to ensure safety (including health safety!) of the race and I wish that the participants and many enthusiasts watching cyclists tackle on two wheels get to fully experience the excitement of this competition. After all, this is what Art is all about: emotions.

TUTTA L’ARTE È UN'IMITAZIONE DELLA NATURA
NON SO VOI,
ma personalmente ogni volta che vedo le Dolomiti il mio cuore vola alto come un falco Vederle, sentirle, gustarle, toccarle e annusarle suscitano in me sensazioni ed emozioni uniche. Nei secoli hanno creato una simbiosi unica con l’ambiente, dando vita all’arte della procreazione naturale del bello. Una terra d’incanto, che affascina e conquista ogni escursionista che percorre i suoi sentieri, le sue strade. Illuminate dalla luna, così come dai rosei raggi del sole all’alba o al tramonto. Scolpite nella roccia, fuse tra i boschi, i prati, il cielo e la storia. Le Dolomiti sono la testimonianza dell’opera d’arte di un popolo, quello ladino, che ha saputo nei secoli conoscere, interpretare e plasmare la natura rispettandola. Ogni volta che le vedo, vengo conquistato dall’immensa opera monumentale. M’infondono riverenza, rispetto, coraggio, creatività, voglia di vivere, di andare sempre oltre. Non è un caso che l’idea di creare Monsieur, sia nata a Corvara vent’anni fa. Così come l’idea di creare Spirito di Vino e dieci anni fa l’idea di riprogettare e fondare Arbiter. Tutte testate pensate e disegnate in un taccuino tascabile ammirando il Sassongher, dopo giornate trascorse sui sentieri della Badia o Ampezzani. Del resto, come scriveva il filosofo romano Seneca “Tutta l’arte è una imitazione della natura”. Le Dolomiti sono per natura il luogo ideale dove creare nuove opere d’arte. Una formula magica, perfetta, basterà così coniugare la creatività con la cultura, la passione con la bellezza per ottenere l’ opera d’arte della 34a Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel. Il 4 luglio avremo finalmente tempo e modo, di conoscere, vedere e parlare dell’opera, finalmente compiuta.
THE ART IMITATES NATURE
I DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT, personally, whenever I see the Dolomites, my heart soars high like an eagle Seeing, hearing, tasting, touching and smelling these mountains never fails to stir up unique sensations and emotions in me. Over the centuries, they have created a unique symbiosis with their surroundings, giving rise to the art of beauty naturally procreating. An enchanting landscape that charms and wins the hearts of all hikers who come here to follow the various trails and paths, lit up by the light of the moon or by the pinkish beams of sunlight at dawn or dusk. Paths carved into the rock, blending into the forests, the meadows, the sky and the history of this place. The Dolomites bear witness to the artful work of the local Ladin people, who have successfully understood, interpreted and shaped their surrounding nature over the centuries, while always respecting it. Every time that I see these mountains, I am bowled over by how incredibly monumental they are. They fill me with awe, respect, courage, creativity and a desire to live and always go one step beyond. It is no coincidence that the idea to create Monsieur was born in Corvara, twenty years ago, as was the idea to create Spirito di Vino and, ten years ago, the inspiration to redesign and establish Arbiter. All of these publications were thought up and designed in a pocket notebook as I admired the Sassongher mountain, after days spent along the trails of Badia or Ampezzo. Then again, as the Roman philosopher Seneca once wrote, “All art imitates nature”. By their very nature, the Dolomites are the ideal place to create new works of art. A magical and perfect formula, where all you need to do is combine creativity with culture, passion with beauty, and you’ll get the work of art that is the 34th edition of the Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel. On July 4th, we’ll finally have the time and means to discover, see and discuss this work of art, as it is finally brought to completion.

Nella Ladinia di oggi, la ladinità sta lasciando il posto al LADINISMO, sostituendo i contenuti con la forma, azione tipica del consumismo, dove all’oggetto si sostituisce l’immagine di esso. Oggi, la tradizione è spettacolo, happening, prodotto fine a se stesso, infatti più che trasformazione culturale sembra una fusione tra cultura e svago, deviazione della cultura e banalizzazione dello svago. Una messa in scena sicuramente onesta ed orgogliosa da parte dei ladini, che però ricorda la pubblicità dove in effetti non esiste più l’oggetto ma la sua immagine, sostituendo la teoria dell’estetica a quella sociale. Qui l’individuo diviene soggetto ed il soggetto diviene oggetto, merce di scambio, attraverso quel terribile meccanismo di diffusione globale sui social. Ladini e turisti divengono complici, i primi addetti alla messa in scena dello spettacolo ladinista, i secondi esperti nella diffusione della tradizione come prodotto d’asporto. La tradizione, divenuta oggi merce, postata e ri-postata rimarrà poi sedimentata in qualche server, in attesa di essere in futuro rimessa in rete e recuperata come vintage, salvando nuovamente la forma e non i contenuti, e acquistando gratuitamente tutti i diritti della privacy!.
LADINISM In today’s Ladinia, ‘ladinity’ is stepping aside to make room for LADINISM, replacing content with form, which is something that is typical of consumerism, with the images of objects replacing the objects themselves. Today, tradition is about entertainment, cool events, produced for the sake of it; in fact, it appears that rather than a cultural transformation, what we are actually seeing is a blend between culture and entertainment, with a deviation away from culture and entertainment being trivialised. This is undoubtedly an honest and proud attempt by the Ladin people at putting on a show, but it does also bring to mind those adverts in which the object no longer exists, being replaced by a mere image of it, with the theory of beauty replacing social concepts. Here, individuals become the subject and the subject becomes an object, a good that can be traded, all through that terrible mechanism of spreading things globally via social media. The Ladin people and tourists become accomplices, with the Ladin people contributing to putting on the Ladin show, and the tourists becoming experts in spreading tradition as if it were some sort of take-away product.

Dopo aver conseguito il diploma di maturità artistica all’Istituto d’Arte “G. Soraperra” di Pozza di Fassa ha frequentato l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia diplomandosi nel 1998.
After receiving his high school diploma from the “G. Soraperra” Art Institute in Pozza di Fassa, he went on to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, graduating in 1998.
Nel 2016 è stato docente di “Didattica e metodologia dell’arte” presso la Libera Università di Bolzano nel dipartimento di “Scienze dell'educazione” e dal 1994 insegna “Laboratorio di Figurazione Artistica” presso il Liceo Artistico “G. Soraperra ”di Sen Jan di Fassa.
In 2016, he taught ‘Didactics and methodology in art’ at the Educational Sciences department of Bolzano’s Librera University and, since 1994, he has taught the ‘Artistic Figuration Laboratory’ at the “G. Soraperra” high school specialised in art, in Sen Jan di Fassa.

Le Dolomiti sono una delle più grandi opere d'arte della natura. La bellezza creata dalle forze naturali nel corso di milioni di anni ci richiama tutti in questo luogo magico, anno dopo anno. Anche il ciclismo può essere visto come una forma d'arte e nessuno qui questa settimana dissentirebbe sul fatto che una bella bicicletta è, essa stessa, un'opera d'arte. Quando vediamo una macchina a due ruote lucida, nuova, super leggera e perfetta, le nostre pupille si dilatano proprio come quando guardiamo un Tintoretto o un Michelangelo. Desideriamo guardare da vicino e saperne di più sulla creazione che ha catturato il nostro sguardo. Inoltre, quando i rappresentanti della nostra arte come i campioni del mondo Maurizio Fondriest o Lizzie Deignan scendono in strada, siamo in soggezione per la perfezione di cui siamo testimoni. Uomo e macchina in perfetta armonia. Questi ragazzi non sono famosi solo per aver vinto, ma per l'eleganza, lo stile e l'arte con cui l'hanno fatto. Artisti atletici all'apice del loro talento. Ora veniamo alla Maratona. L'evento per il quale siamo tutti accorsi in Alta Badia racchiude tutto questo e molto di più. Lo spettacolo di novemila ciclisti che affrontano queste incredibili montagne è veramente imperdibile. La maggior parte di noi avrà familiarità con le granfondo e alcuni avranno partecipato a molte di queste gare. Ciò che rende diversa la Maratona non è solo il luogo, ma l'organizzazione. Tutte le persone coinvolte, dal comitato ai volontari, creano un capolavoro senza pari. Nel linguaggio comune quando ci riferiamo al processo di perfezionamento di un compito da parte dei lavoratori diciamo che "hanno trasformato il loro lavoro in una forma d'arte". Niente di più vero per le persone che organizzano quest’evento: ci fanno sentire i benvenuti e ci regalano la migliore giornata in bicicletta che sia possibile avere. È difficile separare l'arte dalla bellezza o la bellezza dall'arte. La Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel è bellissima. Ma è anche, a mio modesto parere, arte.

The Dolomites are one of nature's greatest works of art. The beauty crafted by natural forces over millions of years is what draws us all to this magical place year after year. Cycling can also be seen as an art form and nobody here this week would disagree that a beautiful bicycle is, itself, a piece of art. When we see a shiny, new, super-light, perfect two wheeled machine our pupils dilate just the same as when we look at a Tintoretto or a Michelangelo. We want to look closely and see more of what has gone into the creation that has caught our gaze. . Further, when proponents of our art such as world champions Maurizio Fondriest or Lizzie Deignan take to the road we are in awe of the perfection we are witnessing. Human and machine in perfect harmony. These guys aren't just famed for having won things, they are famed for the elegance, style and artfulness with which they have done so. Athletic artists at the very top of their game. Now we come to Maratona. The event we've all descended upon Alta Badia for comprises all of the above, and more. The spectacle of nine thousand riders tackling the incredible mountains is truly a sight to behold. Most of us will be familiar with cyclosportives and some will have experienced many. What makes Maratona different is not just the location but the organisation that goes into it. Everyone involved, from the Committee to the volunteers, creates a masterpiece with no equal. It is common parlance to refer to the process of workers perfecting a task as having 'turned their jobs into an art form'. Nothing could be more true of the people here - they make us feel welcome and give us the best day on a bike that it is possible to have. It's hard to separate art from beauty or beauty from art. The Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel is beautiful. It is also, in my humble opinion, art.

ARTE E ARTIGIANATO NELLE VALLI LADINE Le valli ladine non vantano soltanto bellezze naturali incomparabili, ma godono di un patrimonio artistico di notevole valore. Nei secoli passati l'artigianato artistico ha svolto un ruolo economicamente importante in quasi tutta la Ladinia. È interessante osservare come nelle diverse vallate si sia sviluppata una produzione specifica, molto specializzata e complessivamente di buon livello qualitativo, che ha contribuito a uno sviluppo socioeconomico in seno a una società in prevalenza contadina.

ART AND CRAFTSMANSHIP IN THE LADIN VALLEYS The Ladin valleys not only boast unparalleled natural beauty, but also enjoy an incredibly valuable artistic heritage. Over the past centuries, artistic craftsmanship has played an important economic role in almost all of Ladinia. It is interesting to note how different valleys have developed their own specific and highly specialised areas of production, with a high overall level of quality, contributing to social and economic development in a society that is mainly rural.

A Cortina d'Ampezzo si sviluppa sul finire del diciottesimo e soprattutto in quello successivo, l'arte della filigrana d'argento che gli artigiani ampezzani, noti per la loro attitudine ai valori artistici e per l'estro creativo, hanno appreso dagli orafi veneziani.
Towards the end of the 19th century, and especially in the subsequent decades, Cortina d’Ampezzo witnessed the development of the art of silver filigree, which the local craftsmen, famous for their tendency towards artistic values and creative flair, learnt from Venetian goldsmiths.

THE ‘PITORES’ OF VAL DI FASSA
In Val di Fassa sono attivi i pitores, pittori itineranti che soprattutto nel diciannovesimo secolo, attraversando i valichi alpini, si spingono oltre il Tirolo per prestare il loro servizio in Austria, Germania, Svizzera e in Ungheria. L'uso ardito del colore, lo stile peculiare e lo spiccato decorativismo sono gli elementi che contraddistingue l’arte di questi pittori itineranti che di paese in paese e di porta in porta offrono il proprio servizio a domicilio.
Val di Fassa is home to the ‘pitores’, travelling painters who, especially during the 19th century, crossed the Alps to move towards the Tyrol, going on to offer their services in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Hungary. A bold use of colour and an unusual, strongly decorative style are the distinguishing characteristics of the art of these travelling painters, who move from town to town, door to door, offering their services to people.

In Val Badia si sfrutta invece una materia prima disponibile in abbondanza: il legno. Qui sono attivi numerosi falegnami specializzati nella produzione delle tipiche cassapanche che ancora oggi si trovano un po' ovunque in valle.
Artists in Val Badia, on the other hand, make use of a raw material that is available in abundance: wood. Here, many carpenters are specialised in the production of traditional wooden chests, which are still common throughout the valley.

Le miniere di ferro del Fursil a Colle Santa Lucia sono davvero antiche: il primo documento storico risale al 1177. Sono state per secoli una delle risorse economiche più importanti del Fodom e per ammirarle da vicino basta prendere la Strada da la Vena che collega le Miniere del Fursil con il Castello di Andraz, il Passo Valparola con Alfur a Piccolino in Badia. Dal secolo scorso non sono più utilizzate.
The Fursil iron mines in Colle Santa Lucia are truly ancient: the first historical document referring to them dates back to 1177. For centuries, they were one of the most important economic resources in Fodom. To admire them close-up, simply take the ‘Strada da la Vena’ path that links the Fursil mines with the Andraz Castle and the Valparola Pass with Alfur in Piccolino, in Badia. The mines have not been used since the last century.

L'arte scultorea in Val Gardena si può far risalire al 1634, anno in cui è menzionato per la prima volta lo scultore Christian Trebinger. La dinastia più importante in tutta la valle è quella dei Vinatzer, attivi durante il diciottesimo secolo e noti per le sculture a carattere sacro di buon livello qualitativo destinate alle chiese e alle cappelle del Tirolo. Sulla scia di questo successo, inizia ben presto una produzione parallela da parte di dilettanti senza istruzione specifica, ovvero di quei contadini che possono sfruttare la relativa inoperosità dei mesi invernali per realizzare piccoli oggetti di legno che sono venduti su scala sempre più ampia dai cosiddetti crameri (venditori ambulanti). La produzione si svolge principalmente entro le mura domestiche e ben presto ci si specializza nella realizzazione della cosiddetta chiena, ovvero piccoli giocattoli in legno che con il tempo diventano sempre più ingegnosi e ambiti. Leggenda vuole che scultori gardenesi giungano a piedi fino in Portogallo e al Mar Baltico con le gerle colme di preziosi oggetti in legno.
Sculpture in Val Gardena is documented as dating back to 1634, which is when the sculptor Christian Trebinger was mentioned for the first time. This valley's most important dynasty is that of the Vinatzers, who worked during the 18th century and were famous for their high-quality, sacred sculptures destined for churches and chapels in the Tyrol. In the wake of this success, amateur sculptors without any specific training soon began to work in parallel with the Vinatzers; these were often farmers who could use their relatively quiet winters to make small wooden objects that went on to be sold on an increasingly large scale by the so-called ‘crameri’ (travelling salesmen). These objects were mainly made at home and the sculptors soon specialised in creating ‘chiena’, small wooden toys that, over time, became increasingly ingenious and grew in popularity. Legend has it that Gardena's sculptors arrived all the way to Portugal and the Baltic Sea with their panniers full of precious wooden objects.

THE PAST PEDALS INTO THE HERE AND NOW The Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel is opening a window on the past, bringing it to the present day. Using the stickers technique that is so well-loved by street artists, huge graffiti images are featured along the route this year, depicting key elements of Ladin artistic craftsmanship. This project was entrusted to the students of the “Giuseppe Soraperra” from Sèn Jan, Fassa. We would like to thank the students of the 4th class of Figurative Arts: Roberto Bolgiani, Fabiana Bonelli, Matteo Bottarelli, Nicola Gualdi, Sofia Luci, Vittoria Pedrotti, Chiara, Scarangella, Irene Tabanelli, Alex Volcan, the substitute school headmaster prof. E IL TRAGUARDO DELLA BELLEZZA With Michil and Claudio, our cycle of interviews dedicated to the people who make the Maratona (in the literal sense!) comes to an end. We asked them our regular 10 questions and here's what they had to say.
Con Michil e Claudio si chiude il cerchio delle interviste dedicate a chi la Maratona la fa, nel vero senso della parola. Anche a loro abbiamo posto le solite dieci domande, ed ecco le risposte.

Fai parte del comitato organizzatore: di cosa ti occupi in particolare? You are on the organisation committee. What do you deal with in particular? Michil: Sono campione mondiale nel rompere le scatole a tutti e olimpionico nel delegare. Michil: I'm a world champion at annoying everyone and an Olympic gold medallist at delegating.
Claudio: Sono nel Comitato organizzatore da 24 anni quando, grazie a Michil, ho avuto la possibilità di diventare il segretario del comitato prima e direttore poi. Mi occupo in particolare dei rapporti con le istituzioni per le autorizzazioni, le sponsorizzazioni, la gestione e il controllo generale della manifestazione. Claudio: I have been a member of the Organising Committee for the last 24 years, after Michil gave me the opportunity to become committee secretary, after which I went on to become director. My job is to liaise with the authorities to organise permits, as well as dealing with sponsorships and managing and overseeing the event.
È molto tempo che dai una mano alla Maratona? / Have you been helping with the Maratona for long? Questa domanda mi fa sentire molto vecchio, se fossi un saggio direi antico. Dalla preistoria. This question makes me feel very old, as if I were a wise sage. From way back in the prehistoric era.
Ho iniziato nel 1990 con i controlli alla partenza e sul passo Fedaia, quando ancora si timbravano i cartellini di passaggio. Poi mi sono occupato del servizio cronometraggio all’arrivo e dal 1994 sono passato all’inserimento di tutti gli iscritti nel database. Diciamo che ho fatto una vera e propria gavetta prima di dedicarmi a tempo pieno alla Maratona dal 1997. I began back in 1990, carrying out all the necessary checks at the starting line and on the Fedaia pass (when we still had to stamp the race cards). I went on to take care of the timekeeping service at the finish line and, in 1994, I began the job of entering all participants into the database. Let’s say that I completed a sort of apprenticeship before beginning to work on the Maratona full time in 1997.
Dove sei durante la corsa? / Where are you during the race? A notte fonda in zona partenza, poi a rilassarmi in studio televisivo (ma non mi avete mai notato?), poi a complimentarmi e a godere con i ciclisti e infine alla premiazione. In the dead of night at the starting line, then to relax in the television studio (have you never spotted me there?!), then off to hang out with and congratulate the cyclists. Lastly at the award ceremony.
La mattina mi trovo alla partenza dove ho il compito di dare lo sparo iniziale, una bella emozione ogni volta. Dopodiché mi sposto nella cabina di regia della RAI per supportare il regista e gli ospiti con informazioni sull’andamento della corsa e delle immagini prodotte dall’elicottero. On the morning of the event, you’ll find me at the start line where it’s my job to fire the starting shot - always such a great feeling! After that, I move to the RAI control booth to help the director and guests there, providing updates on how the race is going and the helicopter footage.
Hai una storiella divertente da raccontarci? / Do you have any funny stories to tell us? Avrei da raccontare quanti amori ho visto nascere e disfarsi. Ma per la privacy non posso. I have many tales to tell of love stories I've seen blossom and wilt. But, out of privacy, I cannot share them with you.

Quando ancora si partiva da Pedraces, trent’anni fa, una mezz’ora dopo la partenza si sono presentati due tedeschi su una Fiat 500 arrivati direttamente dalla Germania con a bordo valigie e biciclette. Avevano perso la partenza ma volevano lo stesso partecipare. Gli abbiamo dato tutta la documentazione e li abbiamo fatti partire. A metà gara i due si sono visti arrivare tutti i partecipanti contromano. Ahimè, dalla fretta non avevano letto bene la planimetria e stavano percorrendo la gara al contrario. Thirty years ago, when the Maratona still used to start from Pedraces, two Germans arrived in a Fiat 500 about half an hour after the race had got underway; they’d arrived directly from Germany with their luggage and bikes on board. They had missed the start of the race but still wanted to take part, so we gave them all the necessary paperwork and off they went! About half-way through the race, they saw all the other participants arriving from the other direction. Poor them! They had been in such a rush that they hadn’t read the route plan properly and were cycling the Maratona in the wrong direction!

Credo che l’arte sia la massima espressione della bellezza del mondo senza essere dettata da regole. Quest’anno il tema ha ancora più valore perché reca con sé un messaggio di speranza. I believe that art is the best possible expression of our beautiful world, without being defined by rules and regulations. This year, the ‘art’ theme is even more valuable as it delivers a message of hope.

L’arte del pedalare può portare al traguardo della bellezza? Can the art of cycling lead you to achieve beauty? Questa è una domanda alla Oscar Wilde. Preferisco un dialogo socratico. This sounds like an Oscar Wild question. I prefer a more Socratic dialogue.
Quale strumento migliore della bicicletta c’è per godere della bellezza del territorio? Se poi aggiungi la passione, che equivale alla bellezza interiore, il completamento dell’opera è assicurato. What better way to enjoy all the beauty this area has to offer than by bike? If you then add plenty of passion, a sign of inner beauty, then a true work of art is guaranteed.
Ci sali in bicicletta? Vale a dire, pedali o la guardi solo da lontano? Do you get on a bike? I mean, do you cycle or watch from afar? Certo che ci salgo, ma preferisco scendere. I cycle, of course, but I prefer getting off!
Negli ultimi anni io e la bicicletta da corsa abbiamo un rapporto difficile, la trascuro un po’ troppo. Poi sinceramente ho scoperto la E-Bike che mi consente di scoprire ancora di più il nostro territorio e di godere dei momenti molto piacevoli con gli amici. Over the last few years, I have had quite a difficult relationship with my road bike, and I’ve been neglecting her a little too much. I must admit that I have also started riding e-bikes, which allow me to discover even more of this stunning area while having a great time with friends.

Sempre di meno, da qualche anno a questa parte non arrivo a 1.000 km. La speranza comunque in futuro è di ritornare a pedalare di più. I've been cycling less and less, and it’s been a few years now that I can no longer reach 1,000 km. However, I’m hoping to dedicate more time to cycling in the future.
Qual è il tuo passo preferito? / Which is your favourite pass? Il passo della sentinella, storico valico alpino delle Dolomiti. The Passo della Sentinella (Sentinel's Pass), a legendary Alpine crossing in the Dolomites.
Sinceramente non ho un passo preferito, amo però i passi ben soleggiati e che ti portano a scrutare orizzonti in costante cambiamento. If I’m honest, I don't really have a favourite mountain pass, but I do love those really sunny passes that make you gaze out over constantly changing horizons.
Descrivi la Maratona in tre parole. Describe the Maratona in three words. Sono indeciso tra: “Arte a pedali” o “pedalare ad arte” I'm undecided between: "the Art of Cycling" or "Cycling artfully"
Sono particolarmente legato a questo evento, per me la Maratona è il passato, il presente e se Dio vuole anche il futuro. I have a special bond with this event; for me, the Maratona is all about the past, the present and, God willing, also the future.

Quest’anno, essendo l’arte il tema guida della Maratona, abbiamo chiesto un prezioso aiuto alla rinomata scuola d’arte di Ortisei “Cademia” per realizzare i premi della 34a edizione. Sono stati gli studenti della 4a e 5a classe del Liceo Artistico, sezione design e della 3a e 4a classe della Scuola Professionale per l'Artigianato Artistico, sezione scultura, a progettare i trofei secondo criteri originali e creativi. Del resto è risaputo, la Val Gardena è patria di scultori e pittori da secoli.
IL TROFEO ENEL, che verrà consegnato al vincitore e alla vincitrice assoluti della 34a edizione della Maratona dles Dolomites – Enel, e il Trofeo Selle Italia, che premia la società miglior classificata, sono stati concepiti e realizzati dal Liceo Artistico. Fra i lavori presentati è stato scelto quello di Omar Obletter. Il giovane artista ha scelto di usare una forma astratta per rappresentare la "M" del logo della Maratona sulla quale ha posizionato una bicicletta, il simbolo della gara.
IL TROFEO PER I VINCITORI DELLE VARIE CLASSIFICHE INDIVIDUALI è stato concepito e realizzato dalla Scuola Professionale per l'Artigianato Artistico. Fra i lavori presentati, la scelta è andata al progetto di Isaak Demetz. Il giovane scultore ha ideato un trofeo dalle linee semplici e pulite da poter tenere facilmente in mano. I due cerchi rappresentano una bici stilizzata che poggiano sulla parte in legno di tiglio a simboleggiare la montagna e la salita.

Considering that the main theme for this year’s Maratona is art, we asked the renowned “Cademia” art school in Ortisei for some precious help to make the awards for the 34th edition. Students from Year 4 and Year 5 at the high school specialising in art (design department) and from Year 3 and Year 4 in the ‘vocational school for artistic craftsmanship’ (sculpture department) designed the trophies, basing themselves on original and creative criteria. Then again, everyone knows that the Gardena Valley has been home to great sculptors and painters for centuries.
THE ENEL TROPHY, which will be handed over to the overall winners of the 34th edition of the Maratona dles Dolomites – Enel, and the Selle Italia Trophy, which will go to the best teams, were designed and produced by the ‘Liceo Artistico’ (high school specialising in art). The work by Omar Obletter was selected from among the various pieces submitted. This young artist chose to depict the M from the Maratona logo in an abstract way, positioning a bicycle on top of it to symbolise the race.
THE TROPHY FOR THE WINNERS OF THE VARIOUS INDIVIDUAL CATEGORIES was designed and produced by the ‘Scuola Professionale per l'Artigianato Artistico’ (‘vocational school for artistic craftsmanship’). The design by Isaak Demetz was selected from among the various pieces submitted. This young sculptor designed a simple, clean-cut trophy that is easy to hold. The two circles, representing a stylised bicycle, rest on a lime wood base, symbolising the mountain and the climb.

GIOVANI ARTISTI CRESCONO Il Liceo Artistico "Cademia" si distingue per l’ampia offerta formativa nell'ambito artistico e per un'approfondita applicazione delle varie tecniche lavorative e artistiche nei laboratori. Il liceo permette di acquisire conoscenze e competenze generali e specifiche, che abilitano allo studio accademico e allo sviluppo del percorso professionale. Caratteristico di ogni scuola ladina è anche il sistema scolastico paritetico con insegnamento in lingua tedesca e italiana. La lingua ladina rappresenta un arricchimento aggiuntivo per l'orientamento plurilingue della scuola, mentre l'inglese è insegnato come lingua straniera, oltre ad essere nel triennio anche veicolo d'insegnamento per vari contenuti. Il Liceo Artistico ha come obiettivo principale lo studio della comparazione estetica e l'apprendimento della creazione artistica; promuove pertanto la capacità di confrontarsi con evoluzioni storico-artistiche e opere d'arte di rilievo. Il liceo abilita gli studenti a esprimersi artisticamente attraverso gli strumenti più vari. La Scuola Professionale per l'Artigianato Artistico “Cademia” offre und ciclo di tre o quattro anni di corsi formativi a tempo pieno per il conseguimento rispettivamente della qualifica professionale e del diploma professionale per intagliatrice/intagliatore in legno e policromatrice/policromatore. Dall’anno scolastico 2015/16 la scuola propone anche il quinto anno di formazione che termina con l’esame di Stato di scuola superiore di secondo grado.

YOUNG ARTISTS ON THE UP The "Cademia" high school specialising in art stands out for its extensive range of artistic subjects as well as for its in-depth application of various processing and artistic techniques in its workshops. This school allows students to acquire both general and specific knowledge and skills, allowing them to continue their studies and develop their careers. A characteristic of every Ladin school is also the joint educational system here, with lessons being taught in both German and Italian. The Ladin language further enriches the multilingual approach of the school, with English also being taught as a foreign language as well as being used to teach various content over the three-year course. The main goal of this Liceo Artistico is to study aesthetic comparisons and learn about artistic creation; it therefore nurtures students’ ability to measure their work against historical-artistic trends and famous works of art. This high school allows students to express themselves artistically through a vast range of different tools. The “Cademia” vocational school for artistic craftsmanship offers three or four-year full-time training courses, respectively awarding students with a professional qualification and professional diploma as wood carvers and specialists in polychrome painting. Since the 2015/16 academic year, the school has also been proposing a fifth year of study, finishing with the upper secondary school state exams.

Con il loro fascino e la loro verticalità che unisce terra e cielo, le Dolomiti hanno ispirato numerosi artisti in vari campi, dalla letteratura alla scultura, dalla fotografia alla pittura. Dino Buzzati, scrittore alpinista, descrive così le Pale di San Martino: "Sono pietre o sono nuvole? Sono vere oppure è un sogno?". I primi pittori a ritrarre i Monti Pallidi, caratterizzandoli fortemente con i canoni tipici del periodo romantico, sono i viaggiatori inglesi che arrivano in prossimità di queste montagne nella seconda metà dell'Ottocento. I pittori e disegnatori che le percorrono soli o al seguito di geologi e scalatori, restano allibiti davanti ai frastagliati profili di queste formazioni dal colore inconfondibile bianco-rosato. Una vasta produzione di incisioni, disegni e acquerelli è pubblicata e diffusa in vari testi divulgativi in tutta Europa, come ad esempio nel libro della giornalista americana Amelia B. Edwards, uscito a Londra nel 1873 con il titolo Untrodden Peaks and Unfrequented Valleys (cime inviolate e valli solitarie). Josiah Gilbert illustra le Dolomiti con disegni e acquerelli nel libro The Dolomite Mountains, scritto insieme al geologo George Churchill tra il 1861 e il 1863. Altri pittori certamente da menzionare sono l'austriaco Thomas Ender (1793-1875), la sudtirolese Johanna Isser Grossrubatscher (1802-1917), il londinese Edward Theodore

A modo loro, e con estrema originalità, hanno ritratto le Dolomiti anche Fortunato Depero (1892-1969) e Riccardo Schweizer (1925-2004). Di particolare rilievo sono anche le opere commissionate durante la prima guerra mondiale ai cosiddetti "pittori di guerra", artisti arruolati per ritrarre scene di battaglia, gesti di eroismo, panorami e momenti di vita militare. Trattandosi di un territorio votato al turismo, non si possono dimenticare i manifesti pubblicitari, affidati negli anni Trenta e Quaranta del Novecento a famosi artisti come l'austriaco Franz Lenhart.

With their charming peaks linking the earth to the sky, the Dolomites have been a source of inspiration for countless artists in various fields, from literature to sculpture, from photography to painting. Dino Buzzati, a writer-mountaineer, described the Pale di San Martino massif as follows: “Are they made from rock or clouds? Are they real or are they a dream?”. The first painters to depict the Dolomites were the English travellers who arrived near to these mountains in the second half of the 19th century, strongly influenced by the Romantic style that was typical at the time. The painters and illustrators who explored these mountains, alone or following geologists and climbers, were astounded at the jagged sides of these formations, with their unmistakeable white-pinkish colour. A vast number of carvings, drawings and watercolours were shared in various publications throughout Europe, such as the book by the American journalist Amelia B. Edwards, published in London in 1873, entitled Untrodden Peaks and Unfrequented Valleys. Josiah Gilbert illustrated the Dolomites with drawings and watercolours in the book The Dolomite Mountains, written together with the geologist George Churchill between 1861 and 1863.

Other noteworthy painters included the Austrian artist Thomas Ender (1793-1875), Johanna Isser Grossrubatscher from South Tyrol (1802-1917) and Edward Theodore Comton from London (1849), who was also a mountaineer and could therefore depict his adventurous climbs using only basic equipment in an extraordinary way. Then there was Luigi de Zanna from Cortina (1858-1918), the Austrian Gustav Jahn (1879-1919), Camillo Rasmo from Trento (1876-1965) and Francesco Vitalini from the Marche region (1865-1905). Fortunato Depero (1892-1969) and Riccardo Schweizer (1925-2004) also depicted the Dolomites in their own, extremely original way. The works commissioned during the First World War are also particularly significant, when “war painters” were appointed to depict battle scenes, acts of heroism, the landscape and what life was like in the military. Tra i pittori ladini, è senz’altro da menzionare Josef Moroder Lusenberg, artista di Ortisei autore di scene di genere e paesaggi, svolti con accurata esecuzione e con una gamma cromatica sempre più brillante ed espressiva. Le Dolomiti sono ritratte anche nel più famoso western a fumetti italiano. Aurelio Galleppini, in arte Galep, per illustrare le storie di Tex Willer e i paesaggi del suo West, fatti di valli, picchi e costoni, s’ispira alle montagne del Trentino. Oltre a destare l'interesse di pittori e illustratori, il modo straordinario con cui queste montagne reagiscono alla luce alimenta lo spirito artistico di fotografi di grande valore quali Franz Dantone (1839-1909), Gian Battista Unterveger (1833-1912), Giuseppe Ghedina (1825-96) e, in anni più recenti, Jakob Tappeiner (1937), Georg Tappeiner (1964), Walter Niedermayr (1952) e Kurt Moser (1966). Famous Ladin painters include Josef Moroder Lusenberg, an artist from Ortisei who created genre scenes and landscapes with extreme precision, using an increasingly bright and expressive range of colours. The Dolomites have also been depicted in Italy’s most famous western comic. Aurelio Galleppini (Galep art) illustrated the stories of Tex Willer and the landscapes of his Wild West, with its valleys, peaks and ridges - all inspired by Trentino's mountains. As well as sparking the interest of painters and illustrators, the extraordinary way in which these mountains react to the light has also inspired the artistic spirit of top photographers, such as Franz Dantone (1839-1909), Gian Battista Unterveger (1833-1912), Giuseppe Ghedina (1825-96) and, in more recent years, Jakob Tappeiner (1937), Georg Tappeiner (1964), Walter Niedermayr (1952) and Kurt Moser (1966). SMACH è un progetto-concorso di land art a cadenza biennale che nasce nel 2012 giunto alla quinta edizione. I dieci artisti coinvolti, provenienti da tutto il mondo e selezionati da una giuria internazionale, espongono all’aria aperta le opere concepite secondo un criterio preciso: la combinazione fra arte e natura. Lo scopo di SMACH, associazione culturale senza scopo di lucro, è stimolare, attraverso l’installazione delle opere in luoghi simbolici e altamente suggestivi, l'interesse delle persone verso l'arte e valorizzare il contesto paesaggistico della Val Badia. Attraverso un dialogo tra arte e natura, gli artisti promuovono così una coscienza approfondita e continua degli aspetti storici, culturali e tradizionali dell'area in cui agiscono, le Dolomiti. La Val dl’Ert, dal ladino Valle dell’Arte, è un parco di sculture situato nella località di San Martino in Badia. Si tratta della mostra permanente delle sculture acquisite durante le varie edizioni del concorso d’arte SMACH. Adagiate in un bosco alpino, in un tratto intatto e appartato, è possibile ammirare le opere realizzate da artisti provenienti da tutto il mondo. SMACH is a land art project-competition that takes place every two years; first launched in 2012, it is now in its fifth edition. The ten artists involved, coming from all over the world and selected by an international panel of judges, display their work in the open air, with each piece based on a very specific theme: the combination of art and nature. SMACH is a non-profit cultural association whose goal is to display works of art in symbolic and highly evocative settings in order to stimulate people’s interest in art and enhance the landscape of the Badia Valley. By combining art and nature, the artists nurture a deep and ongoing awareness of the historical, cultural and traditional aspects of the area where their work is on display - the Dolomites. Val dl’Ert, Ladin for ‘Art Valley’, is a park of sculptures in the town of San Martino, in Badia. This is a permanent exhibition of the sculptures created during the various editions of the SMACH art competition. The works by artists from all over the world can be admired in this untouched and secluded corner of an alpine forest. Art and natural surroundings create a complementary relationship of mutual enrichment, with these two worlds constantly interacting with one another. Visitors can spend a few hours enjoying the peace and quiet, soaking in the beautiful and highly evocative nature that surrounds them. Val dl’Ert is designed to be a work in progress: the collection is added to after every edition and aims to be a concept space open to a wide range of cultural initiatives.

For more than ten years now, every winter we have had the initiative called Sciare con gusto, i.e. A Taste for Skiing, with dishes prepared by starred chefs, including international ones, and served in the mountain huts, while in summer events follow each other everywhere. You can rest assured that while vines do not grow at high altitudes, there is plenty of good wine.

Riparte la Maratona e riparte perciò anche il Maratona Village a San Leonardo in Badia. Del resto, senza il luogo d’incontro preferito dalle migliaia di ciclisti e visitatori che si aggirano curiosi fra gli stand, la Maratona non sarebbe la stessa cosa. A partire da giovedì sera è di nuovo possibile divertirsi e incontrarsi fra un mare di novità e curiosità per tutte le età. Per le note ragioni, l’accesso è limitato a un numero massimo di persone e chiediamo a tutti la piena collaborazione. Sarà comunque una bella festa.
Trenta operatori e molte personalità Anche quest’anno il villaggio sarà animato da oltre trenta operatori e curiosando fra i vari stand è possibile incontrare e conoscere i personaggi illustri e le personalità che sono a disposizione del pubblico per interviste, scambi di battute, autografi e scatti improvvisati. Come di consueto e molto attese, giorno dopo giorno le nostre aziende amiche sveleranno in anteprima novità molto interessanti.
Novità e curiosità Pinarello con le sue biciclette avveniristiche e Selle Italia con il sistema innovativo per trovare la giusta sella saranno ancora una volta insieme a noi, così come Kask+Koo che presenteranno la nuova collezione di occhiali e caschi. Rigamonti delizierà i partecipanti con finger food a base di bresaola mentre Enervit sarà a disposizione del pubblico per consigliare l’uso dei prodotti energetici sul percorso. Nello stand Pirelli i nostri amici ciclisti potranno usufruire del servizio di controllo pneumatici. Mapei, che da anni anima questa tre giorni con successo, conferma la sua presenza, così come Enel ed Audi con i loro spazi ultra-tecnologici nei quali è possibile scoprire il fantastico mondo dell’auto elettrica.
Dedicato a tutti i buongustai Chiamarlo angolo gastronomico è alquanto riduttivo: l’area riservata alla degustazione dei diversi prodotti degli espositori si fa ancora più grande con la presenza di tanti amici come Segafredo, Cantine Maschio, Rigamonti, Rio Mare, Loacker, Foodness, Exquisa e Parmigiano Reggiano.
Due shop in uno Fra le novità più importanti c’è l’ampliamento del Maratona Shop, che quest’anno si sdoppia in due negozi: il più grande all’interno della palestra e il più piccolo all’esterno. Di conseguenza, anche il deposito bici si rinnova e s’ingrandisce: dato che il servizio Shuttle quest’anno non è possibile, consigliamo a tutti di raggiungere il Village in bici. Un po’ di allenamento pre-gara è di certo consigliato. Nel Maratona Shop, grazie alla riconfermata collaborazione con Castelli che produce i prodotti ufficiali firmati Maratona dles Dolomites – Enel, si potranno acquistare le bellissime felpe e t-shirt per il tempo libero, compresa l’originale e coloratissima divisa da bici, con tutti i relativi accessori: guanti, calzini, gambali e bracciali per godersi le uscite in bicicletta in ogni occasione. E sempre in questo spazio Kask propone il nuovo Mojito personalizzato Maratona.
Green Corner A conferma della sensibilità della Maratona verso i temi ambientali è confermato anche il “Green Corner”: in questo spazio alcuni nostri amici volontari aiuteranno i visitatori a fare la raccolta differenziata. Infine è da sottolineare l’importante sforzo degli espositori che cercheranno di contenere al massimo la plastica usando o la carta oppure plastica biodegradabile. A questo punto non rimane altro che augurarvi buon divertimento al Maratona Village, luogo d’incontri, scoperte e divertimento per tutti.

il Maratona Village a San Leonardo è il luogo d’incontro di tutti i maratoneti.
The Maratona is back, and so is the Maratona Village in San Leonardo, in Badia. After all, the Maratona just wouldn’t be the same without the favourite meeting place of the thousands of cyclists and visitors who come here to browse the numerous stands. Starting from Thursday evening, it will once again be possible to have fun and meet up with others, enjoying a wide array of new features and attractions for all ages. For obvious reasons, access to the village will be limited to a maximum number of people and we ask for everyone’s full cooperation. It’ll be a great party in any case.
Thirty operators and plenty of personalities Once again this year, the village will be brought to life by over thirty operators. As visitors browse the various stands, they will also be able to meet and get to know famous people and personalities who’ll be on hand to talk to the public, giving interviews, having a laugh, signing autographs and posing for impromptu photos. As usual, every day will see our partner companies revealing exclusive previews of their very interesting and much-awaited new products and services.
New features and attractions Pinarello, with is futuristic bikes, and Selle Italia, with its innovative system for finding the right saddle, will once again be with us, as will Kask+Koo, presenting their new collection of glasses and helmets. Rigamonti will be preparing some delicious finger food with bresaola for participants, while Enervit will be advising the public about how to use energy products during the race. The Pirelli stand will also be providing our cyclist friends with a tyrecheck service. Mapei has also confirmed that it will be back to liven up the event, as it has done for the last three years, together with Enel and Audi, whose ultra-technological stands will give visitors the chance to discover the fantastic world of electric cars.

For the foodies To call it a refreshment corner would rather be little this delightful area, dedicated to trying the numerous products served by exhibitors. This year, this area will be even bigger, featuring lots of friends including Segafredo, Cantine Maschio, Rigamonti, Rio Mare, Loacker, Foodness, Exquisa and Parmigiano Reggiano.

Two shops in one One of the most important new features this year is the extension to the Maratona Shop, which will double in size and become two stores: the larger shop can be found inside the gym, while the smaller one will be located outside. The bike storage area will therefore also be revamped and extended: as the Shuttle service won’t be possible this year, we advise you to reach the village by bike. A warm-up before the ride is, of course, recommended. Thanks to the partnership with Castelli being confirmed once again this year, producer of the Maratona dles Dolomites–Enel official merchandise, it will also be possible to buy gorgeous leisure sweaters and t-shirts, including original and colourful cycling outfits, with all the relative accessories: gloves, socks, leg sleeves and wristbands, to enjoy bike rides no matter what the occasion. The shop will also be hosting Kask, with its new Maratona-customised Mojito.
Green Corner As confirmation of the Maratona’s awareness of environmental issues, the “Green Corner” will also be present this year: this space will be dedicated to a number of our volunteer friends, who’ll be on hand to help visitors separate their waste. Lastly, we would like to underline the important efforts made by exhibitors to minimise their plastic waste, by using either paper or biodegradable plastic. Now, all that’s left for us to do is to wish you all lots of fun at the Maratona Village, this wonderful meeting place with lots of things to discover and plenty of fun in store for everyone.

Taking part in the Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel is a dream come true for adults and an experience they are unlikely to ever forget. Together with Sportful, we asked ourselves: why wait to be adults to enjoy this dream? So, thirteen years ago, thanks to Maria Canins' intuition, "Maratona For Kids" was created. It is an event which allows many kids, both local and visiting who cheer on their parents during the Maratona for "adults", to experience what it's like to hop on the saddle on a safe route closed to traffic. Partecipare alla Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel è per gli adulti un sogno che si realizza e un’esperienza che difficilmente dimenticheranno per il resto della vita. Insieme a Sportful quindi ci siamo chiesti: ma perché aspettare di essere adulti per vivere questo sogno? Ed è così che tredici anni fa, grazie all’intuizione di Maria Canins è nata Maratona For Kids. Un evento che permette ai tanti bambini, sia locali che ospiti che applaudiranno i propri genitori domenica per la Maratona dei “grandi”, di vivere un’esperienza in sella in piena sicurezza su un percorso chiuso al traffico.
Un evento che è sempre stato gioioso, festoso e in grado di colorare e rendere viva la zona di arrivo nei giorni precedenti la Manifestazione. Purtroppo per ovvie ragioni abbiamo deciso di non disputare l’edizione 2021 della Maratona for Kids. Crediamo sia una scelta di buon senso e comprensibile da tutti. Il nostro impegno però non verrà meno e allo stesso modo non verrà meno l’impegno di Sportful per quanto riguarda il risvolto benefico dell’iniziativa. Nelle precedenti edizioni l’intero ricavato veniva devoluto in beneficenza; quest’anno sarà Sportful a mettere a disposizione lo stesso importo, che verrà devoluto a un progetto curato dall’Associazione Gruppi “Insieme si può...” (www.365giorni.org) in favore dei bambini afghani vittime di guerra e miseria, accolti oggi con amore nell’orfanotrofio di Mehan. Viene donato loro il materiale per un laboratorio di arti visive - colori a tempera, ad olio, pastelli, tele, creta, allestimenti… - e un corso di insegnante d’arte. Per rinascere dall’orrore, liberare i loro sogni, costruire un futuro migliore, un futuro di pace.

It has always been a joyful, festive event which brings life and colour to the area in the days preceding the main event at the foot of the Dolomites. For quite obvious reasons we took the decision to cancel the 2021 edition of the Maratona for Kids. We believe it’s a wise choice that everybody can undestand. Our commitment won’t be canceled nevertheless. The same goes for Sportful’s when it comes to the charity side of the event. The entire proceeds of the previous editions were given to charity projects; for this year Sportful will donate the same amount. The cause chosen for 2021 is a charity project curated by the NGO “Insieme si può…” www.365giorni.org for the benefit of Afghan children, victims of war and misery, who are now lovingly cared for in the Mehan orphanage. The kids will receive materials for a visual arts workshop – tempera and oil paints, pastels, canvases, clay, installations etc. – and an art teacher’s course. To be reborn from horror, to free their dreams, to build a better future, a future of peace.

Associazione Gruppi "Insieme si può" Onlus/ONG Associaton of Groups “Insieme si può" NPA/NGO Sostiene il progetto legato alla produzione di miele nelle comunità del Karamoja in Nord Uganda. Il progetto ha coinvolto 100 contadini molto poveri che sono stati formati in un corso intensivo, cui ha seguito la consegna di alveari e attrezzature specifiche per facilitare e mettere in sicurezza le fasi di produzione del miele. A un anno di distanza i risultati sono molto interessanti e il miele sempre più richiesto. Supports the project related to the honey production in the communities of Karamoja in North Uganda. The project involved 100 very poor farmers who were trained in an intensive course, followed by the delivery of hives and specific equipment to facilitate and secure the honey production stages. A year later, the results are very interesting and honey is increasingly in demand.

In occasione della Giornata Mondiale degli Oceani dell’08 giugno 2019 ha organizzato lo spettacolare recupero delle reti fantasma presenti nel porto di Lipari e lungo le coste delle Isole Eolie. Le acque ospitano alcune tra le specie marine in via d’estinzione d’Europa: delfini, tartarughe, capodogli e cernie sono stati trovati intrappolati nelle reti fantasma disperse nel Mar Tirreno in uno stato di inutile sofferenza o spesso in fin di vita. Il progetto ha previsto, oltre al recupero delle reti da parte di sub volontari, il coinvolgimento dei bambini del posto in un programma scolastico volto a sensibilizzarli sul tema dei rifiuti marini. On World Oceans Day of June 8th 2019 a spectacular ghost net removal was organized at the harbor of Lipari and surrounding reefs in the Aeolian Islands. This sea is home to some of Europe’s endangered marine species. Bottlenose dolphins, loggerhead sea turtles, sperm whales, and dusky groupers, have been found entangled in nets near the Aeolian Islands and in the Tyrrhenian Sea, suffering unnecessarily and in many cases eventually dying. Parallel to the removal activities by volunteer divers a school programme was also organized to educate the local children about marine litter.
Comuni Colle Santa Lucia e Livinallongo Municipalities of Colle Santa Lucia and Livinallongo Il 29 ottobre 2018 sulle Dolomiti il maltempo Vaia ha creato danni ingenti distruggendo milioni di alberi e danneggiando interi paesi. Le zone dell’Agordino e del Fodom sono state colpite con particolare violenza e anche i comuni di Colle Santa Lucia e Livinallongo, che da anni vedono transitare l’immenso gruppo dei ‘maratoneti’, sono rimasti seriamente danneggiati. Per questo ci siamo attivati nella raccolta di fondi da destinare ai due comuni colpiti, da sempre amici della Maratona. On 29th October 2018, extremely bad weather in the Dolomites caused extensive damage, destroying millions of trees and damaging entire villages. The areas of Agordo and Livinallongo were particularly bad hit including the municipalities of Colle Santa Lucia and Livinallongo, who have seen the immense group of ‘marathoners’ pass through for years. That’s why we organised a fundraiser, with all proceeds going to these two municipalities affected, which have long supported the Maratona.

UN’ARTE MOLTO CONCRETA Anche quest’anno, per motivi esclusivamente benefici, proponiamo le iscrizioni a prezzo più elevato, la cui maggiorazione sarà devoluta a quattro associazioni: • Assisport Alto Adige (www.sporthilfe.it) che sostiene veri talenti sportivi, ragazzi che non hanno la possibilità di finanziarsi le competizioni; • Associazione Gruppi "Insieme si può" Onlus/ONG (www.365giorni.org) che sostiene il progetto legato alle attività di crescita/espressione artistica per i bambini orfani di guerra in Afghanistan illustrato su questa pagina; • Associazione Arte Sella (www.artesella.it) che sostiene il progetto legato alla ricostruzione del percorso ArteNatura e del giardino di Villa Strobele illustrato su questa pagina. • Associazione "Alex Zanardi BIMBINGAMBA" (www. bimbingamba.com) che realizza protesi per i bambini che hanno subito amputazioni e che non possono usufruire dell'assistenza sanitaria. • Inoltre daremo un aiuto concreto al Comune di Livinallongo, duramente colpito dal maltempo del 29 ottobre 2018, nella costruzione di un parco giochi dedicato agli alunni della scuola elementare del paese.

CHARITY A TRULY CONCRETE ARTFORM
L’Afghanistan è un Paese in cui le donne, gli uomini e i bambini conoscono da quarant’anni solo la guerra e il fondamentalismo, con il loro carico di orrori e violenze. C’è un disperato bisogno di pace e di ricostruzione, di riaffermazione di valori positivi, di rispetto dei diritti di ciascuno. Scegliamo per questo di sostenere chi nel Paese si impegna ogni giorno con coraggio nel promuovere un presente e un futuro di giustizia e di unione, convinti che una rinascita vera inizi con l’accompagnamento dei bambini nel loro percorso di crescita. La rete di orfanotrofi di Afceco, con cui “Insieme si può…” collabora da molti anni, non offre solo rifugio, cibo e scuola a centinaia di bambine e bambini orfani, ma si impegna a ricostruire i legami di questi piccoli con i contesti di origine e a sviluppare le loro attitudini e i loro sogni di un futuro migliore. Ai bambini e alle bambine degli orfanotrofi dell'AFCECO viene insegnata la tolleranza, il rispetto per la diversità e i diritti degli altri, la sensibilità ambientale. L’arte è uno strumento efficace come nessun altro per appassionare i bambini e farli crescere come promotori di questi valori! Afceco include da sempre come priorità la danza, il canto, la musica, le arti grafiche, che vedono protagonisti proprio i bambini. In una realtà come quella afghana, queste sono esperienze uniche e straordinarie, che contagiano positivamente e illuminano il contesto retrogrado e disperato del Paese, mostrando il lato bello della vita e dell’arricchimento che deriva dall’incontro positivo. Con questo progetto: • sosteniamo un Laboratorio per le arti visive, completo di tutti i materiali e gli strumenti necessari, dove un maestro d’arte tiene dei corsi a misura di bambini. Le opere d’arte più apprezzate vengono messe in vendita per il sostegno di nuove attività. • completiamo un piccolo studio di registrazione musicale dotandolo delle apparecchiature e dei dispositivi essenziali (mixer audio, microfoni, altoparlanti e un laptop heavy-duty): musicisti e cantanti già si esibiscono in piccole tournée. • contribuiamo alla dotazione di costumi da danza tradizionali e al completamento di strutture e attività del Dance for Hope Studio in Afghanistan, poter ammirare delle giovanissime artiste che esprimono sé stesse nella danza con passione e maestria: un miracolo, che tocca il cuore di tutti.

Con questo progetto promuoviamo assieme l’arte che impreziosisce delle piccole vite, l’arte che realizza un futuro di pace.
Afghanistan is a country where, for the past 40 years, men, women and children have only known about war and fundamentalism, with the horror and violence they entail. There is a desperate need for peace and reconstruction, reaffirmation of positive values and respect for everyone’s rights. This is why we’ve chosen to support those in the country who have made a commitment to promote, on a daily basis, a present and a future that include justice and union, convinced that true rebirth starts by accompanying children in their human growth and development. The Afceco network of orphanages, with which “Insieme si può...” has been working in partnership for many years, offers not only refuge, food and schooling to hundreds of orphaned girls and boys, but is also committed to reconstructing the connections of these children with their roots and developing their attitudes and dreams of a better future. The children at the AFCECO orphanages are taught about tolerance, respect for diversity, environmental awareness, respect for the rights of others and strong values of integrity, commitment and care. An effective tool like no other for encouraging these young people and making them grow up as promoters of these values is.. art! Afceco has always prioritised dance, song, music and graphic arts featuring children themselves. In a situation such as that in Afghanistan, these are unique and extraordinary experiences that have a positive influence and light up the retrograde and desperate context of the country, showing the beautiful side of life and the enrichment that comes from positive encounters. Through this project: • We are supporting a workshop for visual arts, complete with all the necessary materials and tools, where an art teacher holds courses especially for children... the most successful works of art are then put up for sale to support new activities! • We are completing a small musical recording studio with the essential equipment and devices (audio mixer, microphones, loudspeakers and a heavy-duty laptop)... the musicians and singers are already performing in a little tour! • We are contributing to providing traditional dance costumes and to completing the facilities and activities of the Dance for Hope Studio in Afghanistan, so that people can admire the young female dancers who express themselves through dance with passion and skill - it’s a miracle that touches the hearts of everyone.
With this project we are promoting art that enhances little lives, art that will create a future of peace.

Da più di trent’anni Arte Sella rappresenta il luogo in cui arte, musica, danza e altre espressioni della creatività umana si fondono dando vita ad un dialogo unico tra l'ingegno dell’uomo e il mondo naturale. Il 29 ottobre 2018 Arte Sella è stata colpita dalla tempesta Vaia: il bosco alle pendici sud del monte Armentera, nel quale si insinuava armoniosamente il percorso ArteNatura, è stato abbattuto in pochi attimi dal vento, così come il giardino di Villa Strobele che, dopo aver ospitato le prime edizioni di Arte Sella, dal 2017 è diventato uno spazio espositivo unico, dedicato al mondo dell’architettura internazionale. Con questo progetto si contribuisce alla ricostruzione del percorso ArteNatura e del giardino di Villa Strobele.
Arte Sella: the contemporary Mountain. For over thirty years, this has represented a place where art, music, dance and other expressions of human creativity come together, creating a unique dialogue between human ingenuity and the natural world. On 29th October 2018, Arte Sella was hit by Storm Vaia: the Art-Nature trail used to harmoniously wind its way around the forest on the southern slopes of Mount Armentera, which was demolished in just a few seconds by the strong winds, as was the garden of Villa Strobele, which had been a unique exhibition space dedicated to international architecture since 2017, after hosting the first editions of Arte Sella. This project contributes to the reconstruction of the Art-Nature trail and the garden of Villa Strobele.

•T HE N E W J E R S EYS • MDD SQUADRA JERSEY ‘21 La maglia dell’ edizione 2021 della Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel guarda al futuro ma senza tralasciare l’importanza dell’ esperienza passata. La spinta incessante di Castelli per l'innovazione porta spesso a progressi rivoluzionari in termini sia di prestazioni che di design ed è grazie a questo approccio che questa maglia è stata rinnovata. La maglia, pur derivando da quella di collezione “Squadra”, ha subito un'evoluzione che la rende speciale. È stato integrato nelle tasche posteriori, un porta numero, con il vantaggio di eliminare l'utilizzo delle spille da balia. La finalità è quella, non solo di preservare l'integrità del tessuto, ma anche di migliorare l'aerodinamicità nella parte bassa della schiena. Castelli ha colto e interpretato il tema "ERT" (L' ARTE) con un originale approccio grafico che si ispira al gesto armonioso e ordinato della pennellata, espressione originale dell'artista che mira al raggiungimento della bellezza. Un tocco di pennello, come un colpo di pedale, che il vigoroso ciclista assesta nel percorrere una strada di montagna, irrefrenabilmente ansioso di valicare il Passo.
MDD SQUADRA JERSEY ’21 The jersey for the 2021 edition of the Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel looks to the future but without neglecting the importance of past experience. Castelli’s relentless drive for innovation often leads to revolutionary advances in both performance and design, and it is via this approach that this jersey has been updated. The jersey is based on one from the Squadra collection but has undergone an evolution that makes it special. A number holder has been integrated into the back pockets, which eliminates the need to use safety pins. The purpose is not only to better preserve the integrity of the fabric but also to improve the aerodynamics over the lower back. Castelli has captured and interpreted the event’s theme, “ERT” (art), with an original design approach inspired by the graceful and disciplined gesture of a brush stroke, the unique expression of an artist aiming to achieve beauty. Una bottiglia in PET lasciata nell’ambiente impiega oltre 700 anni per iniziare a decomporsi. E attualmente, nel mondo, vengono prodotte 20 milioni di tonnellate di bottiglie. Per realizzare il tessuto Carvico con cui sono stati confezionati i gilet è stato utilizzato Repeteable®, un innovativo filato in poliestere ottenuto mediante un processo di riciclo post-consumer delle bottiglie di plastica e prodotto da RadiciGroup, eccellenza italiana del tessile sostenibile: rispetto al poliestere vergine, Repeteable® consente di abbattere le emissioni di CO2 (-45%) e ridurre i consumi di acqua (-90%) ed energia (-60%). A PET bottle which is inappropriately disposed of takes over 700 years to decompose. And, today, all around the world approximately 20 million tons of bottles are produced. Anche bellissimi boschi, che da anni vedono transitare l’immenso gruppo dei ‘maratoneti’ purtroppo sono stati rasi al suolo dal maltempo. È per tale motivo, che con piacere anche la Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel insieme ad Alta Badia ha aderito al progetto WOWnature che mira a realizzare interventi di ripristino ecologico di boschi e foreste danneggiati, tramite pulizia, impianto di nuovi alberi e manutenzione.

Eco-sustainability, environmental protection and the development of sustainable tourism are shared values for the Maratona dles Dolomites – Enel organising committee and for all those who live and work in Alta Badia. On October 29th 2018, extremely bad weather in the Dolomites caused extensive damage, destroying millions of trees, roads, trails and damaging entire villages. Even some of the beautiful woods, who have seen the immense group of ‘marathoners’ pass through for years have been razed to the ground by the storm. Therefore the Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel together with Alta Badia supports a project dedicated to the reforestation. THE PROJECT, CALLED WOWNATURE NEEDS ALL OF US. HELP US BY ADOPTING OR BUYING A TREE.

myMdD 2020 In seguito all’annullamento della Maratona dles Dolomites – Enel 2020 a causa della criticità del periodo, causato dal COVID-19, é nata l’iniziativa myMdD in collaborazione con Alta Badia Brand, valida per tutta l’estate/autunno 2020, che ha permesso di fare la Maratona dles Dolomites-Enel anche quando la Maratona non c’è, e di trascorrere qualche giorno nelle Dolomiti. Partecipare era gratuito e molto semplice. Bastava iscriversi sul sito della Maratona e successivamente ritirare il dorsale numerato in uno degli uffici informazioni dell’Alta Badia. I percorsi erano i tre che ben conosciamo, bastava farne uno e soprattutto dimostrare di averlo fatto scattando le foto con il dorsale nei punti definiti o tramite applicazioni gps. Chi portava a termine l’impresa ha ricevuto il cappellino finisher personalizzato Maratona dles Dolomites-Enel, che solitamente viene conquistato ad ogni edizione. Following the cancellation of the Maratona dles Dolomites - Enel 2020 due to the criticality of the period, caused by COVID-19, the myMdD initiative was born in collaboration with Alta Badia Brand, which allowed to make the Maratona dles Dolomites-Enel throughout the summer and autumn 2020 spending a couple of days in the Dolomites. Participation was free and very simple. First the registration on the Maratona website, then the collection of the bib in one of the Alta Badia tourist offices was requested. By riding one of the three Maratona courses you had to prove that you did it by taking a photo with the bib at given checkpoints or through gps applications. Those who completed one of the courses got a customized Maratona dles Dolomites – Enel finisher cap.

Il 4 luglio, alle prime ore dell’alba, partirà da Canazei anche Michele Grieco, il primo atleta della staffetta “Obiettivo tricolore”. Si tratta della seconda edizione dell’evento promosso da Obiettivo3, il centro d’ascolto e avviamento allo sport paralimpico fondato da Alex Zanardi. Lo scorso anno la staffetta era stata organizzata per lanciare un segnale di ripartenza all’Italia reduce dal primo lockdown. Visto l'entusiasmo respirato in tutto il paese e la potenza del massaggio diffuso, gli organizzatori hanno deciso di replicare la manifestazione per promuovere i valori dello sport paralimpico anche attraverso eventi ad hoc. Tre settimane in giro per l’Italia, con arrivo il 25 luglio a Catania, nel corso delle quali oltre 70 atleti disabili percorreranno la propria tappa in handbike, bicicletta o carrozzina olimpica, passandosi di mano in mano il testimone. At the crack of dawn on 4th July, Michele Grieco will also be setting off from Canazei, as the first athlete in the “Obiettivo tricolore” relay. This is the second edition of the event promoted by Obiettivo3, a support centre helping people to get involved with Paralympic sport, founded by Alex Zanardi. Last year, the relay was organised to send Italy a positive message of recovery just after the first lockdown. Considering the enthusiasm experienced all over the country and the powerful message being shared, the organisers decided to repeat the event, promoting the values of Paralympic sport also through ad hoc events. Three weeks touring Italy, arriving into Catania on 25th July; during the event, over 70 disabled athletes will cover their routes on handbikes, bikes or Paralympic wheelchairs, with the baton being passed from one to the next.

La Maratona in un piatto Essendo l’arte la tematica che contraddistingue questa edizione della Maratona dles Dolomites-Enel, si è voluto omaggiarla con un piatto dedicato ai ciclisti. Questo piatto è nato grazie alla collaborazione tra Elena Casiraghi, specialista in nutrizione e integrazione dello sport e Nicola Laera, chef stellato del ristorante La Stüa de Michil c/o Hotel La Perla. Il piatto realizzato è un “Riso carnaroli mantecato al buon Enrico dei nostri pascoli con ricotta di capra del Maso Ciores, caviale di trota lacustre e chips alla cipolla rossa”. Il riso è un carboidrato privo di glutine, che aiuta il recupero delle energie (glicogeno) dopo lo sforzo. La ricotta di latte di capra, lavorata con sale e pepe è invece fonte di proteine e contribuisce dunque al recupero muscolare. Infine il caviale di trota dona sapidità al piatto, le chips di cipolla rossa e il buon Enrico, lo spinacio di montagna di cui si raccolgono solo le cime, lavorate con il burro freddo, sono alimenti ricchi di polifenoli e nitrati vegetali. Si tratta di un piatto curato in ogni dettaglio e che appaga in maniera leggera e funzionale la fame del ciclista dopo lo sforzo compiuto. Il piatto verrà presentato in occasione della Maratona e potrà essere degustato durante tutta l’estate presso i ristoranti dell’Alta Badia, che aderiscono all’iniziativa.

Carnaroli rice risotto with Good King Henry from our meadows, goat milk ricotta from Maso Ciores farm, lake trout caviar and red onion chips.
As art is the theme of the Maratona dles Dolomites – Enel, we have created a dish that is a true work of art, where local products and nutritional value aimed at the cyclist are blended to perfection. Beginning with the rice: a gluten-free carbohydrate which helps to recover energy (glycogen) after exercise. Next is the ricotta, made with goat’s milk from the Lüch Ciores farm (La Val) and seasoned with salt and pepper; a source of protein to help muscle recovery. Lastly, the trout caviar which brings savoury flavour to the dish, the red onion chips, and the Good King Henry - a leafy vegetable from the mountains whose tops are gathered and mixed with cold butter - are all foods rich in polyphenols and vegetable nitrates. This dish is the result of a collaboration between Elena Casiraghi, nutrition and sport integration specialist, and Nicola Laera, Michelin-starred chef at La Stüa de Michil, Hotel La Perla, Corvara. A carefully thought-out dish which will lightly but effectively satisfy any cyclist’s hunger after a hard day’s riding. The dish will be presented for the occasion of the Maratona and will be available in the restaurants of Alta Badia throughout the summer.

In the fourth generation of chefs and hoteliers, and trained through various experiences in France and Italy, Andrea Irsara is now at the helm of the Restaurant la Stüa dla Lâ Gourmet Hotel Gran Ander, in the heart of Alta Badia. Here Andrea offers a cuisine that reflects his strong link with the territory and his love for the Ladin culinary tradition, transmitted to him first and foremost by his grandmother, to whom he dedicates the name of his restaurant. The secret for the inspiration of his creations? Perhaps the long walks in the quiet of the forests of Alta Badia, so silent and magical, and the teachings of his father first and then of his great friend Karl Baumgartner.

ARABBA Arte Arabba, in lingua ladina “Reba”, si trova nel cuore delle Dolomiti a 1600 metri di altezza, circondata dall’imponente Gruppo del Sella, incastonata tra il Passo Pordoi e il Passo Campolongo e verso sud dall’imponente Marmolada. Difficile non essere colpiti da paesaggi di questa energia, e chi ci cresce con un’anima sensibile e artistica, può trovare in questi luoghi molteplici fonti di ispirazione. È il caso di Gabriele Grones. Classe 1983, Gabriele è nato e cresciuto ad Arabba, nella Valle di Fodom, e dopo aver frequentato il liceo artistico di Belluno conclude gli studi a Venezia iscrivendosi all’Accademia delle Belle Arti. Decide, dopo la laurea specialistica in pittura, di trascorrere alcuni periodi all’estero per crescere e trovare ispirazioni nuove, in America e Danimarca, e ancora oggi per determinati periodi “evade” in cerca di illuminazione o per seguire le sue mostre. Il suo talento lo porta a collaborare con numerose gallerie d’arte in tutto il mondo, soprattutto in Italia, Germania e Stati Uniti. In termini di tematiche, Gabriele lavora per cicli pittorici che variano in base ai suoi interessi: il tema dell’identità lo ha spinto per diversi anni a concentrarsi sui ritratti, tanto dettagliati da essere per lui il mezzo attraverso cui analizzare e indagare l’individuo. Più di recente invece si è dedicato a opere nuove, “figure naturali particolari, capaci nella loro iconicità di evocare l’esperienza umana”. Questo nuovo percorso pittorico nasce da una passione dell’infanzia; da bambino infatti era affascinato dalla varietà e dalla specificità degli elementi naturali, riconoscendo poi nelle loro forme e colori soggetti sostanziali e comunicativi. Il suo paese natale è spesso presente nei suoi lavori, con diverse sfaccettature, perché le radici di un artista tendono a riemergere come un luogo segreto nel quale è sempre piacevole rifugiarsi. Non è strano infatti, girando per Arabba, imbattersi in volti che sono stati rappresentati da Gabriele nei suoi quadri, e che raffigurano albergatori o altri personaggi chiave della comunità ladina. Allo stesso tempo, vista la sua recente inclinazione, si potranno ritrovare nelle sue opere dei frammenti della Valle di Fodom. Sarà interessante scoprire se le sue origini gli saranno d’ispirazione anche nella sua prossima ricerca artistica…
Art Arabba, in Ladin language "Reba", is located in the heart of the Dolomites at an altitude of 1600 meters. Arabba is nestled between the Pordoi and the Campolongo Passes, surrounded in the North by the magnificent Sella Group and the glorious Marmolada glacier in the South. It is hard not to be fascinated by such breathtaking landscapes, and those who grow up in this area with sensitive and artistic soul can find many sources of inspiration. This is the case of Gabriele Grones. Born in 1983, Gabriele was born and raised in Arabba in the Fodom Valley. After attending the art school in Belluno he completed his studies in Venice at the Academy of Fine Arts. After graduating in painting, he decided to spend some periods abroad to grow and find new inspirations in America and Denmark. Even today for certain periods he travels in search of new ideas or to attend his exhibitions. His talent led him to collaborate with numerous art galleries around the world, especially in Italy, Germany, and United States. Gabriele works creating series of paintings connected with a specific theme, according to the interests of his artistic research. The theme of identity has been a key subject over the years: through very detailed painted portraits the artist analyzes and investigates the faces of men and women that become images enriched by symbolic meanings. Recently, however, his research also focused on new themes, "iconic natural details, able to evoke the human experience". This new path started from a childhood passion. In fact, as a child he was fascinated by the variety and specificity of natural elements, recognizing in their shapes and colors substantial and crucial subjects. His hometown is often present in his works in different aspects. The roots of an artist tend to re-emerge as a secret place where it is always nice to go back. It is not unusual in fact, while walking around Arabba, coming across faces that have been painted by Gabriele in his portraits, representing people from the Ladin community. Furthermore, according to his recent series of works, it is possible to find in his paintings fragments of nature from the Fodom Valley. It will be interesting to find out if his origins will inspire him also in his next artistic explorations...

VAL DI FASSA Uno sguardo non convenzionale sull’attualità Nelle sue opere, che spesso strappano un sorriso, c’è l’interpretazione degli aspetti più interessanti dell’attualità, delle varie forme del turismo del nostro tempo e dell’ambiente dolomitico dove vive. Manuel Riz, 44 anni di Canazei, è un artista, nonché insegnante di “arte e immagine” in Val di Fassa, capace di restituire la contemporaneità con uno sguardo non convenzionale. Se scultura e fumetto sono forme espressive - condite di ironia e satira - che ricorrono spesso nelle opere di Riz, negli ultimi anni sono state integrate da altri linguaggi. Ciò emerge chiaramente in “Unterl@ ndia” sua ultima importante esposizione di fine 2019 a Egna (BZ). Divisa in tre sezioni (Weinstrasse, Gasthof, Familie Pixel), la mostra, convertendo anche una parte degli spazi in un’osteria, ha fatto riflettere i visitatori su come turismo, immigrazione e globalizzazione abbiano risvolti nelle popolazioni periferiche, tanto da cambiare equilibri immutati per secoli. Un’analisi proposta, in parte, anche nella personale precedente “Dolomites Shop”, dove Riz aveva trasformato la galleria di Ortisei in un negozio zeppo di brand famosi (reinterpretati), ormai parte integrante delle nostre giornate. Manuel Riz, dopo il diploma in scultura all'Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera (Milano), ha ottenuto riconoscimenti alla Biennale Internazionale dell'Umorismo nell'Arte di Tolentino (Mc) ed è stato fra i finalisti del Premio Arte 2013 della Permanente di Milano. Ha partecipato alla Trienala Ladina 2013 (Museum Ladin, San Martin de Tor in Badia), all'esposizione “Der mit dem Bart... L'Andreas Hofer del turismo” (Castel Trauttmansdorff - Touriseum, Merano, 2009) ed è cofondatore della “Frida Street Gallery” di Canazei. Dal 2001 è vignettista del settimanale “La Usc di Ladins”. Negli anni scorsi, Riz è stato in più occasioni ospite della diretta televisiva della “Maratona dles Dolomites”, realizzando “live” vignette sulla manifestazione e sulle curiosità della gara in corso.
An unconventional look on the present In his works, which often raise a smile, there is the interpretation of the current events’ most interesting aspects, of the different forms of nowadays tourism and of the Dolomites, where he lives. Manuel Riz, 44 years old from Canazei, is an artist and a teacher of “Arts and design” in Val di Fassa, and he is capable to communicate the actual events with an unconventional eye. The sculpture and the graphic novel are the expressing means – seasoned with humour and satire – which Riz uses most often, but in the latest years they have been integrated with other languages. This is clear from last exhibition “Unterl@ndia” presented in Egna (BZ) in 2019. The exhibition, divided into three sections (Weinstrasse, Gasthof, Familie Pixel), made the visitors think on which are the effects of tourism, immigration and globalization on mountain people, insomuch that they can change centuries-old balances. Manuel Riz has graduated in sculpture at the Brera Academy in Milan, has obtained acknowledgements at the Biennale Internazionale dell'Umorismo nell'Arte in Tolentino and was even shortlisted for the Premio Arte 2013 award at the Permanente in Milan. He took part in the Trienala Ladina in 2013 in Val Badia, in the exhibition “Der mit dem Bart... “Noi Gardenesi… …siamo gente curiosa: per noi è importante essere costantemente alla ricerca di qualcosa e anche trovarla. Ciò ebbe inizio nel lontano 14° secolo. Gli agricoltori di montagna della Val Gardena disponevano di campi poveri, i masi a valle sorgevano tutti a un’altitudine superiore a 1.200 m e, quindi, avevano bisogno di una fonte di sostentamento supplementare per l’inverno, che trovarono nell’arte di tornire ciotole e intagliare giocattoli nel legno; oggetti facili da vendere, prima come ambulanti e poi in tutto il mondo. Noi gardenesi siamo ladini e, quindi, non abbiamo una letteratura alle spalle, poiché la nostra lingua retoromanza venne tramandata solo oralmente, così, abbiamo scoperto un altro genere creativo: l’artigianato artistico dell’intaglio che presto ci ha aperto le porte del mondo. A partire dal 16° secolo, le famiglie Trebinger e Vinatzer con le loro sculture e gli altari ne hanno fatto un’autentica arte. Oggigiorno, vivono qui numerosi artisti ed artigiani, che trasformano esclusivamente i loro pensieri e punti di vista, riflettendo la Val Gardena verso l’esterno con uno stile particolare che naturalmente ci contraddistingue tutti, poiché fin da bambini ci confrontavamo quotidianamente con il linguaggio figurato della nostra terra natia, con i presepi, gli altari e le sculture sacre e profane nei laboratori e nei negozi d’artigianato artistico. Noi artisti gardenesi, però, viviamo i nostri paesi e la nostra valle in maniera individuale e con prospettive personali. È una fortuna sapere da dove veniamo, poiché senza le nostre storie non potremmo andare avanti. Amore, vita, morte, fede e giustizia: i temi degli artisti sono sempre stati anche gli argomenti dell’umanità e lo sono ancora oggi. Sono solo gli strumenti a cambiare: computer e video s’affiancano a pennelli o scalpelli e ha già avuto inizio anche l’attività creativa con i robot.”
Aron Demetz si definisce “un classico scultore dagli approcci individuali”. Espone in tutto il mondo e vive in Val Gardena, dove lavora con i materiali della sua terra natia, come ad esempio legno e resina. Dipinge, placca in argento oppure oro alcune delle sue sculture come gli antichi maestri, mentre altre le fa caparbiamente passare per un “cammino di fuoco”.
In Val Gardena… curiosity trumps everything else. Our curiosity has led us to finding many noteworthy things. We’ve always been a curious bunch, really. Even back in the 14th century we had a knack for finding stuff. Back then, the field’s yield was pretty low, every farm in the valley was located well above 1,200 m. In that dire situation, farmers had to look for another source of income during winter… and lo and behold, they found one: they made keys and carved wooden toys. They were easy enough to sell, to travelling traders at first, and then to the rest of the world. In Val Gardena we are Ladin: literature was a foreign concept to us, and so our Rhaeto-Romance language was only transmitted orally. We may have lacked books, but we did find our very own creative genre: wood carving. We travelled far and wide and the trade slowly blossomed into other forms of art. Sculpting is one prime example, perfected in the 16th century by the Trebinger and Vinatzer families and their beautiful sculptures and altars. Nowadays, many artists and craftsmen live here, who exclusively transform their thoughts and points of view, reflecting their thoughts and perceptions around Val Gardena. While this may be our own point of view, it goes without saying that we were, of course, influenced by the daily art in our life as we grew up: cribs, altars, holy and secular sculptures all featured in local workshops and ateliers. However, it’s also true that we Val Gardena artists experience our village and valley from our own perspective. It’s good that we know where we come from. We can’t live without our history. Love, life, death, faith, justice – the themes of our paintings are the themes of humanity and will always be so. Only our tools change: we have brushes and easels as well as computers and videos. Even the creative work with robots has already begun.’
Aron Demetz is ‘a self-proclaimed classical sculptor with his own ideas.’ He’s been featured internationally, lives in Val Gardena. Here he works with the material of his home, wood and tree resin. He paints, or applies a silver or golden lacquer to some of his sculptures, while others are stubbornly subjected to a rite of fire.

COLLE SANTA LUCIA Tra natura e astratto: un’arte in movimento L’arte del collese Antonio Agostini è primariamente una forma di recupero e di rispetto per il passato: i materiali utilizzati infatti, sia legno che plastica, sono tutti materiali di riciclo e, come lui dice,: “Usati per ricordare le attività degli uomini che hanno utilizzato quegli oggetti, per onorare il loro lavoro e per onorare il ricordo anche degli oggetti in sé, per l’importante funzione che hanno avuto e perché un po’ di loro, seppur sotto altra forma, continui a vivere. Ogni pezzettino di legno ha per me un particolare significato perché è legato ad un ricordo”. Si passa dalle opere astratte dove il gioco di sfumature e spessori crea sensazioni a quelle figurative, dove i soggetti a lui cari sono alberi, fiori, vasi, bottiglie che lui realizza semplicemente avvalendosi di diverse essenze. Troviamo quindi nature morte, scorci paesaggistici, riproduzioni della sua amata Colle e creazioni di villaggi e luoghi fantastici. Molte opere sono visibili nella sua casa di Via Villagrande, mentre nella buona stagione per chi passeggia nel centro storico di Colle non è difficile trovarlo fuori dall’abitazione mentre è intento a realizzare qualche quadro o qualche bassorilievo.
Nature and abstraction: art in evolution Antonio’s art is basically a form of reuse and respect for the past: the employed materials, both wood and plastic, are recycled and, as he says, they are “used to remember activities of people who employed the objects, to honour their work and the memory of the objects themselves: a little part of them, in a different form, could so keep on living. Each wood piece means something particular to me because it is tied to a memory”. Antonio gives new life to the materials in different types of works: from abstract creations characterised by an evocative combination of shades and reliefs, to figurative creations typified by trees, flowers, vases and bottles, which the artist realises simply using different kinds of wood. Among his works of art you can find still-life compositions, landscapes, reproductions of his beloved Colle S. Lucia and creations of villages and fantastic places. You can admire many Antonio’s works in his house, but if you walk through the old town during the warmer months, it could happen to you to find him outside his house while creating one of his works of art.

Selva di Cadore vuole rendere un omaggio ad Antonio Lorenzini, per i paesani “Tonin de la Poňa”. Uomo semplice, saggio e determinato, con un grande amore per il suo paese, Selva di Cadore, soggetto principale dei suoi dipinti, tanto da impegnarsi anche pubblicamente per il suo paese come Sindaco negli anni cinquanta. Pittore autodidatta di grande talento, ha prodotto numerose opere pittoriche che emanano poesia, freschezza e una nitida bellezza. La tecnica prediletta è quella dell’olio su tela o su tavola. Antonio Lorenzini nasce il 04 settembre del 1912 a Selva di Cadore. A 12 anni viene mandato a Venezia a fare il garzone. Sono tre anni di ricordi nitidissimi, abbastanza piacevoli, anche se la nostalgia di casa si faceva sentire. Tre anni dopo rientra a Selva di Cadore. Di professione è stato “scarper” (calzolaio) e contadino. Ha rivestito per due volte l’incarico di Sindaco del suo paese. La pittura entra per caso nella sua vita nel 1960, a 48 anni, quando la figlia Marisa porta a casa da scuola delle tempere e da qui in poi la pittura ha costituito il “leit motiv” di tutta la sua lunghissima vita.
The village of Selva di Cadore meant to pay tribute to Antonio Lorenzini, “Tonin de la Poňa” for the locals. He was a determined wise simple man, with a great love for his village, Selva di Cadore, which was the main subject of his paintings. His love for Selva di Cadore was so high that he engaged as Mayor during the 1950s. Asa very talented self-taught painter, he produced several pictorial works that emanate poetry, freshness and a clear beauty. His preferred painting technique was that of oil on canvas or panel. Antonio Lorenzini was born in Selva di Cadore on 4 September 1912. When he was 12, he was sent to Venice to serve as an apprentice. These were three years of clear and pleasant memories, although homesickness was strongly felt. Three years later he returned to Selva di Cadore. By profession, he was a farmer and a shoemaker (“scarper” according to the local dialect) and held the position of mayor of his village twice.
La sua pittura nasce dall’amore per i suoi luoghi: il Monte Pelmo (che vedeva davanti ai suoi occhi tutti i giorni), i gigli rossi, le stagioni che passano, la neve che cade ed i fiori che tornano.
In 1960, when he was 48, painting came into his life by chance, as his daughter Marisa took home some tempera colours from school. Henceforth, painting constituted the leitmotiv of his whole long life.
Nella sua vita ha partecipato all’edizione del Pelmo d’oro di San Vito di Cadore.
Antonio Lorenzini’s painting came from his love for his places: red lilies, the passing of the seasons, the snow falling and the stunning Mount Pelmo that he saw every morning as he woke up.
Dopo una lunga vita durante la quale produce più di 1000 tele, molte delle quali regalate dal pittore ed esposte presso alcune attività di Selva di Cadore, si spegne il 10 dicembre 2008 all’età di 96 anni.
Throughout his long life, Antonio Lorenzini participated in the edition of Pelmo d’Oro in San Vito di Cadore and produced more than one thousand canvas, many of which were relegated end exhibited in galleries organized by the Municipality of Selva di Cadore. He ultimately passed away on 10 December 2008 at the age of 96.

CORTINA D’AMPEZZO Regina delle Dolomiti Natura a Cortina, un’opera d’arte. Ha festeggiato lo scorso anno 30 anni il Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti d’Ampezzo, una delle principali ricchezze di Cortina, area protetta istituita ufficialmente il 22 marzo 1990 con una legge regionale e affidata in gestione dalla Regione Veneto alla Comunanza delle Regole d’Ampezzo. Si stende su un’area di 11.200 ettari a nord del centro abitato di Cortina, nel cuore delle Dolomiti orientali. Nell'area protetta, meravigliosa per la varietà di flora e fauna, vivono stambecchi, cervi, caprioli, camosci, aquile, civette, marmotte e volpi, protagonisti di molteplici scatti fotografici citati anche da National Geographic, come quelli realizzati da Gianluca Lorenzi, fotografo naturalista cresciuto tra le vette di Cortina. Un luogo incantato, da cui spiccano le Dolomiti Patrimonio UNESCO, un paradiso naturale soggetto di notevoli opere d’arte, dipinte da artisti nazionali e internazionali, di cui si conserva un folto gruppo di opere presso il Museo delle Regole d’Ampezzo Mario Rimoldi.
The queen of the Dolomites Cortina, a natural masterpiece. The Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites celebrates its 30th anniversary last year. The Park is one of Cortina's treasures, a protected area officially set up on 22nd March 1990 by a regional law and entrusted by the Veneto Region to the Regole d'Ampezzo. It covers an area of 11,200 hectares north of the town, in the heart of the Eastern Dolomites. This protected area is home to a variety of plants and animals, including ibex, deers, roedeers, chamois, eagles, owls, marmots and foxes. This wildlife is often times featured in photos published even by National Geographic, like those taken by Gianluca Lorenzi, a nature photographer born and raised among Cortina's peaks. The Natural Park is an enchanted place surrounded by the peaks of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites, a natural paradise depicted in significant works of art by Italian and international painters, many of which are part of the collection of the Modern Art Museum Mario Rimoldi.
