SPORTS DIRECTOR'S REPORT What a year it has been! Where do I start? 2020 started off fantastically for all Sub-Clubs with a great season of summer sports finishing up. Just as our winter sports were about to commence, the world stopped us very sharply in our tracks. We were hit with the news of COVID-19. At this stage, many of us were unaware of the effect it would have on us as individuals, the Club, and our sporting clubs. On Tuesday 24 March 2020, all Mounties Group venues and clubs had to close at the direction of the government at NSW Health. We managed to complete our summer sports season, but sadly our Sub-Clubs were unable to have their annual presentations. To ensure the safety of everyone, all Sub-Clubs agreed there would be no major presentation in October and instead we would wait until 2021 to make it bigger and better, Our Clubs reopened on 1 June 2020 and had to adhere to both the government and NSW Health guidelines. As the health and wellbeing of all members continued to be at the forefront of all decisions, it was decided that some of our internal Sub-Clubs could not recommence until a later date. It was with a heavy heart that we made the decision to delay the winter sports programs. However, we know that sport and community play a very important role in peoples mental health and so with the support of our staff and members, we strived to work out ways to live and play in the conditions we found ourselves in. Our hockey and junior soccer teams played a slightly shorter season than usual. Our netball team made the difficult decision to cancel their season, and instead they successfully organised a short twilight competition which was enjoyed by all. Our Rugby League Administrator, Chris Hutchinson made the difficult decision to withdraw for the season and instead look forward to achieving great things in 2021. By the end of 2020, using hand sanitiser, signing in and social distancing became the new normal and we all learned to adapt to our surroundings. At the start of 2021, things certainly felt like they were getting back to normal. We were busy organising our competitions, presentations and the AGMs. We had also started renovations on our internal sports area, known as

the Champions Area giving us a new space for snooker, indoor bowls, darts, table tennis and physical culture, and our top lounge. Whilst we have had to delay the launch of this incredible new space, we are excited to reopen hopefully in the coming months and we cannot wait to welcome you to the aptly named, Murphy’s. The name derives from one of our Directors, Tom Murphy. The Murphy’s family is a very important part of our Clubs history having been heavily involved with the Club for the last 50years. I would like to thank quite a few people for making my life as Sports Director an absolute pleasure. Firstly, I would like to thank each, and every one of our SubClubs members. We are all one big family that look out for one another, support each other in our times of need and we are all passionately dedicated to enjoying and playing the sports that we love. A huge thank you to our President, Kevin Ingram and my colleagues on the Board for your advice, guidance, support, and friendship that you have given me. I would not be the Sports Director I am today without you all. To our Sports Committee; Lorraine Dean, Tom Murphy, Leon Hansen, Omega Octavia. Dawn Kelly and Lyn King, I want to express my gratitude for all your, support, contribution, and friendship and for your unwavering dedication and hard work you have put into our Sub-Clubs during 20-21. To our CEO Mr Dale Hunt, his management team, and the staff, I thank you all for your support and friendship, it certainly makes my job a pleasure in these very trying times. Finally, to my two ladies, Dawn and Lyn that I work so closely with every day of the week. Without the love and support of these ladies, I wouldn’t be where I am today, as they make my Sports Director portfolio a pleasure. Nothing is too much trouble, and they have my back at all times, I cannot thank them enough. Remember, as I always, we are a community and so much more than a Club, we are family. From my heart, to yours, thank you

JENNY MCNEVIN Sports Director

CLUB CAPTAIN'S REPORT What eighteen months it has been with all the uncertainties of Covid 19. Some of the Clubs were able to complete their seasons, congratulations to all winners unfortunately, there were no presentations. The virus has certainly been a disturbance with no Terry Jackson again this year, hopefully next year it will be held bigger and better than ever. Some of our Sub Clubs have lost members this year condolences to all the families and friends.

King and our Sub Club Accountant Omega for all your hard work throughout the year. Last but not least to all our Sub Club members many thanks for your support and friendships throughout the year it is much appreciated. Wishing every sub club all the best for the up-and-coming year. Merry Christmas and New Year to all

I would like to congratulate all our life members from the different Sub Clubs as this is a wonderful honour. Many thanks to Board of Directors, Sports Director Jenny McNiven and Sport Committee Assistant Club Captain Lyn

A WORD FROM OUR CEO What a year it’s been for our Club, members and community. The fact that we have so many members representing Mounties in their various sporting pursuits is a ringing endorsement to the fact that the club is actively involved in connecting people with the community and rings true that we are more than a Club, we are a community.

Since our beginning as a small sports hut, Mounties has brought together talented and committed sports players over the decades, growing our participation and number of sub-clubs which include several elite sporting teams. We are proud to offer legitimate pathway programs as a result from junior development through to elite and professional sport. This year even in difficult times we produced strong positive financial outcome due to the support of our members and you attending our venues. We provided the largest indoor Sub club area of any club, aptly named Murphy’s and we subsidised thousands of local children to play sport From humble beginnings, the Murphy family have been intertwined in some major moments of Mounties History. With a rich story starting with Arthur ‘Spud” Murphy being at the initial round table discussions at an old Cabramatta pub conceptualising a new club at Mount Pritchard and putting up his own land as security for the Club to be built; to Spud’s wife Ethel who become one of the first female club members in Australia when Mounties first opened. Their son Tom who joins Ethel as two of only 20 members to be both founding and life members, setup the first sub clubs, was an Australian Bowling representative and still serves as a current board member. And Tom’s wife, Chris Murphy who was the first female Sub-Club Captain and has also served as a Board Director. So, it is fitting that the latest capital improvement at Mounties, one based on enhancing sub club provision, facilities and social engagement spaces, takes on the

Murphy’s name. The new multi-facetted Sub Club hub was completed in June 2021 and offers a fresh look and vision for our indoor bowls, snooker, darts, table tennis and physical culture and dance, whilst at the same time, paying tribute to our amazing sporting history and achievements. It’s wonderful to see that the original idea of developing a hub for the entire community to enjoy, and which has been a driving force for Tom’s dedication to the Group for more than 50 years is going from strength to strength at Mounties. I should also acknowledge the commitment of the many mums and dads, coaches, and players who help continue the sporting spirit throughout these hardships. It’s that commitment which underpins the great success that Mounties enjoys in its local communities. We’re here to give the best opportunity to play sport at the highest level, despite the pandemic. Congratulations and thanks to all who have been a part of the journey over the past year. Particularly, Club Captain Dawn Kelly and Assistant Club Captain Lyn King, who have provided great support to Spots Director Jenny McNevin and her fellow members of the Sports Committee. These people have unselfishly given their time to ensure that Mounties remains relevant in sport.

MOUNTIES ATHLETICS CLUB This season was no like no other…... When the pandemic hit the world, like everyone else, we were impacted by restrictions which led us to a late start to the athletics season. One which saw tight regulations at competitions which included our Wednesday night social competition having sign in’s, making sure no one had visited a hot spot, and had no symptoms. Making hand sanitizer a priority to keep everyone “safe”.

MOUNTIES CRICKET CLUB Mounties Junior Cricket had a successful 2020-21 season with all of our 5 junior teams making the semi-finals and 2 teams taking out premierships. Our mini’s program (4-8 year olds) was hosted this season for the first time under the Junior Blasters banner and with 14 participants was a great cricket learning initiative for all involved!

Our Under 11 side finished in second position on the ladder and won their semi-final in dominant fashion. They went on to play in their grand-final against first placed Prestons Gold. Prestons has continued to be the benchmark for this age group and once again an excellent cricket battle ensued. The Mounties team put in a fantastic effort, especially with ball in hand, (5 individual wicket takers!) but Prestons Gold’s ability to take more wickets proved to be the defining difference with Mounties falling short by 17 runs. A great game, and super effort by both teams on the day.

around the 30 mark, putting together an excellent total of 199 in the first innings. We then backed up this team effort with the bat with a wonderful display of bowling and catching on the field (8 catches in total!) dismissing the opposition for 76. An outstanding team effort, well done to all.

SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENTS FOR 2020-21 Our Under 12’s and Under 14’s bboth finished in 3rd position on the ladder. Both of these teams put in a gallant effort in their semi-finals but just fell short of victory. Unfortunately, due to the excessively wet conditions in March, no grand finals were able to be played for the older age groups. Our Under 13 and Under 15 sides sides were

● Shashank Setty – 1000 runs for the Mounties Cricket Club ● Giovanni Araco – 10 years of service ● Krish Shinde – John Araco Medal

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2020-21 ● HALF-CENTURIES • Kaelan Azzopardi (U13), Jack Lehner (U13), Sharath Setty (U13), Samarpal Singh (U13), Aryan Gupta (U14), Rocco Ferraro (U14), Shashank Setty (U14), Gurkeerat S Sidhu (U14), Callum Norris (U14), Saim Raza (U15), Harry Worby (U15) ● HATRICKS –

crowned minor and major premiers, having won their semifinals and being placed first on the ladder in their respective competitions. Our Under 13’s had an excellent season only losing twice in normal competition rounds and won their semi-final via forfeit when the opposition could not fill a team. Our Under 15’s won their semi-final in convincing fashion. They batted first and batted as a team with 4 players scoring

10 | MOUNTIES GROUP

WE THANK YOU.

FIFTIES PLUS MOUNTIES February’21 A visit to Pine Crest Orchard at Bilpin where we able to pick our own apples and pears, which they had many varieties. Lunch was at Wallerawang Community and Sports Club. Great day to be out and about.

March’21 We enjoyed a Nova 2.5 hour Newcastle Harbour Luncheon Cruise. Even though the weather was challenging we had never seen so many waterfalls along the M1. While cruising we saw tug boats, cargo ships and coal loading facilities. While enjoying our lunch the captain gave a running commentary about the harbor and its history. The weather was terrible but the day was great.

April’21 Wirrimbirra Sanctuary – Bargo, is a heritage listed fauna sanctuary native plant nursery. Wirrimbirra means “to keep, to preserve”. Due to the bush fires Wirrmbirra was badly affected, but are slowly returning to their better days. Next stop NSW Railway Museum at Thirimere , where every object on display has its own story to tell about social, economic and technological significance. Lunch at Bago Sports Club

May’21 Eight day trip to Mildura and Broken Hill. We stayed overnight at Griffith on first day. Day two we travelled to Wentworth where we had a brief tour of this historic town.

Our trip left from the Mounties club 'Twas early Monday morn An outback tour organised By fearless leader Dawn Now Robbie was our Coachman He did a Sterling job Of taking us from place to place The over 50s mob He drove us o'er 2,000 miles To places near and far He took us on some old dirt roads But mostly on the tar Each day we broke our journey with a luncheon at the pub While other times we made a stop at the local sandwich club

There is a bronze statue of Possum, who when disgruntled by life during the Great Depression took to living off the land in and around Wentworth. Mildura is our next stop for a relaxing cruise on the paddle steamer Melbourne. Day four Mungo National Park, until 15,000 years ago was a vast lake and one of the earth’s longest continuous human habitants. The Great Wall of China was created due to the wind storms and the lake is no longer. Broken Hill next day where we were given a guided tour of the ghost town of Silverton, known as the Hollywood of the outback. Movies have been produce here such as Mad Max 2, Pricilla Queen of the Desert and many more. We were given a special tour of the White Mineral Arts and Mining Museum. The Living Desert Reserve with its 12 sandstone sculptures and at sunset gave a stunning display of changing of colour. At the start of our holiday, Peter Mannering started writing a poem, nobody knew until the last day when it was read to the group, he called it Broken Hill. Please take time to read it. Once again great holiday Our club tries to make everyone feel welcome. Holidays can be paid off in installments, making it easier for many people to come along. Anyone wanting to join can ring Dawn Kelly on 0413 041 254. Our meetings are held on the first Sunday of each month, except September due to Father’s day, starting at 11.30am We’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We travelled 'cross the Hay Plains sparse The country did seem empty The trees were few Grass hardly grew The red dust was aplenty

The mill the tailings and the slimes The concentrates and stage The mullock gangway and the skip The plumbob bogger and cage But now we're heading home again A week without a care A holiday with memories We can forever share

On and on we drove each day Cross the endless plains until A jagged line across the sky We'd arrived at Broken Hill We gazed upon the Line of Load We saw the Pinnacles The little town of Silverton Rock carvings on the hills We learnt about the stope and chute The pass the shaft and kibble The rise the winze the baulk and cut 'Twas enough to make one dribble

The Mounties over 50s And some other extra friends Hope we see you soon again As soon as Covid ends So Robbie here's a little thought A special thanks from us For taking real good care of us On your Coach that's not a bus 'Broken Hill' Written By: P.J. MOUNTIES FISHING CLUB With the 2021-2022 season only just beginning we are in lockdown waiting for the restrictions to be lifted so that we can fish again. We look back on the fun times we had in the past year.

Our Inter-club competition with Bankstown Fishing Club was cancelled with the COVID-19 restrictions coming in to play.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS – 2020-21 SEASON

Our trips out have seen mixed species of fish being caught, perfect weather conditions with the odd unsettled ones and the occasional visit from dolphins and seals.

Over the year of the fishing season, fish caught are then weighed and respective points are allocated depending on the species. All weigh-ins are done back at shore by the trip captains. The trip captains are volunteers making sure all club trips run smoothly and all points recorded. The members of the Mounties Fishing Club would like to thank all trip captains for their contributions over the year. Congratulations to the following champions showing that their fishing skills excel in getting such a high achievement. ● Club Champion – Rifet Hadzic ● Runner Up – Nino Cucchiaro ● U55’s Champion – Nino Cucchiaro ● U55’s Runner Up – Luke Brown ● Senior Champion – Rifet Hadzic ● Senior Runner-up – Vince Cantarella ● Rusty Hook Award – Vi Lam ● Biggest fish of the year – Snapper 3.07kg caught by Peter Keough

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE 2021 SEASON: ● Inter-Club Competition Mounties Fishing Club has a standing competition between Bankstown Fishing Club. Fingers crossed for next year where we can can come back stronger and ready for the fight to retain the Inter-club Title. A big thank you to the Bankstown Fishing Club for the continuing support of the friendly rivelry of the Inter Club Competition.

In addition, two players were selected for the u/21 national championships which were unfortunately postponed until 2022. Two rising stars were also selected into the 2021/2022 state squads. MOUNTIES JOGGERS The Mounties Joggers have had a successful year, even though the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to affect the way we interact each week.

Our joggers and walkers trekked to the coast on two occasions to view the beautiful beaches and breathe the salt air. We ventured east to run/walk the Coastal Walk from Coogee to Bondi and to Cronulla to follow The Esplanade and track around to Gunnamatta Bay, and returning to Wanda. In March, Dave, Claire, Mark, Grahame, and Chi participated in the 12km NAB RunWest Fun Run from the Sydney Motor Sport Park, travelling through Sydney Zoo, Western Sydney Parkland and finishing at West HQ, Rooty Hill. We have been fortunate to conduct our monthly and quarterly races and relays throughout the year, with the exception of the July and August handicaps due to the Greater Western Sydney lockdown. MOUNTIES MEN'S LAWN BOWLS As if 2020 was a bad enough year for Lawn Bowls, 2021 is proving to be disastrous as far as being able to play our championships and tournaments.

So far we have been able to complete our Fours, Triples and Pairs Championships, our singles are yet to be completed with many tournaments now in doubt.

The Minor Pairs Championship was won by Warren Pitman and James Craig with runner-up Ivana Krope and Craig Sutton.

Highlight of the past 12 months would have been the Sub-Club Life Membership presented to our current President – Warren Hopley. A well-deserved award for his overall support of our club in all aspects of lawn bowls and guidance in running our club.

The Senior Pairs Championship was won by Fernando Diaz and Bob Reid with runners-up Denis Cooper and Peter Deans.

2021 has also seen the merge of NSW Men’s and Women’s Bowls Association finally completed and now all of our Championships and Tournaments are now mixed. The Fours Championship was won by Nick Bihancov, Steve Smith, Terry Bleakley and Shane Farrell, with runners-up Wayne Dearing, John Kulczycki, Peter Beech and Warren Hopley. The Triples Championship was won by Peter White, John Kulczycki and Ken Tracey with Runners-up Steve Lennon, Greg Ryan and Matthew Crossland.

SINGLES: The Senior Singles Championship was won by Peter Beech with runner-up John Kulczycki. At the time this report was compiled, The Major Singles were yet to completed, the Minor Singles still to be run. With the Covid-19 lockdown in place till at least the end of September, many of our annual tournaments are in doubt due to lack of time to complete by December. Let us hope 2022 will be a better year for all. To the members of all Mounties Sub-clubs – keep safe, keep well !

PAIRS: The Major Pairs Championship was won by Peter Beech and Warren Hopley with runner-up Steve Smith and Shane Farrell.

JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE Season 2021 started with such hope after a COVID-19 effected 2020 season. Unfortunately, we fell victim yet again to COVID-19 and in June the season would come to an abrupt stop.

With 21 teams representing Mounties in 2021 we kicked off with optimism that we would gain back a little of the momentum we had lost with the 2020 postponement. It was a great result to have so many of the kids came back and play footy for Mounties to show the strong community spirit within the region. Seven of our teams played in the under 6s, 7s and 8s where no competition points are recorded. These teams were the highlight each Saturday morning down at the Complex. Running around living out their dreams with parents cheering on, there was no better sight. Five teams from 9s through to 12s were all very competitive with our 9s running 2nd, 10s running 2nd, 11-1s running 5th, 11-2s undefeated in 1st and 12s running 7th at the stoppage of the competition. Our international teams were also looking strong with our 13s in 5th position, 14s in 1st, 15s in 9th, 18s in 2nd and our 23s in 3rd. Our Girls pathway continues to thrive with our 16s Girls in 6th and our 18s in 3rd position in very strong NSW Conference Competitions. Our Try Time program for people with special needs proved a success again with a junior and senior team representing Mounties. Unfortunately they were only to be given two

games for the season with a Home Gala day set aside for August not going ahead. The club has a good connection with our annual Junior Academy Night in May a resounding success followed by the High-Performance Academy 6-week program held in May and June providing coaching assistance to our next generation leading players and coaches.

It was not how we would have liked to finish but would like to say a huge thankyou to all the Coaches, Managers, Trainers, Parents, Families and Friends for their continued support. Without you guys we cannot provide a fun environment for the kids to play at this great club.

I would like to personally thank and acknowledge Terri Speechley for all her continued hard work as Secretary of the Junior Club. She goes above and beyond to ensure that all the kids get to play footy each week. We are very lucky to have you! We look forward to season 2022!

SENIOR RUGBY LEAGUE Yet another disrupted season due to the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic saw us stopped in our tracks in June. Our three Elite teams playing in the NSWRL Major Competitions were NSW Cup, Ron Massey Cup and our Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership team.

NSW CUP At the time of the stoppage our NSW Cup team was sitting on the brink of the top 5 and looking at a strong backend surge towards the finals. A very strong win against the previously undefeated Penrith team was linked with some unexpected losses to lower ranked teams to see an inconsistent start to the year. We were very confident that our remaining games would see us in the mix as we had a good record against the teams that would contest the finals.

RON MASSEY CUP A very strong start to the year saw us sitting in 3rd position when the competition came to a halt. A couple of losses in June was a hit to our confidence but knowing the strength of the squad we know we would have been there or thereabouts going into September.

HARVEY NORMAN WOMEN’S PREMIERSHIP Our women did us all proud with only one regular season loss by two points to Minor Premiers Central Coast to sit second going into the finals at the time the competition stopped. We looked a big shot for the title and very keen to avenge our only loss in the big end of season games. On the back of this we will have 13 women playing in the 2021 NRLW for various teams. We were very fortunate and proud to have numerous representative players and staff in 2021. Congratulations to the following: ● City Men’s – Kane McQuiggin, Jack Miller, Kamren Cryer ● City Women’s – Taina Naividi, Stephanie Ball, Filomina Hanisi, Simaima Taufa, Jocephy Daniels, Darren Borthwick (Coach), Aaron Dsouza (Physio) ● Country Womens – Keeley Davis, Jade Etherden, Matilda Power ● City Girls – Fatefehi Hanisi ● Indigenous All Stars Women’s – Taliah Fuimaono ● NSW Women’s – Simaima Taufa, Filomina Hanisi, Keeley Davis ● NSW Girls – Fatefehi Hanisi

MOUNTIES JUNIOR SOCCER In 2021 Mounties Junior Soccer Club had over 500 players. This consisted of 38 teams; 19 Minis teams and 19 competition teams. There were five girls’ and ladies’ teams.

Highlights for the year include all the first-time players, coaches and managers. A number of our Minis teams had the opportunity to take the field during half-time promotions at Western Sydney Wanderers home games. It was the first time for many of the kids being in front of such a large crowd and for many it was a great highlight of their season. We organised two coach training sessions for the new coaches and there were more planned prior to the season interruption due to the pandemic. At the time, we still had two teams in contention for State Cup honours, reaching the quarter finals. We had 7 coaches attend the Group-C licence coach training and we look forward to reaping the benefit of that in future years. Most of the competition teams were in the top four in their respective comps but it was more pleasing to see the level of commitment and player development that was taking place week in and week out on training nights. In 2021, we started working on synergies between Mounties Junior Soccer and Mounties Wanderers Soccer and it will be interesting to see this develop in coming years.

The playing fields were in a poor state but there seems little we can do to get Council to improve its management practices or give us some greater input. Perhaps with the extended rest the fields will have stronger grass development for next season. For many of the competition teams there is a sense of unfinished business, especially for those teams that were leading their comp at the time of season interruption. We had a good level of volunteerism but will be looking for a few more committed helpers in Season 2022. There was always a good vibe on game day down at the park and generally there is a happy atmosphere during the freezing winter training nights as well. As always, we could not have achieved what we did without the unwavering support of the Mounties Club and Sports Team. We look forward to continuing to serve our community through sport in 2022 and beyond!

MOUNTIES TABLE TENNIS CLUB Members of Mounties Table Tennis Club. Hope you are all well and keeping safe What an eighteen months we all had to endure and are still enduring for an unknown time to come.

Beginning year 2020, all appeared to be well. The 2021 AGM was held, committee elected and new 2020 teams formed and submitted for the Table Tennis Western District Summer Competition. Enter COVID19 beginning of March 2020 and new rules came into force and applied . within all areas of MOUNTIES CLUB facilities for the safety of all visiting members and guests. These rules also applied to Table Tennis Western Sydney resulting the Summer as well as Winter competition to be cancelled. Table Tennis Social continued for the remainder of 2020 under strict hygiene rules with MTTC providing hand sanitation dispensers & wipes for players and equipment. Start of 2021 saw the commencement of a renovation program with the Mounties Club taking in the existing Table Tennis , Darts, section of the bowls area as well as the Sports bar area This work is still in progress at the present time of writing this report. MTTC held their annual AGM in January 2021 with members re election all previous committee members. Following the AGM MTTC members wishing to form

teams for playing in the 2021 TTWS Summer Competition. Submitted team information ( three teams, one A, one A2 & one C grade) to the MTTTC committee, and were duly lodged with TTWS. With MTTC without a home night venue available at Mounties Club, an alternative rental venue was acquired, this being at WTTC Fairfield. MTTC completion members were able to use a selection of tables there for a single night per week for practicing their skills plus having a table per grade available on the home night. All this worked out well achieving good end of season play in June 2021 with just semi & grand finals left to play when the NEW STRAIN of Covid 19 struck making no further play in the foreseeable future possible. Perhaps with some good fortune in the coming weeks leading up to Christmas 2021 we can look forward to a window wide enough to have these matches completed with a most favorable outcome for MTTC team members. Best regards,

H.-DIETER METZNER MTTC Publicity Officer

MOUNTIES TOASTMASTERS The world is watching and enduring a once-in-a-century global pandemic. In spite of this Toastmasters club members remained on a steady course, with learning the refresher course, Pathways. New members started on Pathways whilst our existing members had to transition to Pathways by June 30th of 2020.

We welcome new members Alan McCartin, Sophie Phan and Damien Sisouphane, who courageously delivered their Ice Breaker speech, reaffirming our TM club has a friendly atmosphere where members can comfortably share stories and build their confidence. We acknowledge existing members, Allan Davies, Sylvia Violi and Mere Edwards who presented their Ice Breaker speech via Pathways. Our Annual Change Over Dinner for 2021 has been postponed due to lockdown. We look forward to when we can meet and celebrate in person.

PHYSICAL CULTURE & DANCE In 2020 with some quick thinking and arranging, the Physie Sub club still managed to enjoy most of the year. We conducted lessons via zoom, WhatsApp, messenger, braving the cold at the local netball courts and at Sammy’s house.

We had two teachers pregnant resulting in Elizabeth born to Jess in March and Imogen born to Sammy in November. We were able to still have a rehearsal day, a club competition and our official competitions went ahead, a lot later than usual. Our club competition was held October 24 in the Starz room, and we live streamed the event for members and friends! Our Beryl Block Overall Performer of the day was Charlotte Duong 7-8B! TRIGLAV CYCLING, BOCCE, CHESTNUTS CANBERRA RIDE STORY

wearing their Slovenian Australian Jersey

3 June 21- Report by Martha Magajna

The main event kicked off on Sunday morning, with everyone meeting for breakfast on the Kingston foreshore (near the Canberra Glassworks) for a warmup coffee and breakfast.

The restaurant was open for lunch and dinner at normal times. People came in increasing numbers, but they followed the rules carefully. They measured their temperature, recorded their data, and carefully adhered to the prescribed distance and the prescribed number at the tables in the dining room. Families with children chose a place outside on the terrace where children could play. The bowling committee always makes sure that all bocce alleys are clean and tidy and the premises are disinfected before we start bowling. Winter has begun, but the bocce players are still bravely

resisting the cold. In the past, we went on a bus trip to Goulburn to pick ripe chestnuts, but now we are quite happy if we buy these delicious forest fruits in the supermarket and our friend Jože Pahor bakes them in a homemade oven at the bowling courts. And everybody was happy! Thank You, Jože !

Our walkers and runners had a nice 5-7km walk around the central loop also known as the 'bridge to bridge walk', commencing from Kingston and crossing the Kings Ave bridge to Commonwealth Park to then come back around through the international flags display and the official "Australians of The Year Walk" whilst taking in the Parliamentary Triangle, home to many of the city's national attractions. The cyclists rode along the lake's edge completing all 3 loops and 30km of cycling. Riding through Jerrabomberra Wetlands

Nature Reserve and Duntroon, around to Government House via Commonwealth Park and then back to Kingston with a tyre change pit stop in between. It was great to see so many people out and about across the weekend embracing the first event held in Canberra - ACT. Thank you to everyone who came and participated including Mr Andrej Kralj, from the Slovenian Embassy and John and Christine Falez for leading the ride. The events enjoyed by all are a great way to get out, be active, get healthy, catch up and make new friends. Thank you again and looking forward to the next event.

CANBERRA RIDE STORY 30 May 21: Report by Kristina and Andrew Suber On Sunday, 30th May, the members of the Triglav Mounties Cycling club and the Slovenian Australian Community came together for a great weekend down in the nation's capital Canberra, enjoying a cycle/run/walk around Lake Burley Griffin, lots of food and great company. It was great to see new faces from NSW and ACT, and fantastic to see many people travelling from NSW to attend with many members

HARBORD DIGGERS CRIBBAGE We completed a full 10 weeks of the Autumn Roy Perri competition, which is a great feat these days of uncertainty. We had joint winners, John Fransen and Tony Richards. Lesley Fransen came second (one would question how husband and wife can get into the winner’s circle, he also being president and does the numbers!) and Georgie Poitras came third.

Some members are very competitive and the numbers for the rest of the members were very close.

of this trophy as Pat will be remembered for her dedication to the club.

I have had a good turn out each week, which they all need to be applauded considering the cold and wet rainy nights, all are not getting any younger.!!

A very large P.S.We are all sad because of the virus we have not played are great game cribbage for 2 months. I had notification at the end of last week one of our members passed away, good old Norm, he really enjoyed his evenings when he could play. His love of the game cribbage, and was very knowledgeable in all aspects, he will be sadly missed.

The winter Roy Perri competition started on the 17 June, and I am looking forward to seeing some new members as winners. I purchased a trophy on the 15 June for the double’s competition. Last September at the AGM we all agreed that the name on the trophy would be Pat O’ Sullivan. I am proud

HARBORD DIGGERS WOMEN'S BOWLING Until COVID-19 "struck" we had been playing bowls at Manly Bowling Club (known as "Diggers on the Park") since February 2016 waiting for our new green at Harbord Diggers. We were hoping to be back "home" early 2020 however the reconstruction of the bowling green at Harbord Diggers has not taken place to date.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and difficulties getting to the Manly club, unfortunately our members have not been able to play bowls since March last year. 2021 marks the 40th anniversary of Harbord Diggers Women's Bowling Cub. We had organised to mark this important milestone with a luncheon on Monday 30th August, however this was not possible: we are hoping we can celebrate it prior to the end of the year. Our much-loved Patron, Betty Campbell, a founding member of the Club, continues to be a wonderful support to us all. Last December we enjoyed our Christmas Party and would like to thank Karen and the staff at Harbord Diggers for the delicious Christmas lunch they prepared for us. Our thanks to both Harbord Diggers and Mounties for their

support during what has been an extremely difficult year for everyone. We kept in touch with each other at a coffee morning once a month when restrictions eased, however this has not been possible for several months. Whilst we are not able to see each other at present we keep in touch by phone, email or facetime. We hope it won't be too long before life returns to "relatively" normal and we can once again enjoy the camaraderie we treasure and also the great game of bowls.

HARBORD DIGGERS TOASTMASTERS - DAYTIME Meetings continue on line via zoom. A small base of 7 to 8 members join with most members preferring to wait for return to face to face meetings. None the less, with this small number, there remains lots of enthusiasm and joviality.

Have started theme meetings again, each 1st meeting of the month. August > funny hats. September > Mexican. October > 70s flower power. November > Melbourne Cup. To add interest and education, we have invited several experienced speakers to our meetings. Contests: Speech contests on Club level will be held on the 30th September and Area level is to be held on the ……....... Our club will be hosting the Area contest which we are hoping to have face to face.

TWO OF OUR MEMBERS HAVE RECEIVED ACCOLADES WITHIN TOASTMASTERS INTERNATIONAL:

Our new Vice President Public Relations, Giovanna Simonetti, is in the process of updating all our social media outlets and produced our first newsletter for the year. Toast Masters International has ruled that any photos to be published, need a Photo Release form signed by the members. Hence we were not yet able to include any photos in this report We are surviving on zoom but looking forward to using the club room again. Stay safe.

LINDE OOSTERHOFF Secretary

HARBORD DIGGERS TOASTMASTERS - EVENING In December 1970, a group of enthusiastic northern beaches residents formed a Toastmasters Club at Harbord Diggers. Despite the transition to Zoom based meetings, we continue to be an enthusiastic group with membership numbers growing.

In November 2020 the dopamine was flowing in the first meeting back face-to-face, it was a great buzz to be back face to face - and whilst we are briefly back to zoom meetings – we know we will be back stronger than ever when the doors open again at Harbord Diggers.

We have launched a new educational push, Ross had us on the edge of our seats with “intentional listening”, Laura Fagan taught us all about Body Language and guest speaker Mike Kano Mcillam gave us some Vocal Variety tips.

It’s been a big year for our members: new dogs and babies have enriched families, new members have joined HDTM, former members returned and most importantly we’ve had a lot of fun.

Last but not least, in June it was also time to elect a new exec team, Colm Fagan made way for our new President Anna Leadbetter and we are so excited to have her lead us in 2021/22

“I never expected to have sore cheeks from laughing so much at a Toastmasters meeting!” Anna Farr

We look forward to welcoming you at one of our meetings. Please call Colm Fagan on 0402 556 554 for any queries.

OUR 2021 AWARD WINNERS ARE; ● Brad Nonnenmacher whose normal weapon of choice as an artist is his pen, however has communication and leadership gifts, landing him the “Toastmaster of the year” award. ● Hyunyi Wang has touched many hearts in our club, her persistence led her to win the “Most improved” award this year – the motto “showing up is half the battle” certainly rings true

MANLY BOWLING CLUB MEN'S BOWLING We managed to get our 2021 Graded Fours completed early in the year, one of our great Events as it puts different Grades together in the one game, 8 bowlers on the one rink giving their all.

The 2021 Graded fours were won by the Graham Lewis led side including Barry & Dianna Rothwell with Jill Wedgenaar in a close contest over Tom Wrathall, John Hirst, Jim McDonald & Graham Thomas. 2021 Pennants, Zone 9. MBC managed to field 4 Grade sides again this year, all 48 bowlers playing a 10-week season, home and away games all over the Northers Beaches and North Shore. We managed to get to these numbers through the help of our Lady members, so a big thank you to all the Ladies that help out. Our Grade 6 and 7 teams fought hard all year with mixed results. Grade 7 was filled with mostly new bowlers learning how to play as a team, they did well and will be much better for the experience. Grade 6 started very well, they were competitive against most teams but ran up against a few very powerful sides, especially Harbord who went through

the season undefeated. Our grade 5 and grade 3 sides were very competitive and managed to get to their respective final round games with a chance to progress to the finals. Both missed out by the barest of margins on the day, just losing games by a few points; next year promises well for MBC. We have commenced our Major Singles, but the latest lockdown has ceased all play, hopefully we will be back on the Greens soon. All play has been on our new synthetic, thanks Mounties, which is a testament on how much everyone enjoys the surface.

MANLY WOMEN'S BOWLING 2021 began very positively when we returned to bowls in January after the Christmas Covid lockdown. No-one could have imagined how everything would change so dramatically within 6 months. Our club is so lucky to have such a friendly, supportive membership group that has remained strong and connected through these difficult times.

In February Maria Lind, our 2020 Singles Champion competed in the NSW Champion of Club Champions Singles at Asquith Bowling Club. In March, Annie BowenOld and Sally Hammerton, the winners of our Pairs Championship represented our club at the NSW Champion of Club Champions Pairs at Club Merrylands. We thank the Mounties for their support of our players in these extremely competitive events. At this stage the 2021 events have been postponed to November, but we will have to wait to see if they eventuate. Fortunately, we were able to complete our Major Singles Championships early in 2021 and then our Pairs Championship immediately after Pennants. Since late in June, with the Delta strain in Sydney, we have been in lockdown and disappointedly no bowling for anyone. We are hopeful some of our remaining Club Championship events can be completed this year. After the disappointment of the 2020 season, everyone was excited to begin Pennants. The club entered four teams, one in each grade (one of only 2 clubs in our district to do so), in the Manly-Warringah District Pennant Competition. Thank you to Mounties for opening the club earlier to allow us to play home and away games. Next year we hope for a less disrupted season which will enable us to have our training sessions once again and thus be more competitive. In May our club held a Special General Meeting to vote on the unification of WBNSW and BNSW. The ladies voted unanimously in favour of unification. The overall result announced at the NSW Special General Meeting was also in favour. We look forward to seeing our sport strengthen and grow under the new entity, Bowls New South Wales Limited. Our AGM, due to be held in early August, has been postponed but we are ready to go as soon as restrictions for our club are lifted. A special thank you to Jenny McNevin who has worked tirelessly to help our club with planning and organizing so much this past year. Also, a thank you to Simon and the staff at Manly Bowling Club who have been so helpful and supportive, especially throughout the Pennants season.

CLUB WYONG LAWN BOWLS Well, what can I say about my first year as President. It wasn’t what anyone could envisage.

You are all aware over the past years we have had to be mostly self-sufficient in keeping our club going, this was achieved by hard work, generosity from all our members’. When Covid hit in 2020 we had enough finances in hand to keep us afloat in the hard times. Our Patrons, Thea McFadden & June McBurney gave us a nice Patron’s Day, followed by a lovely lunch prepared by Eleanor Syron and her helpers. Normally our calendar is very full, but we only managed to get a few of these days in. Our Club Championships were played, congratulations to all winners. Got a couple of Nominated Days in. We represented our Club in Pennants not successful, but enjoyed the friendship with the other clubs involved.

A big thank you to my committee and each member for stepping up when needed. Thanks and special mention to Maree Stacey for the great job filling the position of Secretary. Lyn Whiley for keeping our garden looking good and Sandra Howarth looking after our Welfare, well done ladies. As yet we have not had the privilege to know just what is ahead for us with the Mounties, each time a meeting is organised we go back into lock down. Thank you Mounties and fellow bowlers, stay safe but most of all keep good health and look out for each other.

CLUB WYONG TOASTMASTERS Wyong Toastmasters Club was Chartered on the 6th of May 2008. Club Number 1174686. We meet on the 1st, 3rd, 5th Friday of the month, from 10.30am- 12.30pm at Club Wyong.

The core values of Wyong Toastmasters are, Integrity, Respect, Service and Excellence. The Mission Statement of Wyong Toastmasters is, ‘We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which the members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth.’ The last two years has been a big learning curve for the whole of Australia in many ways. We in Toastmasters have had to learn new skills such as holding our meetings online instead of face to face. We are fortunate that we have great leaders in Australia and with the help of Toastmasters International, we survived the first Covid-19 pandemic with some member loss, our speech contests were conducted online. I believe we came out the other side more educated on holding online meetings, but just as we were getting back to our normal face to face meetings the pandemic struck again. We were more prepared for it the second time and reverted easily to online meetings once again. Wyong Toastmasters has held its Executive Committee Elections and the new committee is as listed below: President - Debbie King DTM Immediate Past President - Martin Beggs Vice President of Education (VPE) - Megan Pascoe

Treasurer - Adam Dorrington Secretary - Megan Pascoe Vice President of Membership (VPM) - Margaret Young Vice President of Public Relations (VPPR) - Martin Beggs Sergeant at Arms (SAA) - Joel Gillan We have appointed a Club Coach for the new Toastmaster year in the form of Jan Cummings DTM. Jan is a very experienced Toastmaster, and she will be working with the club to boost our membership. Wyong Toastmasters are looking forward to the future as a sub-club of the Mounties Group as both organizations I believe share the same goals.

BUDGEWOI NETBALL CLUB With a delayed start thanks to Covid, our condensed 2020 season kicked off on the 18th July with tight restrictions.

A few months prior you wouldn’t have thought it was possible but every week our 127 members navigated the fences at Baker Park while our parents and supporters cheered on from a safe distance. As a local community club, netball for us has always been about providing a safe and positive environment for girls and ladies to have fun with friends and enjoy sport but getting a few wins along the way isn’t too bad either. Of our 14 teams (10 of which were competitive) we had 7 teams make the finals series including all four of our senior teams! Special mention to our Cadet 2 team, Kestrels who ended the season undefeated Minor and Major Premiers. Fast forward to 2021 and our current season started with a bang! 2021 marks 60 years of netball for Wyong District Netball Association and we were proud to return for our 48th year. Our club fielded 15 teams this year ranging from

u7s all the way to Division 11. We managed to get in an unobstructed 9 rounds of the season before Covid reared its head and put us on an extended mid-season break. Prior to the break we saw some very impressive results with 8 of our 12 competition teams in potential finals positions. One stand out team so far has been our u10 Orioles who since forming last year, having never played netball before, are continuing their undefeated run from 2020 and looking good to be premiers in their first year of competition! Looking forward to the back half of the season and cannot wait until we can step foot on court again!
