“
I am the son of a math teacher and a pianist, the dichotomy between rationality and creativity continues to inspire me to this day,” says Roberto Paparcone, an architect by training and a ceramist by vocation. Italian born Paparcone, whose personal project is named after his surname, has trained in different disciplines in Naples, Rotterdam, Barcelona and Mallorca, where he currently lives. He creates his exceptional ceramic pieces on the island with a pure Mediterranean soul; however, they travel across Europe to become part of the homes that welcome them. Roberto Paparcone entered the world of ceramics by chance thanks to a friend, and since then he has not stopped experimenting with the wheel to translate his creativity into exceptional objects with essence. His way of doing things, without haste and following the artisan tradition, fits perfectly into the island’s environment, as many creators choose the largest island of the Balearics to give free rein to their imagination. In a commitment to exploring textures and shapes, Paparcone creates capsule collections inspired by practically anything that moves him: landscapes, natural elements, ancient myths and legends, the memories from his childhood and, of course, his favourite Mediterranean corners. If you carefully observe each of his collections, you will think you are reading different chapters of the same story that, in fact, we all share. The story is none other than the journey, the experience and the search for authenticity. Thus, the Ikebana pots play with the beauty of Japanese floral art, the Lollipop vases make us feel the innocence of a children’s party, the landscape of the Aeolian Islands inspire White Vulcano pots, and the Terre Rosse vases pay tribute to Mediterranean land. Despite the variety of sources, the story is homogeneous. The pieces seem to dialogue with each other, always with a consistent common thread: paying homage to craftsmanship and slow design, creating with awareness and meaning, and giving each object its own life. By committing to this honesty, Roberto manages to create much more than a decorative object. As he himself assures, you must not limit yourself to observing them; you have to touch them, feel them, make them your own. And it makes perfect sense, of course, because stories don’t just exist to be told; they must be lived. Carrer de Sant Feliu 17, bajo 15b. Palma · www.paparkone.com
