orn in Germany and educated in Business Studies in Cape Town, Philipp Baier is a restless soul and entrepreneur that is deeply committed to the environment. A true daredevil. His life and professional career clearly prove this: he worked for various private companies when he finished his university studies, but ended up leaving his job to sail for fourteen months. Back in South Africa, in 2003 he founded travel company Heaven Must Wait Travel and, already in Mallorca, in 2005 he created event agency LifeXperiences. Based in Palma, the agency aims at creating extraordinary experiences in the form of private and business events, team-building trips and coaching sessions for professional teams. This lover of kitesurf and freeriding combines his vocation for entrepreneurship and his love for nature to impact the environment in a positive manner. In fact, with an eye on sustainable development and a responsible business approach in mind, together with his wife, the filmmaker Line Hadsbjerg, he created the Cleanwave foundation in Mallorca. The project, which gathers professionals from different sectors who are strongly committed to sustainability work, promotes plans that aim to conserve, protect and regenerate both the land and oceans. Baier and his team combine creativity, knowledge and their connection with the natural world to generate a social movement that counts on people and companies for a common good: sustainable development. In 2017, he created Cleanwave.org, an initiative that offers alternatives to single-use plastic bottles. At the end of 2020, Cleanwave became a Foundation and started its latest initiative: MedGardens.org, which aims to regenerate underwater forests in the Mediterranean sea. In addition to this, the foundation’s documentary, Out of Plastic, directed by Hadsbjerg herself, highlights the state of the Mediterranean sea and is food for thought on the consequences of the excessive use of plastic for the environment if we don’t take action. In the same line, the foundation offers a school programme to review the relationship that new generations have with plastic, nature and the sea. Philipp Baier is one of those people who combine passion and commitment to fight for a cause that is - or at least should be - that of all: to change once and for all the dynamics that harm our most precious treasure, nature. And the world needs, indeed, more people like him to exist for everyone’s and the planet’s sake. www.cleanwavefoundation.org
