uan Peralta and Mauricio Obarrio crossed the Atlantic Ocean from their native Argentina back in 2016, looking for a much needed breath of fresh air. Already in Europe, they settled in Mallorca where they co-created Contain Studio at the end of 2017. This is how their dream starts coming true. Contain is a lighting and furniture project committed to slow design: one-of-a-kind, durable and timeless creations made conscientiously. And, although Mauricio is responsible for the design and production of the pieces and Juan is responsible for communication and customer relations, Contain does not involve only their four hands. In the process of making each piece, a team of local artisans apply their knowledge and experience to achieve the desired result: manufacturing creative objects that are simple yet sophisticated and highly engineered. Tradition and technology do not have to be at odds: at Contain Studio, 3D printing and home automation are combined with noble and local materials such as wood or brass. This is how all creative possibilities are explored in depth, and unique pieces are obtained, since each one has its own irregularities and variations in colour and size, which is natural in the artisanal production process. Inspired by their travels, architecture, art, gastronomy and their own experiences, they supervise every detail until the piece is finished in their studio in Palma. From there, they export their productions to countries such as the United States, England and Mexico, among many other, where they are installed in hotels, restaurants and even private residences. In addition to the individual creations, Contain collaborates on numerous projects, including, recently, the lighting of the Chic and Basic hotel in Porto, the Katty Schiebeck studio, and the light in the rooms of the Hotel Riu in Madrid. It is quite remarkable that a personal project becomes such a successful reality as Contain Studio. Especially since their victory goes far beyond lighting. Juan and Mauricio’s dream come true gives off a flash, a halo of clarity that serves as an example for all those who aspire to live off their creative potential.
