LLANTAS QUE RUEDAN SOBRE LEYES TIRES THAT ROLL ON LAWS A mediados el siglo XVIII, los tejedores azuayos habían recurrido a una materia prima que no se conseguía en la provincia, el algodón peruano de Piura, para comenzar la exitosa producción de varas de tocuyos. A mediados del siglo XIX la Corporación Municipal Cuencana apostó por la paja toquilla, que como hemos visto crecía en la Costa y el Oriente, para confeccionar sombreros que luego se venderían en todo el mundo.
By the mid-eighteen century, weavers of Azuay were using raw materials not found in Azuay to begin the successful production of bolts of calico, using Peruvian cotton from Piura. At mid-19th century, Cuenca’s Municipal Corporation bet on paja toquilla, which grew in the Coastal and Amazon Regions, to manufacture hats that eventually would be sold all over the world. With these antecedents, it is not surprising that the principal role in the early years of the mid-twentieth century was played by another foreign raw material: rubber.
