TRIGLAV CYCLING, BOCCE, CHESTNUTS CANBERRA RIDE STORY

wearing their Slovenian Australian Jersey

3 June 21- Report by Martha Magajna

The main event kicked off on Sunday morning, with everyone meeting for breakfast on the Kingston foreshore (near the Canberra Glassworks) for a warmup coffee and breakfast.

The restaurant was open for lunch and dinner at normal times. People came in increasing numbers, but they followed the rules carefully. They measured their temperature, recorded their data, and carefully adhered to the prescribed distance and the prescribed number at the tables in the dining room. Families with children chose a place outside on the terrace where children could play. The bowling committee always makes sure that all bocce alleys are clean and tidy and the premises are disinfected before we start bowling. Winter has begun, but the bocce players are still bravely

resisting the cold. In the past, we went on a bus trip to Goulburn to pick ripe chestnuts, but now we are quite happy if we buy these delicious forest fruits in the supermarket and our friend Jože Pahor bakes them in a homemade oven at the bowling courts. And everybody was happy! Thank You, Jože !

Our walkers and runners had a nice 5-7km walk around the central loop also known as the 'bridge to bridge walk', commencing from Kingston and crossing the Kings Ave bridge to Commonwealth Park to then come back around through the international flags display and the official "Australians of The Year Walk" whilst taking in the Parliamentary Triangle, home to many of the city's national attractions. The cyclists rode along the lake's edge completing all 3 loops and 30km of cycling. Riding through Jerrabomberra Wetlands

Nature Reserve and Duntroon, around to Government House via Commonwealth Park and then back to Kingston with a tyre change pit stop in between. It was great to see so many people out and about across the weekend embracing the first event held in Canberra - ACT. Thank you to everyone who came and participated including Mr Andrej Kralj, from the Slovenian Embassy and John and Christine Falez for leading the ride. The events enjoyed by all are a great way to get out, be active, get healthy, catch up and make new friends. Thank you again and looking forward to the next event.
