Unlikely friends

eresinha de Jesus' is a popular song that tells the tale of a girl who finds love. But what would this piece of music sound like in a version between folk and rock? That is what the C'azoada group and artist Lee Jones set out to discover and the resulting piece of music was… atypical. The new shape given to this, and other songs comes about as the result of a challenge set by the Town Hall of Santa Cruz to local artists through the (a)typical initiative. This is a small fusion project combining the artistic manifestations which are more traditional and better reflect the identity of the area with more contemporary projects. The name points to tradition, to what is typical, but also seeks to portray the state in which the world finds itself: (a)typical. It is an initiative that also seeks
to support cultural players at a time when there is much uncertainty in the sector. The launch of the project resulted in the creation of a digital-audiovisual platform which has taken on the role of a portfolio of sorts for the cultural tissue of Santa Cruz. For Taciana Gouveia, one of the people heading the project, the artistic dialogue set by the (a)typical fosters the rediscovery of forgotten heritage sites in Santa Cruz while simultaneously making it possible for the audience to enjoy music in a new way. This first edition focused on six pieces of work, recorded in the several parishes of the municipality. eresinha de Jesus” é uma canção popular que conta a história de uma menina que encontra o seu amor. Mas como soaria esta música numa versão entre o folk e o rock? Foi isso que o grupo C’azoada e o artista Lee Jones propuseram e o resultado foi uma música... atípica. A nova roupagem desta e de outras músicas surge de um desafio lançado pela Câmara Municipal de Santa Cruz aos artistas locais, através da iniciativa (a)típico. Trata-se de um projeto de fusão que une as manifestações artísticas mais tradicionais e identitárias do concelho a projetos contemporâneos. O nome remete para o tradicional, para o típico, mas procura também caracterizar o estado em que o mundo se encontra: (a)típico. É uma iniciativa que pretende também apoiar os atores culturais, numa altura de grande indefinição para o sector.
