For its next production, MAD (Meeching Amateur Dramatics), will be taking you back to the Regency Period (1790 to 1820), a colourful and turbulent time in our history. The era of King George III and his frequent fits of insanity, and his son, the Prince Regent, who built the Royal Pavilion at Brighton. This was also a time when drinking, debauchery and gambling were rife in England. Haggard tells the story of Squire Amos Haggard, perennially hard up, lecherous, dishonest and drunk, conceived and brought to life by Eric Chappell of Rising Damp fame. Haggard is assisted in his adventures by Nathanial Grunge, a menial who resents his lowly position. This very funny comedy is something of an undisciplined romp and, with its parallel to Blackadder III, moves along at a fast and hysterical pace. MAD will be staging this production at Meeching Hall, Fort Road, Newhaven, on three consecutive evenings, Thursday 26th to Saturday 28th March at 7.45pm.
