he São Paulo Yacht Club (SPYC), also known as the “English Sailing Club”, is a small piece of Paradise in the middle of the stone jungle of the city of São Paulo. It is located on the banks of the Guarapiranga Dam, in Interlagos, less than 20 kilometres from the city center. It is a place for the whole family to enjoy. It has a complete infrastructure, with a beautiful main building, a restaurant, an English Pub, a large grassy area, playground, swimming pool, sports court and the most beautiful sunset views in São Paulo! It is also an excellent option for events, such as weddings and company parties.
Sailing The club has a complete infrastructure for sailing, including its own school (SPYC Sailaway Sailing School), as well as boats, windsurf and stand-up paddle boards for rent. The club also organises periodic clinics, workshops and training lanes to perfect sailing techniques. The Internal Championship is one of the most competitive and fun competitions in the Guarapiranga. There are 13 regattas throughout the year with a final award at the Season’s Closing Dinner. The trophies honor traditional SPYC families and are on display at the club’s pub. Even in this difficult period, SPYC continued with the tradition of organizing the Opening Regatta of the São Paulo Sailing season. The 2021 event was mostly virtual (registration, donations and awards) and was a great success, with the participation of almost 140 boats and 274 athletes (in addi-

tion to about 30 non-registered boats). Through the Instituto Devolver, 650 kilograms of non-perishable food items were collected for donation and the Associação Nossa Guarapiranga (ANG) offered a virtual lecture to all members of the community. Cultura Inglesa, our partner for many years, offered two scholarships that were awarded to two of our employees.

Pandemic During these pandemic times, SPYC offered members and their families a safe haven, with tables spread out in the open, with social distancing and a restaurant operating only on a take-away system. The so-called “SPYC-Office” was also implemented during the week, offering a space where members could take advantage of quality internet and restaurant services to make their home office with all the tranquility that the club offers, along with inspiring views.
Carajás Scout Group After a long renovation, the new headquarters of the Carajás Scout Group was completed in 2020. Now the club has all the joy of the Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, Seniors and Rovers and the two packs of cubs. Meetings take place, following all safety measures, on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
