Biology: this includes learning about all the living things in our world like humans, animals, bacteria, fungi and plants. Chemistry: this includes learning about the properties, composition and structure of substances and how they can change. Physics: this includes learning about matter and energy and how they interact with each other. Earth and Space: this includes learning about and investigating our Planet Earth and the Universe.

Is learning this subject in CPS anything like what I did in Primary School? In Primary school you learned about living things, energy and forces, materials and about care for the environment. You also explored the world around you and learned to work like a scientist. In Junior Cycle Science you will continue to use and develop these skills. How will this subject be useful to me? This subject is extremely useful to anyone that wants to know about how the world works. The 4 different Scientific Worlds cover all types of topics such as how the body works, evolution, the atom, acids and bases, how the universe started, the big bang and density and why things float. Assessment? Assessment in Science will consist of regular written tests, presentations, projects and Classroom Based Assessments (CBA’s). This way all types of learners are catered for to reach their maximum potential. At the end of 3rd Year students will sit a two-hour Science Exam.
