History What will I learn in this subject? You will learn about many different parts of world history including Irish History. We will delve into the life of the ancient Romans, discover the world with explorers like Columbus and Diaz, take a look back in time to research and reflect on WW2 battles and review and contemplate the impact the 1916 Rising and The Northern Ireland Troubles has had on our lives today. More Topics include: Revolutions, Reformation, Archaeology, Plantations…etc. How will I learn in this subject? Use of Microsoft One Note for Notes and Exercises, Engaging Videos, Virtual Tours, Physical Tours, Role Play Learning, Mind Maps, Guided Learning Discovery Questions, Self-Research, Self and Peer Assessing, Model Making are just some of the ways you will learn about History in CP Setanta Is learning this subject in CPS anything like what I did in Primary School? Yes, you would have studied some topics like Irish history and the war briefly in Primary School and touched on certain questions that would be phrased like questions you would be asked in Junior Cycle. You may have done project work also that would be like Classroom Based Assessment Projects that you do on a historical title of your choice in 2nd Year and 3rd Year. This will be worth 10% of your Junior Cycle History. How will this subject be useful to me? Theodore Roosevelt said, “The more you know about the past the better prepared you are for the future.” History allows you to delve into the past of our ancestors to discover why society is the way it is today. History is a useful subject as it develops our skills in research, reflection and knowledge. Assessment? For Junior Cycle students will complete two classroom based assessments and at the end of 3rd Year they will sit a Junior Cycle Exam in History which is two hours long.
