To contribute to a balanced and appropriate general education, leading to the personal and social development of students through a study of business and enterprise. To encourage initiative and self-reliance in each student. To develop a clear understanding of the role of enterprise, to encourage the development of appropriate enterprise learning skills, and to generate in students positive and ethical attitude to enterprise in personal, business and public life. To develop a critical understanding of the overall environment in which business functions. To help prepare students for participation in a changing business environment for adult and working life and also as a basis for further education.

How will I learn in this subject? Students will learn through group work/project-based work, ICT skills, using spreadsheets, visuals, graphics, video clips and exam questions along with many more. Is learning this subject in CPS anything like what I did in Primary School? The work you did in English will be a good help to you in letter and report writing. Your mathematic skills will help when you are calculating wages, exchange rates, interest on savings and the cost of loans. Your knowledge of Ireland and the European Union will also be of use to you in Business Studies. How will this subject be useful to me? Everyday life skills are learnt in this diverse subject including budgeting, saving and borrowing, money management, insurance, wages, consumer rights and the world of work. Assessment? For your Junior Cycle you will complete two Classroom Based Assessments (CBA’s) and a terminal written exam at the end of 3rd Year. Throughout the three years students will prepare for this and monitor their progress through semester exams, exam paper questions, project based exams, class discussions…etc. 24
