Gaeilge What is this subject all about at Senior Cycle? Leaving Certificate Irish builds upon the language developed during Junior Cycle. All four language skills are further developed in order to enable the learner to take an active part in the bilingual society in which we live in today in Ireland. Will learning this subject at Senior Cycle be different to what I studied at Junior Cycle? Some aspects are the same but we look at things in more detail and build on your skills. You will study literature, listening work, language composition and oral work. The oral exam is worth 40% of your overall mark.

You are willing to use the language in the classroom and outside the classroom. You ask questions and put in your best effort. You are willing to work independently at times to further develop your skills such as watching T.V. and films as Gaeilge.
This subject will be useful for a career in… Education, Translation, Government Jobs, Media, EU Work and Tourism to name but a few. Assessment? The Leaving Certificate exam is comprised of an Oral – 40%, Listening – 10% and Two written papers - 50%.
