Economics What is this subject all about at Senior Cycle? This subject is about how the economy works. Students will learn about how individual firms, consumers, business sectors and the government interact in the market place. Economics looks at how government policies impact the demand and the supply of goods and services and this is represented graphically, for example, the current government policy to wear masks in shops has increased the demand for masks. The course also looks at international trade, sustainable development goals, globalisation, economic trade cycles and the labour market. Do I have to have studied this subject at Junior Cycle in order to do it at Senior Cycle? No, you do not have to have any previous knowledge of Economics to take it up for Senior Cycle. However, having studied Junior Cycle Business Studies would give you an advantage. Will learning this subject at Senior Cycle be different to what I studied at Junior Cycle? Economics is studied as part of Business Studies at Junior Cycle level.
