Art What is this subject all about at Senior Cycle? Leaving Certificate Art is taught in a social, historical and cultural context. All students at both Ordinary and Higher Level follow a common course. Practical work includes Life Sketching, Still life, Imaginative Composition, Design and Craftwork. Students spend at least one period per week studying the History of Art. The History of Art exam counts for 38% of the overall Art examination paper.Do I have to have studied this subject at Junior Cycle in order to do it at Senior Cycle? The short answer is no. If you have a real interest in art, with a big focus on drawing, willingness to learn new skills and be prepared to study and write essays on the History of Art you are a good candidate. You do not have to have studied Art at Junior Cycle. Will learning this subject at Senior Cycle be different to what I studied at Junior Cycle? Recent changes to both the Junior and Senior Cycle Art courses has resulted in both cycles being more closely aligned to each other. The subject at Senior cycle builds on previous learning in Junior Cycle, however students will cover the History and Appreciation of Art in much greater detail at Senior Cycle level.
