Geography What is this subject all about at Senior Cycle? A variety of skills are learned throughout our Senior Cycle Geography syllabus. These are Problem solving, Numeracy and Literacy skills, Analytical skills, Social and Environmental Awareness, Team-Work, Computer Literacy, Spatial Awareness, Self-Management and Map Skills. Topics will include: The Structure of the Earth, Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Rocks, Population, Urbanisation, Maps, Economic activities, Rivers, Coasts, Weather, Climate change and Regional Geography. Students will also complete a Geographical Investigation Field Study which is worth 20% of the Leaving Certificate exam and choose from electives including topics on differences in population dynamics around the world. There is also an option to study Geo-ecology focusing on biomes and climates around the world investigating the desert climate. Will learning this subject at Senior Cycle be different to what I studied at Junior Cycle? It will be quite similar but topics will be in more detail. Answers will require more detailed FEEDs (Feature, Example, Explanation and Diagram). You will also be required to write more detailed essay style answers and case studies.
