first heard about the "Faces of" concept in 2016 from a publisher out of Omaha, Nebraska. They had created a magazine that helps promote local business by featuring a "Face" of a specific business type (ex: "Face Of Architecture").

This publisher found that the publication was able to connect community members with local Omaha businesses. From there, I talked to other publishers and wanted to see how the publication was received in their markets. Overall, we found that the feedback was really great in those regions too.

Of course, I love and will champion the idea of promoting community. That's why, in 2021, we decided to bring this concept to the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo and Bismarck-Mandan communities. It was such a hit, that we brought it to Sioux Falls this year as well as Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo for a second time.

Bismarck-Mandan, now is your turn for a second act. We hope you enjoy this publication and take the opportunity to get to know even more of the people behind your thriving business community.

In 11 years, we have been able to create over 500 magazines, all of which are solely based in telling positive community stories! This is another piece to that puzzle and I truly believe you will enjoy reading about your friends and neighbors in the ensuing pages.

This publication is considered a "native advertising piece" in the publishing industry. This means

that each "Face of" is a sponsored page and paid for by that advertiser. This is not a "Best of" publication—it is simply a way for our community to see some of the "Faces" of respective businesses. In turn, we are connecting our readers to businesses they may not even be aware of.

By making this a sponsored magazine we were able to produce the publication at a high quality and provide 30,000 copies free to the public. Our sales and editorial teams tried to ensure that we reached out to credible "Faces" of the categories we chose. Mandan native Deno Muller understands the importance of building strong relationships with everyone he works with. Starting at Eide Ford as a sales consultant in 1993, Deno is now a sales manager at Mandan’s newest dealership, Eide Ford Mandan.

isa ran a childcare business out of her home for 19 years so she could be there day and night to raise two boys. After her kids were grown up, she started to work as a CNA in the cardiac unit at Sanford, where she has been employed for the past 15 years. In 2014, Lisa came to work at SCHEELS part-time and soon decided to make a career out of it. She has worked as a specialty shop manager for youth outerwear and women’s outerwear and is currently the manager for women’s swimwear and women’s sportswear.

Family is very important to Lisa and one of the many reasons she enjoys working at SCHEELS; they are truly a second family to her. She enjoys the great team she is surrounded with, who take pride in better serving the community and making sure every customer feels welcomed and taken care of.

Lisa continues to work part-time as a CNA in the Cardiac Unit at Sanford, along with her full-time position at SCHEELS, because of her pride in serving people in her beloved community. Furry Friends Rockin’ Rescue (FFRR) is a volunteer-run animal rescue serving the animals of the BismarckMandan area with the help of generous donors and nearly 200 volunteers. Founded in 2015 with the goal of reducing the amount of euthanizations, FFRR's primary focus is helping impounded animals throughout the Western, ND area. They also assist in owner surrenders and other animals found in dangerous situations. FFRR has rescued and rehomed over 14,200 animals to date.

In addition to adopting and fostering animals, FFRR educates the community about the importance of spaying and neutering

animals. They also fundraise, microchip, transport animals to the vet and other rescues, host shot clinics and food drives, assist with spay/neuter clinics, trap/neuter/return animals and more! FFRR is the leading organization in the area to assist the Abused Adult Resource Center by helping with the animals of survivors who are on the run.

FFRR is looking for a veterinarian to call their own, but in the meantime, they elicit the help of every vet they can find within a 50-mile radius. With vet bills averaging around $20,000 per month, FFRR is always grateful for community donations.

“Bismarck-Mandan is so generous to our rescue work. If it wasn’t for the generous people donating money, food, kennels, towels, sheets, rags, toys, litter, dish soap/bleach and other cleaning supplies, we wouldn’t be able to do this. Our community gets very involved and we so appreciate the people that stand behind us,” FFRR Founder Julie Schirado said.

While their current location can be found in Bismarck, they are excited to expand into Mandan in the near future, a feat that will allow them to rescue more animals, continue to be leaders in local spay/neuter education and build their very own onsite veterinarian clinic.

Lynnes Welding Training (LWT) is an accredited career school that was established in Bismarck, ND in 2010. Their students have the option of signing up for a 40-hour welding course or a 12-week combination welding course. The Jerome family has been in business for 95 years.
