Fly to Ushuaia and go on a catamaran cruise along the Beagle Channel before embarking our ship. Glide along Chile’s Glacier Alley and navigate into Francisco Coloane Marine Park. DAYS 11–13 I PUNTA ARENAS/MAGDALENA ISLAND/KARUKINKA NATURAL PARK Upon arrival in Punta Arenas, visit several museums or go for a hike. Navigate the Strait of Magellan en route to Magdalena Island, home to a colony of some 100,000 Magellanic penguins. Explore Karukinka Natural Park on beach walks and forest hikes. Meals: 3B, 3L, 3D DAYS 14–19 I CAPE HORN/STATEN ISLAND, ARGENTINA/USHUAIA/BUENOS AIRES/U.S. Navigate around Cape Horn and explore the forests and fjords of Staten Island, home to the San Juan de Salvamento “lighthouse at the end of the world.” Disembark in Ushuaia and take a charter flight to Buenos Aires to connect with your overnight flight home. Among more than 25 assignments for National Geographic, he lived in a village in Papua New Guinea and spent a week under the Arctic ice in a nuclear attack submarine. Jay has also authored a best-selling photography guide.
