Junior Cycle SUBJECT:
Mathematics What will I learn in this subject? How to analyse an array of problems using procedures and methods that are beneficial not only in solving textbook questions, but in dissecting real world issues also. How will I learn in this subject? Topics in this subject will be linked to Primary School content and be built upon all the way up to Junior Cycle Level. Links will be made between individual topics and backed up with a variety of learning aids to aid every style of learner. Is learning this subject in CPS anything like what I did in Primary School? If you were to compare a Junior Cycle Higher Level Paper to a 6th Class test, you would notice a big change in difficulty. However, the three years you spend engaging with the Junior Cycle course in CP Setanta will more than prepare you for whatever the Junior Cycle holds. The content you were taught in Primary School will be the first stepping stone on this path. New skills such as completing a Classroom Based Assessment, working on OneNote and Teams, and working with surveys on Forms, will be added to your skillset, and therefore help you take your Mathematical skills to the next level. How will this subject be useful to me? As the world becomes more and more technologically advanced, your ability to work well with numbers is as important as ever. As well as opening up great job opportunities later down the line, being competent at Maths will also help your decision making, resilience, memory, and strategic skills on a day-to-day level.
Assessment? Throughout the three years in the Junior Cycle, students will do a mixture of the typical end of semester tests, project work, and Classroom Based Assessments (CBA’s). The arrangement of these aims to give a true reflection of the Mathematical and creative talents the students have. At the end of 3rd Year students will sit a two-hour paper for Junior Cycle Maths, at either Higher or Ordinary Level.
