You will be encouraged to experiment and explore a variety of new crafts, such as print, poster and lettering amongst others. You will learn to work in 3D, for example, in construction, sculpture and clay work. You will also learn about the design process and how to use it to plan out and create new artworks along with learning to make links between your artwork and that of other artists, craft workers and designers from different cultures and from different historical periods. Develop your observational skills through drawing, painting and mixed media. Use a variety of materials and resources (including ICT) to explore the different ways in which they can be used to research and create artworks. Learn how to plan, manage and complete your art works to a high standard. Have fun developing and creating artwork in a relaxed but highly productive art class. Try your best at homework and class assignments.

Is learning this subject in CPS anything like what I did in Primary School? You have already been expressing your creative abilities through drawing, painting, colour work, print, clay construction, fabric and fibre in primary school. You will continue to build on these skills and you will also learn to use other tools, materials and special equipment to create images and objects. How will this subject be useful to me? Many of the skills you learn while studying Visual Art are very useful outside of school and in whatever job you choose to do in the future. Being able to think creatively is a key skill in art and is very valuable in any career you might consider. Assessment? Visual Art will be assessed by completion of Classroom Based Assessments (CBA’s) in 2nd Year and again in 3rd Year. This work is project based and spans 2nd and 3rd Year. There is currently no terminal exam at the end of 3rd Year in Visual Art. 22
